Chapter 10: Levelling Up
Aldrin considered getting the grandmaster with him to make a move but he knew that would put him in a negotiation disadvantage later on, moreover there was also the mission from his system, he wasn’t sure if it would count as a success or failure if he got someone else to do it for him.
He pulled up his system interface and began to go through it again trying to see if he could find something useful, glancing through it for the second time he noticed something he hadn’t noticed before now, next to his title was a small inverted triangle.
He clicked on the arrow only for a pop-up to appear.
[Basic Title;
Trash: Allows user to diminish his aura to the point where he is actively being ignored by everyone, placing him in a state of psychological invisibility. This state becomes invalid when use makes any drastic action.
Duration: 1hr
Cool-down: 45mins]
Reading through this Aldrin was stunned and didn’t know if he should laugh or cry.
“So being trash actually has such a use.” He mumbled to himself
“Amara you can take a break now.” He said to the lady beside him and almost immediately she slumped down in exhaustion.
He dipped his hands into his robes to check the remaining storage pouches he had on himself, he nodded and activated his title, he didn’t feel any different, he glanced at himself and could still see himself pretty normally, to confirm if it was working he stood in front of Amara but the young lady barely noticed him as she just glanced past his shoulder like he wasn’t even there.
He crouched before her and waved his hand but she didn’t react in the least, seeing this Aldrin nodded with a smile before turning around and dashing towards the fortress.
Getting closer to the battleground he could hear sounds of explosions and battle cries, for a moment he wondered if one could actually consider this a battlefield as it looked more like a slaughterhouse instead as his men kept mowing down the orcs like a giant meat grinder, with the major advantage being the blood dragon which had a prowess almost equal to a grandmaster.
Aldrin had a flash thought of what the resulting effect would be if majority of the army was made up of masters and grandmasters instead of just practitioners and amateurs, the thought alone made him shudder.
He sped past them and soon approached the gates of the fortress, but with the tide of orcs swarming out, entry was quite a daunting task.
By the time he would reach the teleportation hall according to the path he had seen through their surveillance a little over thirty minutes had passed, standing by the entrance he watched as flash after flash of light appeared within the hall with each flash delivering about a hundred orcs each.
Dipping his hand into one of the storage pouches he fished out a sealed scroll.
[Grade 4 Scroll; Raging Inferno: Summons an inferno in a 150*150 yards]
His system announced the type of scroll he held, one of the functions he had come to like about the system, as long as it was an artefact it would appraise it and give him its full details.
Activating his bracelets he injected the stored zen into the scroll to unseal it before tossing it into the hall.
A second later the scroll unfurled midair and a threefold array spanning about 150yards appeared at the top of the hall absorbing world energy frantically, the orcs noticed this and looked upwards an expression of surprise appearing on their features, this delay allowed another batch of orc to appear within the hall before the first batch left to join the fray outside but as soon as they appeared they also noticed the massive amounts of world energy accumulating at the top of the hall, before any one of them could react a pillar of flames descended upon them.
The towering flames burnt with an intensity that made Aldrin take several steps backwards as hot wind blew over him, for ten seconds the flames continued burning, only after the tenth second did the array up in the air vanish alongside the fire, leaving behind scorched corpses and a dilapidated hall.
Almost immediately the mechanical voice of the system began to announce into his ears while small popups appeared in his line of vision.

The notification for the amount of orcs he killed resounded about two hundred times.

“I leveled up?” Aldrin found this pretty hard to believe, most zen practitioners ascended their grades mostly by practice and meditation, zen warriors did same by training in treacherous conditions and by using of specific potions, never had he heard of a person who was capable of increasing their power by killing others.
He moved his arms slowly, he could feel an unnatural amount of strength coursing within him, his body felt lighter as well. Without hesitation he pulled up his stat window.

Indeed he was now level 8, although that was pretty hard to quantify using normal standards it was obvious that his strength has increased, by more than ten times, before now his stats was pretty average, with ten being the maximum a regular human could have in any of the stats he was well above average and pretty close to peak condition but now he totally shattered the barriers, currently his stats was pretty much close to an Amateur ranked zen warrior except for the fact that he lacked zen itself.
While he was still ecstatic over his newfound strength quite a lot of orc had begun retreating into the fortress due to the commotion he caused and this time he was noticed.
Without wasting any time he fished out a pair of futuristic guns from his robes, he had specifically requested these for his own use, unlike his sword which was a grade 3 artefact the guns were just at the peak of grade two but they were long range weapons which allowed him to take care of his targets before they got too close, after all a power at the peak of the practitioner grade was still a force to be reckoned with in small scale combat, the best part of it was that it recharged itself automatically by absorbing ambient energy from the surrounding and converting it into zen based attacks.
Fishing the weapon Aldrin began to fire at the orcs as they approached, his targets majorly their faces, he then began to retreat into the rundown teleportation hall hoping to use the small entrance to his advantage.
But he sorely underestimated the numbers of the orcs, occasionally the system notification symbolizing the death of an orc would ring out but there was so many of them and just one of him.
[You have reached level 9, Strength +10, Agility +10, Stamina +10, Vitality +10, Spirituality +100, Free Points +10]
After the fifth death, he felt another wave of energy wash over him as he heard a level up notification
In no time they reached the entrance.
“Summon fire spirit.” Aldrin suddenly yelled and a blazing red circuit appeared on the ground in front of him and a creature slowly emerged from the circuit.
It had a height of 0.2m, a length of 1.5m, its scale shimmers like molten gold each one etched with intricate patterns and runes that seem to dance when touched by light, its sleek body is sinuous and almost serpentine with two pairs of feet that barely raises its belly above the earth with each limb ending in claws, each talon sharp enough to pierce through stone. Its eyes were the colour of burning coals and with it blinks sparks fly leaving a trail of miniature flames in the air. Staring at it Aldrin could only mutter one word.
“Beautiful”

