Chapter 27

As Vere approached the police officer who was in possession of the accident report, he experienced a mix of apprehension and emotions. "Mr. Police officer, I'm the husband of the victim," he replied.

"Are you serious?" the policeman retorted, appearing astonished. "Yes, sir," Vere answered. The policeman asked, "Which car?" "The yellow one," Vere said. "It belongs to Jefferson Cole, the owner of the yellow car."

That time the police officer was waiting for Veres' reply. “Oops, ahm, sorry, it's not. I thought it was my wife's car, as it seems the same.” Vere said. “Oh, I'm with you,” the police officer replied."Thank you,” Mr. Police Officer Vere said. “It's ok,” the police officer answered.

Vere stepped up to the car, which had suffered considerable front-end damage in the collision, to alleviate his mind. When he noticed that Mira's license plate number was different and that the two cars were not the same, his heart began to lift.

He pushed his pal James, who was also examining the accident scene, to "come on, let's go." James and Vere climbed into the car and left the scene of the collision.

Vere was concerned about Mira the entire time they were traveling. Vere whispered to himself, " I really Thank God that it wasn't her. " because I wouldn't be able to forgive myself."

Meanwhile, Vere retrieved his phone from his pocket and turned it on. "You know what, James? If that had been Mira, I wouldn't know. I turned off my phone."

Mr. Vere, why did you turn off your phone? James questioned. “Because, she's been contacting me a lot lately, " Vere said. “ For now I can't, and I won't because of everything she's done I need time to think about all this.”

Finally, Vere and James arrived at the hotel. Vere stepped out of the car, and he and James bid farewell to each other.

As days turned into weeks, Vere continued to avoid speaking to Mira and didn't respond to her text messages. However, after a week, Vere realized and decided to return to their mansion and face the situation. For the sake of their marriage and their future together.

He knew that it was time to have a heartfelt conversation with Mira, his beloved wife. The growing distance between them had become increasingly apparent, and Vere couldn't ignore the growing unease in their relationship any longer.

He knew Mira was waiting for him to come home, and maybe she was ready to discuss everything that had transpired. But an unexpected situation awaited.

Vere arrived at the mansion, and he was greeted by one of their household staff, Juanita, she informed Vere that Mira had been isolating herself in her room.

"Mr. Vere, thank you for coming. We've been worried about Mrs. Mira. She has been in her room for some time now, refusing to eat, and she's instructed us not to disturb her," Juanita explained.

"Alright, Juanita, thank you," Vere replied, his concern growing. He then proceeded to their room. Vere knocked on their bedroom door and gently entered. As he stepped into the room, he heard music playing softly from the bathroom. Vere knows that It was a habit of Mira's to have music playing while she soaked in the bath. At that moment, Vere decided not to interrupt her instead so he settled down on a couch beside their bed.

Vere had dozed off while waiting, and when he woke up, he realized that two hours had passed. It was time for lunch, and Mira still hadn't finished her bath. Vere became increasingly concerned.

He approached the bathroom and was shocked to find the water in the bathtub tinged with red, and Mira lifeless with a small knife in her hand. In a panic, Vere swiftly removed the knife from Mira's hand and carefully lifted her out of the bathtub. He immediately called Juanita to summon an ambulance.

In that fateful moment, Vere found himself unable to comprehend the tragic decision Mira had made. An ambulance, its siren wailing, swiftly arrived and rushed her to the hospital, Vere's car following closely in pursuit. At that moment, the atmosphere was fraught with tension, and anxiety hung in the air as the two vehicles sped toward the medical facility. However, upon their arrival at the hospital, Vere's world crumbled.

The medical team, with grave expressions, declared Mira "dead on arrival." As the doctor approached him, words hit Vere like a tidal wave, leaving him stunned and utterly devastated. The doctor gently spoke, "I'm deeply sorry, but there was nothing we could do. She had already passed when she arrived here." Vere's heart shattered at the news.

The tears flowed uncontrollably as he struggled to process the sudden and tragic loss of his beloved wife, as he never expected this would happen. Amidst the gut-wrenching sorrow, Vere knew he had to take on the painful responsibility of informing Mira's parents.

His trembling hands dialed the number for Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez, who were unaware of the heartbreaking news that was about to reach them.

Vere's voice quivered as he spoke into the phone, "Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez, it's Vere. I don't know how to say this, there's something happened to Mira, and Im sorry to say that she committed suicide. Mira... Mira didn't make it. She's gone."

That time Mr. Fuentez, his voice trembling with disbelief at what happened to his daughter, responded, "What? No, this can't be true Vere." Vere, tears streaming down his face, could hardly find the words as he confirmed, "I'm at the hospital right now.

The doctors have declared her dead on arrival. I can't believe it myself" Vere said." Mrs. Fuentez, on the other end of the line, began to weep uncontrollably, her world-shattering into a million pieces.

"Oh, dear God, no! Our daughter... Our Mira!" The profound grief enveloped them all, and Vere, amidst the chaos of the emergency room and the sobs of those who loved Mira, found himself struggling to come to terms with the tragic turn of events.

After a while, Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez arrived at the scene, their faces etched with concern. They rushed over to Vere and embraced him tightly. Their expressions were a mix of worry and curiosity, and they wasted no time in asking Vere what had transpired.

The Fuentez couple found it difficult to understand Vere's explanation as he began to describe what happened that fateful night. There was something about the way Vere told the tale that made them feel uneasy with doubt and suspicion, especially when Vere mentioned that he was in Mira's room at the time of the incident.

As Vere watched the couple's eyes becoming more uneasy, and when Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez mentioned starting an investigation, he felt as though the ground had shifted beneath him. The seriousness of the situation started to dawn on them. As Realizing that this was the only way to learn the truth and clear his name, Vere nodded and Agreed to their choice.

A day later, while Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez and Vere were resting on Mira's hill, a pair of police officers arrived at the scene. They exchanged words with the Fuentez couple, their expressions serious and professional.

Simultaneously, a police officer approached Vere, casting a shadow of apprehension over him. The officer's tone was stern and informed Vere that he was under arrest. Vere's eyes widened in shock, and he stammered, "Arrest? What for?"

Without a hint of sympathy, the police officer ushered Vere into the police car and transported him to the precinct. Once they arrived, the officer explained the grave situation to Vere. "The knife we found at the scene had your fingerprints all over it, Mr. Vere. And with your admission of being in Mira's room during the incident, things don't look good for you," the officer said, his gaze unwavering. "So for now You'll have to cooperate with the investigation to clear your name, but right now, you're a person of interest."

As Vere sat in the cold, dimly lit interrogation room, he realized the tangled web of events that had led him here. The truth seemed elusive, and he was now entangled in a mysterious and ominous situation that could change his life forever.

Vere had faith in the justice system, and he trusted that it would eventually reveal the innocence he knew to be true. His determination to clear his name and honor the memory of his wife fueled his resilience during this challenging and heart-wrenching period of his life.
