"Don't move!"
Drake stopped moving at once while the strange demon folded identical pairs of near-transparent wings into the thick, rotten hide on it's backs. It was a thin creature of wasted leathery skin stretched over elongated bones. The grey skin around it's mouths pulled tautly across two rows of sharp fangs which dripped viscous yellow pus. It stank to high-heaven.Drake staggered backward in fear as he hide behind Shinigami who was not even bothered. The creature smile didn’t touch his eyes. Something wasn’t right. Shinigami could taste strangeness on the unexpected visit of Normak. The most powerful demon on Shinigami Island."Mundanes are not allowed to be here?" Normak sprawled it's fang as he spoke."He is with me and will be with me until he leaves" Shinigami stated but it seem like it didn't go well with Normak. Normak was well meaning even,he said to protect the island from invasion of any worlds of the Umbra World, so,he deemed it fit that he had to kill the mundane to stop this. And then both of his eyes were pitch-black now, and his jaw had unhinged, stretching his mouth open almost comically wide. Rows of sharp, yellowed fangs were wreathed in pink-red, near auburn, flame. The creature, whatever he truly was, breathed explosive fire into the air and it caused smoke that started to make Drake to cough. With vexation Shinigami threw his arms forward, he was already taking a liking to the mundane young boy, Twin beams of Thor's Lightning got generated on his arms—a trick he'd picked up years ago from some of the secret, unpublished epics by his mum, demon lilth—burst from his palms in wicked, electric-blue arcs and strucked Normak in the chest. It paid well to be a Nephalem in charge of some of the most powerful tomes in existence. The lightning bore into the creature, and with a flick of his wrists he wrenched him a staggering step to the side, using his own momentum against him, and hurled the bastard through the woods and out into the open space.Drake who had almost lost consciousness from coughing due to Normaks smoke watch as the event unfold. He was surprised to see the kind of power Shinigami really exhibited. "Maybe he was truly a Nephalem" and seeing the demon creature, he pinched himself, slapped his cheeks heavily as if he expected to wake up from some dreams.Shinigami cracked his neck and shrugged. It had been a good few months since Shinigami used such devastating, yet satisfying, Thunder lightening. Like the god of thunder, really.“What in the hell is that?” Drake screamed.Shinigami turned noticing there were other demons roaming around and could attack Drake anytime,he casted a spell which turned into a protective shield above and beside Drake."Don't leave this circle for any reason!" Shinigami ordered,he then ran through the heat of the atmosphere, leaping over the woods remains, and out into the air. The place was alive with other demons fleeing or gaping at the torrents of black smoke and pinkish-red flame escaping Normak.Normak had been thrown clean across the sloppy water lounged area and into the woods. He lay slumped and laughing against the crumpled branches of tree. He felt no pain.Another blast of superheated energy seemed fitting. Shinigami hurled a bolt of power, red flame wrapped in crackling lightning, as fast as thought- blurred and was suddenly standing six feet to the left. Shinigami's bolt struck the tree branches and sent it crashing across, spinning to a screeching stop on a wood against the wall of a Shinigami's cave thirty feet away. His body began to jerk and twitch as he crumpled, folding in on himself, growing smaller and smaller until he vanished entirely. Normak was gone and this sent a wave through other demons roaming, they ran away immediately.Shinigami walked back to where Drake was watching in astonishment. When he got there the shield disappeared. Drake had finally confirmed Shinigami was not lying after all. No human can do what he had just done."Let's continue...I need to show you around"Hoping to avoid Shinigami and exit the island by whichever way he didn't quite thought about, he lagged behind as they crossed through a scrubby parts, its poisonous grass burned brown by radiation. His attempts were however futile.******Seconds turned into minutes and minutes into hours, hours into days and days into months. A year passed, and a score of the second, third , forth and fifth year which was few days way to elapse. All of Drake's try to leave the island were all futile.Staying with Shinigami for five years and training with him on how to kill Downworlders who prove to be his enemy and a whole world of trouble while waiting for the time to leave the island and go back home had fine-tuned his survival instinct. Drake learnt all the plethora of martial art skills, focus - concentration skills, the chi techniques and also medicinal abilities from Shinigami.Drake eased himself down onto the cold ground and held his hands to the orb of fire. A biting wind rustled the leaves in the canopy overhead and shook penny-sized drops of rain loose from the trees. The water sizzled as it struck the crystal-blue glow of the flames.