Chapter 1: Council Meeting…In the beginning there was only you,So you decided to go on to the end,Till there was nothing left of you.In the beginning I was alone,So I went on to the end, Till there was only I left,Who am I? Who are you, We are Zen,The beginning,And the end.…In a hall about fifty meters in length and breadth were two youngsters moving about rapidly, one of them had lightning flickering around his form with each tensing of his muscles lightning cackled and each fist he threw was accompanied by electricity but the other person looked quite ordinary and very unimposing and despite the difference in appearance none of the former’s attack was able to land as the ordinary looking young man seemed to effortlessly evade and parry each attack. After several exchanges both came to a halt with the empowered young man barely out of breath while the ordinary one was dripping with sweat and totally out of breath, he had his hand on his knees with his dark hair matted a
Chapter 2: AssassinationEverybody has a zen core within themselves, it supplies energy for the body to run and keep function, its importance is no less than that of the heart and its location was just beneath the navel which was the centre of the body.Like arteries and veins run from the heart to every part of the body, energy pathways sometimes known as zen pathways run from the core to every part of the body, the pathways passes through organs, muscles and tissues, through veins and arteries constantly supplying the zen that one either absorbs from the surroundings or that one digests from meals.Just like a man cannot survive without his heart one can’t survive without their zen core as its destruction would lead to inevitable death, there are weak cores and strong core but there has never been a recorded case of someone born without a core, Aldrin is the first case or perhaps the first recorded case.Aldrin took in a deep breath and closed the book he was reading, he looked out
Chapter 3: AwakeningAldrin coughed severally, normally his robes were enhanced with a circuit array allowing him to tank a considerable amount of impact without taking damage, but having fought for about five minutes the protection was already wearing out and with a sword piercing through the robes many of the circuits were damaged reducing the protection the robes offered by a large amount allowing the fire dragon deal more than seventy percent it’s total damage.“How?” Aldrin managed to growl as he wiped out the blood dripping from the corner of his lips while trying to stand up, although Fabien wasn’t the best fighter there was it wasn’t to the point of making such blunder, the panicking expressions that was on Fabien’s face throughout the fight was suddenly nowhere to be found instead was a ridiculing and disdainful sneer, an expression which he wouldn’t find surprising if only he saw it on anyone else that wasn’t his brother.“They say geniuses are often so stupid and I must say
Chapter 4: Quest of AcknowledgementAldrin’s eyes opened slowly and light flooded into them causing him to close them rapidly with a light wince.“The young master has awakened, relay this to the lord.” A female voice suddenly called out and a figure dashed out of the room closing the door behind as she left, Aldrin slowly sat up and surveyed the room he was in and quickly recognized it to be his room. Not far from the bed was a table that was tidy and yet messy at the same time as a plethora of reading and writing materials were displayed across, aside from that table there wasn’t anything noteworthy of in the room, everything else was exquisite and yet simple.“How is your health sir?” A small lady approached Aldrin and tried taking his hand to feel his pulse but suddenly Aldrin stretched his hand and gripped her throat tightly threatening to strangle her.The lady trashed wildly while sobbing and begging for mercy but no matter what she did Aldrin didn’t release his grip on her nec
Chapter 5: The SystemAldrin read through as he listened to the voice read into his head, basically it was just a summary of what he had read in the scroll his father gave him.“What are you exactly?” Aldrin asked feeling quite stupid as he didn’t know if there was someone controlling what he saw and heard or if they would even reply him.[I am the spirit system bound to you.] The voice replied him as the string of words before his eyes changed“Are you an ally?” he pressed further trying to glean as much information as he could and the most important of which he needed to know was to confirm if it was a symbiote or a parasite.[It is the job of the system to ensure its host grows stronger and more powerful so the system could be considered an ally to its host.] The mechanical voice replied in its monotone.Aldrin thought for a few moments, he didn’t know much yet but for some reason he felt that the so called system was akin to an artefact or a tool whose sole purpose was to empower
Chapter 6: Visit to the ancient gryphon clanThe carriage soon arrived in front of a pair of majestic gates of the Gryphon Clan. Two imposing stone pillars, adorned with intricate carvings of gryphons in various poses - soaring, battling, and guarding treasure - support a grand arch topped with a proud gryphon with its wings spread wide. The warm, golden stone, weathered by centuries, exudes the aura of great strength and deep heritage. Gryphon-shaped door knockers gaze out from either side, several glyphs adorn the pillars, and torch holders shaped like gryphon talons hold unlit torches. Flanking the gates, two imposing stone gryphon statues stand guard, complemented by armed, armored clan guards bearing the Gryphon Clan's insignia, standing before them Aldrin couldn’t help but feel as though the Gryphons would come alive the very moment there was a slight sign of danger which made the guards seem more like a decoration instead. As soon as the carriage reached the gates the formerly
