Chapter 9: Unexpected Development

The weapons and sealed scrolls were quickly distributed with enough to go round the three hundred-man team.

“Jon, you can begin the raid, the rest of you get in position, you uh- what you’re name?” Aldrin began giving instruction but when he turned to the lady beside him he realized that he had no idea what her name was.

“My name is Amara.” She replied and Aldrin nodded in acknowledgement

“You’ll stay with me here.” He added.

Just as the soldiers were about to disperse Aldrin quickly stopped them and passed a small device to each of the three team leaders, it was a small two piece device with one of them shaped like a comma while the other looked rounded but with a short handle.

“These are communication devices, I might need to relay messages to each of you.” He said as he explained the device to them and immediately after they dispersed each taking position.

Jon then led a team of fifty towards the gates of the fortress, each of them was armed with reinforced crossbows.

Soon they were just 200 yards, 150 yards, 100 yards…

The moment they entered the 100 yard zone the orcs on the walls began to growl and gesticulate wildly to threaten them but they proceeded and when they were just 50 yards away they all fired their crossbows just before the orcs began throwing down projectiles.

Even though the orcs wore armour against the crossbows reinforced with runes making their armours seem as though it wasn’t there, instantly a little over twenty orcs fell and this triggered every single one of them.

Before they could give a proper reaction Jon and his team unleashed another wave of fire, streaks of blue light flew from each crossbow taking down several of the orcs.

At this point the orcs were totally enraged, the gates burst open and several orcs came swarming out, the moment this happened Jon and his team turned tails and fled splitting into four different directions, over 500 orcs had swarmed after them seeing their targets split up the orcs did same before falling into an ambush, waves upon waves of blue light streaked mowing down the orcs before they even had the time to call for help from their companions and in about half an hour the army of over five hundred was decimated.

“This….” Amara was stunned with what she saw, the efficiency and ease with which the orcs were destroyed shocked her, she knew that with the tools they had killing the orcs would be easier but not even in her wildest dreams would she have imagined that they would clear an army of over 500 in less than thirty minutes, she was certain that even if she told a ghost the ghost wouldn’t believe her, seeing her shocked expression Aldrin just chuckled as this was only the beginning.

After clearing the first wave, Jon went back towards the fortress and lured away another set of orc and just like the previous ones they were ambushed and wiped out with relative ease.

The cycle went on like that for three more rounds allowing them to kill over two thousand five hundred orcs, excitedly Jon led his team back to lure some more orcs but what he saw shocked him to the bone as a seemingly endless swarm of orc suddenly attacked him the moment he appeared.

“Jon retreat instantly, Kane you and Sky should regroup up instantly there has been an unexpected development.” Aldrin instantly yelled into his communication device.

Staring at the holographic screen in front of him he couldn’t believe what he was seeing, their initial estimates of the orcs within the fortress was three thousand and after a few hours they were about to round them all up but suddenly a seemingly endless tide had burst out from within the building, he hadn’t even had enough time to warn Jon and his team.

“Can you check inside that building, there’s no way in Kalas’ name there should be so much Orcs in there naturally.” Aldrin said grimly to Amara who was now coated in beads of sweat, although she took several breaks it’s been a while she took her last break and was already getting exhausted, just as she was about to follow his instructions, Aldrin heard a beep in his mind followed by a string of words that appeared in his line of vision.

[B rank chain mission; destroy the teleportation circuit and take over the orc fortress.

Reward: Unknown

Punishments: Unknown.]

Aldrin read the system notification and nodded grimly.

“It’s just as I suspected but I never expected that they would have a teleportation circuit.” Aldrin muttered to himself

“Commander, I’ve found it, wait how do you know they have a teleportation circuit?” Amara was about to announce her findings excitedly but suddenly heard Aldrin talking about it as though he already knew beforehand leaving her speechless.

“It’s just a guess.” Aldrin said with a dry laugh.

“Focus back on Jon and the rest.” He ordered and the view in the screen moved to show the three teams converging while resisting the tide of Orcs, the large ballista fired shot after shot clearing a large amount of orcs with each attack but their number didn’t seem to be dwindling in the least.

“Activate the bloodline formation and conjure the blood dragon.” Aldrin ordered through his communication device and all three team leaders nodded in unison.

The ancient dragon clan’s bloodline formation was one of the top tier formation within the human empire, naturally activating their bloodline grants them power half a grade higher than their current grade and its duration was dependent on the bloodline purity and strength of the said clansman, its only drawback was the weakness that came after they used the ability with the severity and duration dependent on how long one used the bloodline power.

But the bloodline formation brings the bloodline power to a whole new level entirely as the boost gotten from activating their bloodline would increase depending on the number of the clansmen participating in the formation, with every hundred men allowing them to raise their combat power by half a grade, while also reducing the burden brought upon by using this power, this allowed everyone to use it for a longer period of time irrespective of their bloodline purity and also reduces the weakness felt after using it.

“Everyone retreat a hundred yards and activate the bloodline formation.” Kane yelled enhancing his voice with zen which allowed everyone to hear it clearly.

Instantly all the soldiers went all out firing whatever weapon they had at hand while releasing some of their most devastating zen and battle technique so as to put more gap between themselves and the encroaching orcs.

The moment they put a hundred meter gap between them, every single person began to rearrange themselves, moving in an orderly form like trained soldiers, they all took up a unique position and suddenly their aura began to flare, rising to unprecedented heights, the “Ancient” word appeared on the forehead of each of them with dragon tattoos appearing on their body but majorly covered by the clothing they wore with only parts of the dragon showing on their arms or neck.

With about three hundred men participating in the formation their combat power rose by about one and a half grade, allowing someone at the practitioner grade display power that surpassed the amateur grade while those on the amateur grade was able to display power that rivalled that of a master grade.

The orcs rapidly closed the distance between them reaching 50 yards in less than a few seconds.

“Activate the blood dragon.” Kane yelled again before instantly biting his thumb allowing a few drops of blood to flow, everyone else also did same but instead of the blood to drop to the earth according to the laws of gravity it floated up into the air forming a blood red two fold circuit array, the roar of a dragon resounded from within the array followed by a three hundred meter dark red dragon.

The moment the dragon appeared it dived into the army of orcs and began to massacre, the soldiers also began to unleash their full terror on their opponents.

Aldrin who was watching this from a safe distance away couldn’t help but shake his head, this would only be a temporary measure, one the soldiers were out of juice they would become royally fucked.

He racked his brain direly trying to find a way out, as long as he didn’t destroy the teleportation circuit, they would keep flooding out and it was only a matter of time before his entire team got wiped out if that happened.
