Chapter 12: The Forgotten Battlefield
Even before he read the description the moment he equipped the armour he could feel power welling up within him as well as a dense desire to slaughter, equipping the full set raised its grade by one which further enhanced it, the attached abilities for every equipment was even more fantastic, some of them were passive while others were active but all combined gave birth to a great killing machine, his stats were now reaching the three hundred threshold putting him on par with average Zen warriors and he knew deep down that he could fully tussle with even the stronger ones, he took notes of the new stats bonuses that the armour gave but weren’t reflected directly on his profile such as movement speed, attack speed, critical hit chance, damages and resistances.
From a simple thought he deduced that movement and attack speed were reliant on his agility, damage was most likely related to his strength as for critical hit chance he wasn’t so sure while resistance was what it was, he didn’t know how they were calculated and neither did he care, all he knew and cared about was that he was now faster and stronger.
Aldrin glanced at the marble floor and saw an unclear image of quite an intimidating reflection of himself encased in a scarlet-hued, battle-hardened shell. The helmet's angular design and crimson-tinted visor concealed his face, while the chest-plate's intricate engravings seem to blaze with fire. The pauldrons' curved shoulder guards jut outward, adorned with flared crimson plumes that appear to ruffle in the wind while the gauntlets' plated fingers ended in razor-sharp claws, and the greaves protect the legs with reinforced, crimson-etched steel. Finally, the boots' rugged soles and calf-high design complete the set, their crimson lacing and accents glowing like embers of fire.
Even though it was blurry he couldn’t help but admire his appearance, “Now all that’s left is a cape and a sword.” He muttered to himself, he was like a child finally having with new toys to play with. A single thought and the cape appeared on his back the sword in his hand.
The Nightwalker Cape was a majestic, midnight-black cloak crafted from velvety silk, its surface was so dark it seemed to absorb the light. A slender, crescent moon brooch fashioned from polished silver secures the cape at the neck, adding quite an air of elegance, it was the exact same height as himself with an extra 2 feet that trailed behind him with every motion.
[Grade 3 Cloak; Nightwalker Cape:
+10% movement speed in darkness/shadows, +10% evasion, +20 stealth effectiveness
Attached Skill:
“Shadow of Night”: Erases presence at night, when in the darkness or within a shadow.
“Moonlit Escape”: Teleport to any position within 20 yards, leaving a shadowy illusion (3/minute)
“Night's Shield”: Absorbs 30% of incoming damage for 5 seconds (1/minute)
Comment: In the shadow of the night the nightwalker shall thrive]
While it did look cool Aldrin was a little disappointed at its lacking capabilities as he compared it to the crimson armour set completely forgetting that one was a set of six while the other one was a single equipment.
“At least it’s great for escaping and possesses quite some defensive capabilities” He muttered to himself
“Now let’s explore this demiplane.” He added with a grin that was hidden behind the visor of his helmet.
Only after reaching the portal did he remember that he has yet to stabilize it, he was about to dip his hand into his tunic when he remembered he was now covered in armour, with a thought the chest-plate and gauntlet vanished and then entire armour set dropped to grade 2 with some of their attached skills vanishing and their bonuses reducing, he put his hand and fished out a storage pouch and began removing several devices from within it, it took a few minutes to set them up around the portal and after activating the fluctuating portal suddenly took a spiral shape, slowly spinning and pulsing rhythmically.
He summoned his chest-plate and gauntlets back and walked through the portal.
…
He had used teleportation circuits before allowing him to instantly teleport from one location to another and one common feeling that came along with it was vertigo but this it was extremely hard to explain how moving through the portal felt, he felt like spaghetti being swirled rapidly through a pot of soup, it felt like he was sinking downwards and yet he was being pulled forward but it all ended in a flash, it took all his will power to stabilize his system and restrain the urge to empty his gut.
After regaining his bearing he began to observe his surrounding but at that same moment the system’s mechanical voice echoed in his head as a pop-up appeared in his vision.
[You have discovered The Forgotten Battlefield]
[New Mission: Explore the forgotten battlefield and defeat the bone general
Rewards: Spatial Coordinates]
[Detected deathly energy; would slowly erode host’s spirituality]
[Nightwalker cape: “Shadow of Night” currently in effect]
Aldrin contemplated in thought, the name of this demiplane was the forgotten battlefield which symbolized that it was once a battlefield but the mission that came along with it made him smile in joy, accessing a demiplane totally relied on the portal that formed linking the main world to it but most times the portals were unstable and required stabilizing devices to use but even at that there was cooldown to using the portal lest it becomes unstable again and collapses upon itself making the demiplane forever lost, but aside that there was another method to access the demiplane which was by getting it’s spatial coordinates and creating a teleportation circuit that linked directly to the demiplane and while it costs more resources to use the teleportation circuit compared to the portal, it was totally stable without a chance of it collapsing.