‘He hasn’t slept in three days overly because he is super excited that he will soon be back home to Delta city and his family. Sitting on his left was Shinigami, his breath a warm mist against the cold. ‘he didn’t even feel tired – just wired, you know? Like he could tear these trees out of the ground or … or fly, or something.’ He rubbed at his eyelids, and his body shook. Shinigami thought for a moment he was crying, but no, it was laughter. Shinigami didn't for a moment showed Drake his true form. ‘It’s messing with my head Master. What if this is how it starts? Did the early umbra hunters not sleep when they first got turned? His voice dropped to a whisper. ‘Am I really now an Umbra Hunter?"Drake shuffled his cold feet, encased in a pair of sodden, muddy island-fibre, closer to the warm blue blaze emanating from the sphere of fire Shinigami had hung in air with his demonic power.Drake was feeling an intense surge of spiritual energy. He had drank from a mortal cup earlier on. Shinigami summoned Angel Micheal and his blood was drenched into the cup, Shinigami also drenched his blood into it. Making Drake a special breed of Umbra hunters, more fast and skilled having trained with the the only Nephalem. The strongest member of the umbra world with extraordinarily abilities. Drake was now an Angel-Nephalem hybrid. The early umbra hunters were turned when they drank from the mortal cup of which Angel Micheal and a mundanes blood where in and also from the reproduction between them. After the ritual of making Drake an umbra hunter was completed......Shinigami grabbed Drake's wrist, turned it over so the white, vulnerable flesh of his inner arm lay bare under the moonlight. Traceries of blue vein mapped the inside of his skin, carrying angelic blood to his heart, his brain. Drake felt his knees buckle. There was something in Shinigami's hand, something sharp and silver. He tried to pull his hand back, but his grip was too hard: He felt a stinging kiss against his skin. When he let go, he saw an inked black symbol like the one that Shinigami said keeps him in a human form. The something he would usually call a stele.Just below the fold of Drake wrist shinigami used the sharp silver like stuff he called a stele to draw another one that looked like a set of overlapping knots. And then another one on his chest,it was painful but he managed. The one on his chest was the Umbra's hunter rune, the mark was shining as if it had been etched with phosphorescent ink. As Drake watched, it sank into his skin, like a weighted object sinking into water. It left behind a ghostly reminder: a pale, thin scar, almost invisible. He was amused with the abilities he had gained. And now it was time for him to leave Shinigami island, it's five years already and Shinigami has to keep to his words.Shinigami created a portal after he drew a rune with his stele to avoid being traced when he creates the portal. (But would that stop the most powerful warlock from sensing it?)Drake found himself flung forward and tumbling through empty space as he jumped into the portal Shinigami had created after giving him a long, hard stare and also a long hug. Staying with Shinigami for five years in the island had cemented their friendship. He was too surprised to scream. The sensation of falling was the worst part; his heart flew up into his throat and his stomach turned to water. He flung his hands out, trying to catch at something, anything, that might slow his descent. His hands closed on branches. Leaves tore off in his grip. He thumped to the ground, hard, his hip and shoulder striking packed earth. He rolled over, sucking the air back into his lungs. He was just beginning
Before he knew it, Drake had arrived at the entrance to his home when he saw the refurbished house in front of him, he felt a sense of relief with a taste of bitterness as he had no idea how his mum and little sis held up during the five years. My mum and sister must have suffered alot and just behind him was a boutique, he turned back and glanced through the shop front and saw a young girl idling behind the counter, looking bored and flipping through the pages of a magazine. "I need to meet my mum and sister, but what's the rush?,I need to atleast put on some new threads and ensure that nobody knows he stayed at the mysterious island where they'll know shinigami lives. The downworlder would definitely go after him to hunt him down and mundanes would think he is mad because to them it was a myth. Thus,he resolved into that he would lie that he was in prison.A tiny bell chimed over the door when he turned and entered into the boutique, and the girl at the counter glanced up, smiled b
