Chapter 5: Accident.

It was my fault for coming here when I knew they were at lunch break, but she was right, what could I possibly do to them?

I stopped at Dora's office door and knocked and I heard a come in before heading inside.

Dora is the assistant to the chief financial officer and she does all the work because her sister Megan was the chief financial officer and barely comes to work but her parents would never say anything to her.

I opened the door of her office and immediately I walked in and she saw me, her face brightened as she stood up and I closed the door behind me.

"What are you doing here today ,I thought you were sick?" She asked worriedly as she walked up to me and ushered for me to sit ,to which we both sat down on the couch in her office.

"Your mother told me that I was pretending to be sick. She told me to go and look for work." I said and Dora sighed and looked away.

"I thought I told her this morning before leaving for work to leave you alone because you are sick." Dora mumbled.

"Just forget about it. I decided to come and visit you, how are you doing today?" I asked her and she smiled.

"I am fine you are even wearing the shirt that I bought for you, it looks nice on you." Dora said.

"Thank you." I replied.

"What can I get you? Do you want to go out for lunch with me? It's my lunch break." She asked.

"Yes." I replied and her door swung open.

"Dora I need these files to attend to." Megan, Dora's older sister who just barged into her office said.

Her eyes landed on me and her eyes hardened..

"What's this trash doing here?" Megan asked with a frown.

Dora frowned at Megan's words.

"Megan, please watch how you talk to my husband." Dora said as she stood up and walked up to Megan and took the files from her hand.

"Husband?" Megan scoffed with an eye roll.

"If this incompetent man is the only man in the world I would rather stay single than marry him." Megan huffed.

"You better divorce him if you know what's good for you, Mom and Dad don't like him,it's just a matter of time before he gets kicked out." Megan said as she took one more look at me,shook her head and walked out of the office.

"Ignore her." Dora told me.

I wish I could but we live in the same house.

"Let's go out for lunch." Dora said.

"I thought you needed to work?" I asked her and she chuckled.

"Don't be silly, spending time with you is more important than work, besides I know you won't have a lot of free time when you get a steady job, let's enjoy each other's company now." Dora smiled.

I don't know how I got to marry such an amazing woman but she is the best thing that ever happened to me.

"Thank you for understanding Dora." I smiled.

"It's fine." Dora replied as we left her office to go and eat lunch in a restaurant near the company building.

For Dora's sake I had to find a good job quickly so I won't disappoint her and support her.

***

It was another normal day of me going to different job interviews, I was getting much better now so I could go out more easily.

I still haven't found a job that I could say I was proud of but right now I can just keep working part time before I can get a full job.

I was saving up money because Dora said she wants to leave her parents Mansion so we can leave alone, just the both of us because her parents weren't treating me well.

Just that word got me more encouraged.

Dora is the only one I can truly say was on my side, she has lived with her parents for this long and I was sure she has endured some maltreatment from them and never complained, but just because they don't treat me well she was willing to leave her comfortable life to start afresh together with me.

I don't know how I got to know such an incredible woman, but having her beside me gives me a lot of motivation to do things that I never thought I could do.

I know I was worried about marrying a stranger in the beginning but now marrying Dora was the best thing that could have ever happened to me.

We didn't know each other well until we got married but Dora has been understanding of my situation and gives me her support.

I should try my best not to disappoint her.

I just got off the bus and was walking down the street to the law firm I had a job interview for today.

I hope I can just get a job as a personal assistant. It won't matter.

I was about to walk into the law firm when my phone started ringing and I answered the call even though it was from an unknown number.

"Hello." I was curious about who the caller was.

"Hello, is this Mr Bruce?" The female caller asked.

"Yes." I replied.

"Please we need you to come down to the hospital immediately." She said and my heart skipped a beat.

"Why is something wrong?" I asked curiously.

"Your wife Mrs Dora was involved in an accident. She's in critical condition, please rush down to the hospital." She informed me and my eyes widened as I gulped.

"W...Where?" I asked with a stammer and she told me the address of the hospital and I ran ,hailed down a cab, got in and told the cab man to drive me down to the hospital.

My heart was drumming in my chest as I feared the worst.

Dora got into an accident?

How could this be?

She barely even leaves the company building, was she sent on a meeting elsewhere?

Different thoughts ran through my mind and I decided to call my Dad ,with shaky hands I called Mr Chase, he answered.