With the spatial coordinates one can link the demiplane from everywhere without being restricted by the location of the portal but getting an accurate spatial coordinates was extremely hard almost close to impossible as the regular method for doing so was to place a reference position in the main world and try to measure it from the demiplane but the spatial flux from the portal and the ever changing void made it hard to get an accurate result and in such an endeavour accuracy was of utmost importance least one teleports to an unknown location within the vast expanse but right now he was going to get the spatial coordinates just by exploring the demiplane and he was confident that the coordinate would be accurate.
“At least now I don’t need to compete with the Gryphon clan in using the portal, I can just build a circuit that leads here directly.” He muttered to himself
“And I guess I have to hurry, I don’t want to know what the deathly energy would do once I run out of spirituality” He added with a chuckle and he took his first step forward and observed the world around him, the floor was ragged with stones and jagged rocks adorning the terrain, it seemed to be night-time but it wasn’t very dark as there was a crimson moon hanging in the sky giving off a low sinister light that barely illuminated the world below.
After walking a few meters he noticed that several weapons were littered around with none of them capable of surviving the brutal ravaging of time and alongside the weapons were bones and skeletons at various degrees of completion.
Several meters had passed but he hadn’t come across any encounter, all that was around were just decayed weapons and bones, suddenly he came to a halt and crouched to pick up a blood red crystal.
[Bloodstone: Formed from the crystallization of blood]
‘It really is bloodstone, I should have known this was a battlefield after all’ He thought to himself in wonder, bloodstone is a rare material that can only be gotten once a large amount of blood has been shed in a particular place making them common on large scale battlefields were war was being constantly fought, they are used in the preparation of certain potions and are quite popular amongst zen warriors, he tossed the bloodstone aside as he was pretty certain that there would at least be a small bloodstone mine somewhere around but he wasn’t interested in that yet, he just made note of it.
“Perhaps if I’m lucky I’ll find a soul stone” He muttered to himself before laughing in self-ridicule, like bloodstones soul stones could only be found in battlefields except in some special cases but unlike with bloodstones the formation of a soul stone was several times more difficult as it required a large amount of grandmaster level entities to have died with grievances and resentments in a particular place which was pretty difficult to attain, their major use was for strengthening the mind and soul which made it a commodity for Master ranked entities would be willing to pay anything for as a stronger soul would make their tribulation of the mind easier.
Only a few moments had passes since he made that statement when he suddenly froze in his track before scratching his head in disbelief, perhaps if he had found soul stones he wouldn’t have been so shocked, before him was a valley filled with bones and skeletons giving off an eerie aura but fluttering about within the valley were beautiful neon butterflies which gave off otherworldly aura creating a conflict with the sinister environment there were in and yet seeming in perfect harmony with the environment. Aldrin of course wasn’t shocked by the scenery but by the butterflies themselves, they were known as soulwings and were formed in a similar manner as soul stones but were several time purer and valuable than soul stones, if soul stones were capable of enticing Master ranked warriors and practitioners then soulwings were capable of making grandmaster ranked figures fight to death, they were so rare to the point that they were believed to be a legend, a soul stone possessed soul energy within but alongside the energy was resentment and negative energy which would affect whoever was going to absorb it and needed to be refined first, grandmasters could also absorb soul stones but it was quite inefficient due to the amount they would require but unlike soul stones, soulwings were a pure manifestation of soul energy that could be absorbed directly, the amount of energy they contained far exceeded what a soul stone contains making them exponentially valuable, if it required a large amount of grandmasters to from soul stones it was unimaginable the amount of supreme masters or even demigods required to form soulwings and yet before him was a valley full of them.