Drake landed heavily on the ground and if it were any other person, he or she would be dead but because of Drake's training and the abilities and potential he possesses as a now special umbra hunter he wasn't hurt or killed. "Who is this goddamn crazy driver?" Drake who earlier couldn't tell how he was feeling fully attested fully that it was anger and it had now been infuriated after being run down the moment he left the used to-be Wayland's Mansion. In the midst of Drake's angry remarks and curse, a thin little voice cried out "why don't you fucking look right, left and then right before crossing?" In a jiffy, a beautiful young lady alighted from the black Ferrari. She was wearing a blue half-length dress and killer heels which made her seductive. Nevertheless, she was staring angrily at Drake who was still lying down pretentiously. Furrowing his eye brows Drake decided to lie down rather than stand up but in the next moment he was up unharmed. The little bruises he received had
Out of excitement he just walked briskly but in a rush manner towards the hotel.Happy that atleast his sister is alive and he has found her. The hotel didn’t look like much—a low brick building that sagged in the middle like a collapsed soufflé. A battered neon sign proclaiming the restaurant’s name hung sideways and was sputtering. Two men in long coats and tipped-forward felt hats slouched in front of the narrow doorway. There were no windows, it looked like a prison. Drake saw that after Clara and the other girls entered the hotel bar, they were brought to the back. He followed behind closely. He got stopped at the front door by one of the slouching men. As he straightened, Drake caught a glimpse of his face under the hat. His skin was dark red, his squared-off hands ending in blue-black nails. mundanes would get their selfs stiffened, but Drake seemed unconcerned. He said something to the man, who nodded and stepped back, allowing him to pass. The slouching men were in glamour. T
Clara couldn't help but wonder what his brother has turned into. "What had happen to him these past five years? Well, we surely have a long discussion ahead" she said calming her nerves." Stop stop, who told y'all to attack?" Muhammed shouted and every of his lackey's looked I'm surprise. Few minutes ago he had instructed them to attack and now he was acting like he didn't.Then Muhammed walked towards Drake and with his eyes glowing golden proved he was a werewolf."I know you're a werewolf...you just shouldn't have sent your Lackeys to attack me.. and she is my sister, Drake said the next words whispering and I don't want her to know anything about who I have become." The werewolf understood the plight of Drake and as a Downworlder also he had to respect the Umbra's hunter and likewise."Clear the place" Muhammed ordered and gave his jacket to Clara to cover herself up. Clara reluctantly took the jacket and couldn't understand why and how the misunderstanding got cleared in a blink
A group of men sit in a conference room all talking informally and completely relaxed waiting for the head of the downworld. The umbra world was into two parts the downword - Vampires, werewolves, umbra hunters , warlocks and witches/wizards - and the mundane - human- world.Majority of the men in the conference room were quite young in age, they were the vampires being already dead cannot die again. Their lifespan multiplies very fast rendering them immortal. The specks of the older men among were the minority, a few of the alpha (pack leaders),umbra hunters and the mundanes that relatively aged, the only woman present was the head of the witches of Delta city. She was fairly old too.It was the last Friday of the month, the usual meeting day of the downworld. The pack leaders of each of the werewolves' pack, the vampires head, a warlock/witch representative and of course a mundane and an umbra hunter were present. The sole or ulterior motive of the meeting were to maintain stability be
