Chapter 5.

"We all know what season we are in and this time things could get a lot worse. The Sect have dictated that soon earth will face her most Apocalyptic times so they are raising a barrier large enough to accommodate as many citizens as possible," Ceasar explained.

"Have you figured out why they asked us to raise this structure?" Pedro asked.

"Yes," Ceasar responded. "They are making it to recruit armies to increase our arm forces. The authorities are preparing a mechanical method of awakening the common people,"

"Is that safe?" Dawson asked.

"No it's not. Anyone who is awakened mechanically will live only six months after the awakening process which is why we were instructed not to force anybody. The authorities have instructed that we should perform the experiment on only willing candidates so that when they face the consequences, it won't be on our hands,"

"That is a cruel craft," Connor said with a frown on his face. "Just imagine how many lives will fall victim to this. This is murder,"

"No it's not. We are not responsible for any death, if they die, they will die as a result of their obsession for power," Ceasar replied.

"How many places will the selection take place?" Pedro asked.

"This structure is being raised almost everywhere there is life, and it will serve the same purpose. Those who choose to remain human will be considered pure and will be secured inside the large barrier until the battle is over. That is all I know for now,"

Benjamin left the scene shocked by all he had heard. No one was safe. The level of injustice was too great and If the plan of the authorities proceeds the entire race of humans will be erased because everyone wanted to be given the chance to amount to something more. Everyone wanted to be awakened.

'l have to stop this, I can't let this happen. If it does my mother will also be affected,' Benjamin thought to himself.

That evening, Benjamin returned to the main University campus, he could not return home since his mother and the cops had found out that his body had been invaded by a host system and they would be searching for him.

While treading the school grounds his eyes came In contact with Flynn Davies who was the new student introduced earlier in class. He watched Flynn walk out of a school office with a briefcase in his hand. Seeing him still present in school that evening Benjamin became suspicious about his movement. From the first time Benjamin laid eyes on Flynn he had perceived that something about him wasn't right. He never knew if it was the fact he was more open, fearless or because of his wealthy looks.

Apart from his difference, the fact he was introduced to the class by Dawson Sloan, was enough reason to be suspicious. Benjamin thought that Flynn could have a role to play, perhaps he was brought to spy the conversations going on within the students.

Curious to know what he was up to Benjamin followed Flynn down to an Estate some meters away from the boys hostel. There were many stunning houses inside the estate. The environment was very beautiful, the grounds were tiled leaving some parts with low carpet grasses and others sides decorated with lush green flowers.

After admiring the place for a few seconds Benjamin watched Flynn approach one of the finest bungalows. When Flynn went in, Benjamin also snuck inside, swiftly making his way behind one of the chairs.

It was a large and well furnished house. There were three long banana shaped sofa chairs in the sitting room and directly opposite one of the chairs was a large screen television. A glass table was at the center of the sitting room and many other equipment to aid comfort were also present.

Benjamin watched Flynn place the briefcase on the chair and just then his cell phone began to ring.

"Hello," Flynn said as soon as he answered the call.

"Hello Son, how is everything going in college?" Flynn's father said over the phone.

"Everything's fine," Flynn responded.

"I hope there are no issues within your peers?"

"No, there isn't," Flynn replied, gently sitting on the sofa chair he placed his briefcase on earlier. "I just noticed some injustices but apart from that every other thing is under control,"

"Some injustice," His father repeated in uncertainty. "I hope you didn't get into a fight with anyone, because if the authorities find out that you have a fraction they will send you away,"

"I understand. I promised not to reveal to anyone that I've been awakened and I look forward to keeping my promise," Flynn said and seeing the assurance his father calmed down.

"Even as you mingle with them, just know that you are different. Don't forget what your assignment is. Do you understand?"

"Yes father,"

Benjamin, who overheard just Flynn's part of the conversation, pulled himself behind the chair as he furrowed his face.

'He is one of them,' Benjamin thought to himself. He knew from the first time he set his eyes on Flynn that he wasn't normal. Flynn's boldness and make up was unlikely. Benjamin suspected that if Flynn has a fraction then he must be part of the conspiracy in the school, perhaps his assignment was to spy the affairs in-between the students and considering these facts Flynn was a threat who had to be stopped.

Benjamin watched Flynn from behind the chair as he thought of all possible ways to attack. He had never gotten into a fight with the fractioned so if he was going to tame Flynn he had to at least know his specialty.

"Vortex, I need your help," Benjamin whispered.

[I can tell what you are thinking but it's insane. I don't think you stand a chance against Flynn. You are not ready to face his makeup]

"What is that supposed to mean? What is his fraction?" Benjamin asked in a whisper.

[Hold on. Taking Hypothesis of subjects... Subject Hypothesis completed]

"So what did you find out?" Benjamin asked.

[I haven't seen anything like him before. He is a Frac. hybrid]

"What is a Frac. hybrid?"

[It means that he is a single entity with two fractions; Psychic and Dauntless]

"What! is that even possible?" Benjamin whispered curiously, still spying on Flynn.

[The best thing to do is leave]

"No," Benjamin countered those words. "I have already come this far and I am not leaving without finding out what he is hiding," He said then moved out from behind the chair.