Chapter 13: EvolutionAldrin took in a deep breath and a wide smile formed behind his helmet, slowly he began to descend the hill and into the valley, these soulwings would probably be the greatest harvest of this expedition, this much was sufficient to help promote quite a number of grandmaster to supreme master but he wasn’t about to let anyone get his hoard. If it were anyone else who wasn’t a grandmaster then they would have no use for the soulwings except to just stare at them because if anyone lower than a grandmaster were to attempt absorbing one, the excessive energy contained within would instantly blow up their souls, perhaps a master could attempt to absorb one under careful supervision and help of a grandmaster but they couldn’t take beyond one and yet within the valley was about a hundred of them but Aldrin on the other hand had a spirituality at the same level as that of a grandmaster, absorbing th

Chapter 1: Council Meeting…In the beginning there was only you,So you decided to go on to the end,Till there was nothing left of you.In the beginning I was alone,So I went on to the end, Till there was only I left,Who am I? Who are you, We are Zen,The beginning,And the end.…In a hall about fifty meters in length and breadth were two youngsters moving about rapidly, one of them had lightning flickering around his form with each tensing of his muscles lightning cackled and each fist he threw was accompanied by electricity but the other person looked quite ordinary and very unimposing and despite the difference in appearance none of the former’s attack was able to land as the ordinary looking young man seemed to effortlessly evade and parry each attack. After several exchanges both came to a halt with the empowered young man barely out of breath while the ordinary one was dripping with sweat and totally out of breath, he had his hand on his knees with his dark hair matted a
Chapter 2: AssassinationEverybody has a zen core within themselves, it supplies energy for the body to run and keep function, its importance is no less than that of the heart and its location was just beneath the navel which was the centre of the body.Like arteries and veins run from the heart to every part of the body, energy pathways sometimes known as zen pathways run from the core to every part of the body, the pathways passes through organs, muscles and tissues, through veins and arteries constantly supplying the zen that one either absorbs from the surroundings or that one digests from meals.Just like a man cannot survive without his heart one can’t survive without their zen core as its destruction would lead to inevitable death, there are weak cores and strong core but there has never been a recorded case of someone born without a core, Aldrin is the first case or perhaps the first recorded case.Aldrin took in a deep breath and closed the book he was reading, he looked out
Chapter 3: AwakeningAldrin coughed severally, normally his robes were enhanced with a circuit array allowing him to tank a considerable amount of impact without taking damage, but having fought for about five minutes the protection was already wearing out and with a sword piercing through the robes many of the circuits were damaged reducing the protection the robes offered by a large amount allowing the fire dragon deal more than seventy percent it’s total damage.“How?” Aldrin managed to growl as he wiped out the blood dripping from the corner of his lips while trying to stand up, although Fabien wasn’t the best fighter there was it wasn’t to the point of making such blunder, the panicking expressions that was on Fabien’s face throughout the fight was suddenly nowhere to be found instead was a ridiculing and disdainful sneer, an expression which he wouldn’t find surprising if only he saw it on anyone else that wasn’t his brother.“They say geniuses are often so stupid and I must say
Chapter 4: Quest of AcknowledgementAldrin’s eyes opened slowly and light flooded into them causing him to close them rapidly with a light wince.“The young master has awakened, relay this to the lord.” A female voice suddenly called out and a figure dashed out of the room closing the door behind as she left, Aldrin slowly sat up and surveyed the room he was in and quickly recognized it to be his room. Not far from the bed was a table that was tidy and yet messy at the same time as a plethora of reading and writing materials were displayed across, aside from that table there wasn’t anything noteworthy of in the room, everything else was exquisite and yet simple.“How is your health sir?” A small lady approached Aldrin and tried taking his hand to feel his pulse but suddenly Aldrin stretched his hand and gripped her throat tightly threatening to strangle her.The lady trashed wildly while sobbing and begging for mercy but no matter what she did Aldrin didn’t release his grip on her nec
Chapter 5: The SystemAldrin read through as he listened to the voice read into his head, basically it was just a summary of what he had read in the scroll his father gave him.“What are you exactly?” Aldrin asked feeling quite stupid as he didn’t know if there was someone controlling what he saw and heard or if they would even reply him.[I am the spirit system bound to you.] The voice replied him as the string of words before his eyes changed“Are you an ally?” he pressed further trying to glean as much information as he could and the most important of which he needed to know was to confirm if it was a symbiote or a parasite.[It is the job of the system to ensure its host grows stronger and more powerful so the system could be considered an ally to its host.] The mechanical voice replied in its monotone.Aldrin thought for a few moments, he didn’t know much yet but for some reason he felt that the so called system was akin to an artefact or a tool whose sole purpose was to empower
Chapter 6: Visit to the ancient gryphon clanThe carriage soon arrived in front of a pair of majestic gates of the Gryphon Clan. Two imposing stone pillars, adorned with intricate carvings of gryphons in various poses - soaring, battling, and guarding treasure - support a grand arch topped with a proud gryphon with its wings spread wide. The warm, golden stone, weathered by centuries, exudes the aura of great strength and deep heritage. Gryphon-shaped door knockers gaze out from either side, several glyphs adorn the pillars, and torch holders shaped like gryphon talons hold unlit torches. Flanking the gates, two imposing stone gryphon statues stand guard, complemented by armed, armored clan guards bearing the Gryphon Clan's insignia, standing before them Aldrin couldn’t help but feel as though the Gryphons would come alive the very moment there was a slight sign of danger which made the guards seem more like a decoration instead. As soon as the carriage reached the gates the formerly