At Darwin's Residence...Darwin paced back and forth anxiously waiting at the entrance door, checking his watch every now and then.Samantha who was playing gulf at the Darwin's mansion field could see from afar that his dad was anxious. Desperate to live again and right his wrongs. She lost his mother to a rival regiment when she was eight and as such was trained by Darwin, her father and that cemented a bond between them. Samantha too was scared, she couldn't imagine her dad kicking the bucket, thus she hope Drake comes very soon that's if he dad didn't die from being overly anxious. She walked briskly through the narrow part and met her dad with his hands on his head expressing the grief of being dead while still alive. He just had a glimmer of hope, maybe the young boy could save him."Dad.....are you feeling alright? I think that boy was just bullshitting and spouting what he doesn't know. I have a friend in Ninbe city, she said they have good doctors who practiced the soul resurrect
"What you're intending to do won't save him, it'll only kill him!" Drake commented seeing the way the lady Doctor was inserting the silver needles into Darwin's acupoints, it was very poor, Left very little to imagination."This made the latter knit her eyebrows. Will you get this unprofessional out of this room now, I don't need any distractions!"" The lady demanded.Despite feeling incensed and that the saving of Darwin was the priority and that she would do anything to save him at that instant, she lunged at Drake."You have no idea what they're doing, yet you speak negatively. Get out!" She barked. It's acupuncture and it's a part or Chinese traditional medical technique. A treatment of pain or disease by inserting the tips of needles at specific points on the skin. It usually takes decades of study for one to be professional. Even professionals can revive the dead with it."Don't tell me you know acupuncture? " The lady asked in surprise."I have practiced it" Drake replied. In di
"I have seen that-" Clara spoke pointing at the stele, Vick hide under his belt."Where?" Catherine and Vick asked simultaneously."Drake used it to- wait, I remember now, I remember the symbol of the overlapping circles with a cross in between now, Drake had used it to draw the symbol on the wall". Clara got up immediately with her memory fragments returning."Only an umbra hunter can use the stele? Even those with womanland ancestral blood can't use it, it'd burn through them like a very corrosive acid... " Vick said almost jokingly." I'm serious-..." Clara affirmed , Catherine looking in disbelief."We'll find out soon enough... Do you have anything that belongs to him? I can use the umbra tracking technique to track him down and these puzzle will get solved. I just need anything that has his scent." said Vick.A moment of silence dawned on the room, Clara had nothing of Drake on her and neither did - " I have something, this wrist pendant, Drake made it for me five years ago. May
The smoke surged forward, forming and re-forming itself. A tendril took the shape of a human hand and stroked the edge of the burning pentagram that contained it. Then, with a surge, the smoke seethed past the edge of the star, poured over the border like a wave breaching a levee. The flames guttered and died as Otumba on the other hand started vibrating like he was feeling a sensation, screaming. The Genie stumbled backward. He was chanting now, in rapid Chthonian, spells of containment and ritual continuation. Then something happened; the black smoke-mass came on inexorably, and now it was starting to have something of a shape—a malformed, enormous, hideous shape, its glowing eyes altering, rounding to the size of saucers, spilling a dreadful light. It surged forward and coiled around Drake who had converted from cryptic visuals to intelligible language."An Angel-Nephalem blood?!" The smoke spoke out soaring up, back ward as he snuffed out the blood that ran through the young boys
Afternoon light woke Samantha up, a beam of pale brightness that laid itself directly over her face, lighting the insides of her eyelids to hot pink. She stirred restlessly and warily opened her eyes. The fever was gone, and so was the sense that her bones were melting and breaking inside her as a result of Drake not returning last night. She sat up and glanced around with curious eyes. She was in her room—white-painted, the bed covered with a brightly woven rag blanket. Lace curtains were drawn back over round windows, letting in circles of light. She sat up slowly, waiting for dizziness to wash over her. Nothing happened. She felt entirely healthy, even well rested. She went to one of the circular windows and peered out. This side of the house faced away from the canal, onto a narrow side garden turning brown and gold with autumn. A trellis crawled up the side of the house; a single last rose hung on it, drooping browning petals. The doorknob rattled, a young woman entered, hol
Nausea and pain came and went in ever-tightening whirlpools. Clara could see only a blur of colors around her: she was conscious that the figure he trailed; Vick was carrying her, every one of his steps slamming into her skull like an ice pick. She was aware that she was clinging to him and the strength of his arms a comfort. Very distantly, she knew that she was gasping for breath, and she heard Vick say her name. Then everything went silent. For a moment she thought that was the end of it: she had died, died battling demons she thought never existed, the way she did, she never thought she coul and a surge of what felt like ice spilling through her veins. She squeezed her eyes shut against the pain, but the cold of whatever Vick had done to her was like having a glass of water dashed in her face. Slowly, the world ceased its spinning, the whirlpools of nausea and pain lessening until they were only ripples in the tide of her blood. She could breathe again. With a gasp, she opened her
Wayland is from Kano jungle forest in Nigeria, Africa. A remote jungle deep inside the heart of Kano. An uncivilized village in the middle of an old jungle. They harbored the Demon sword that had the power to control demons and in the bid of some selfish demons to get hold of it they attacked the jungle and massacred everyone, only Wayland escaped with the Sword and he found himself in the womanland. Her father of course, they were talking about her father Mr Wayland but until now she thought his father from Delta city. And Catherine, is from the womanland, a world where only women existed, a world that is surrounded by a shield that shields the male gender away, hidden in a forbidden forest somewhere in Africa. Rumors says that she was poisoned with love poisoning from Wayland when he accidentally found its way to womanland and that was why she got exiled alongside the abomination 'Wayland;the male gender". Initially they had wanted to kill the man, Wayland for being a male. It was a
Darwin and Samantha were quite relieved that neither Drake nor Mr Otumba showed up for the appointment but got quite worried why Drake didn't but he had been the one insisting the appointment gets booked.Anyways, they resolved into asking him when they returned home, hopefully Drake would be home by that time. And sooner they were home.Feeling faint and sick, Clara stripped off the slip dress and her underwear, tossing them into the wastebasket before crawling into the hot water. She washed her hair over and over again, trying to get calm her nerves down . It was like trying to wash out something that's insoluble. The fact her memory was being blocked lingered too, like the water from a vase. No amount of Washing was able to help her. Finally convinced she was as clean as she was going to get, she dried off and went to the master bedroom to get dressed. It was a relief to climb back into jeans and boots and slip on a comfortable cotton sweater. It was only then, as she pulled on he
The Darkness in the room was more profound than any darkness Drake had ever known. He couldn’t see the shape of his own hand in front of his eyes, couldn’t see the floor or ceiling of where he was. Where was he? , he knew from the torchlit first glimpse he’d had, forcefully dragged down here by a contingent of werewolves, who had opened the barred gate of the room or should he say a cell for him and ushered him inside as if he were to be slained. Then again, that’s probably exactly what they thought was his faith; To be slain. Nobody dare go against Mr Otumba, well except he or she is courting death. Drake discovered that the cell had a flagged stone floor, that three of the walls were hewn rock, and that the fourth was made of narrowly spaced electrum bars, each end sunk deeply into stone. He also discovered that there was a door set into those bars. He also knew that a long metal bar ran along the east wall, because the Werewolves had attached one loop of a pair of silver cuffs t

Meanwhile at Darwin's mansion...Clara was trying to draw the thing that had attacked her in the dream. She was still reminiscing on that as she took her sketchpad and started working out something. She was still feeling uncomfortable.“And his arm looked like an eggplant,” Clara muttered to herself in exasperation. The drawing just wasn’t working. With a sigh she tore yet another sheet from her sketchpad, crumpled it up, and tossed it against the orange wall of the bedroom. Already the floor was littered with discarded balls of paper, a sure sign that her creative juices weren’t flowing the way she’d hoped. Clara pulled her headphones out—cutting off Stepping Razor in mid song—and rubbed her aching temples. It was only then that she became aware that the loud, piercing sound of a ringing telephone was echoing through the apartment. Tossing the sketchpad onto the bed, she jumped to her feet and ran into the living room, where the retro-red phone sat on a table near the front door.“H
