Chapter 31

On that fateful night, while Vere found himself in the dimly lit cell, he pondered whether he should accept the offer from Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez. It was the only remaining option for him to escape the confines of his prison, as there are no signs of James yet.

After three long days of contemplation, Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez returned to visit Vere in his cell. Vere had been wrongfully accused of a crime he did not commit. Unforgettable nightmare that had shattered in his life, and he had spent countless nights behind those unforgiving bars, yearning for justice.

The justice system had failed him, and he had lost faith in it. However, the Fuentez offer presented a ray of light in the abyss of despair, even though there is no assurance if that is a good decision to trust them, as they once sent Vere to prison, but for now, Vere doesn't have any other choice but to accept. As he was desperately wants to get out of the prison.

At that moment, Vere decided not to beat around the bush, and he accepted Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez's offer. As he walked into the visitation room, he could see the expectant look in the eyes of the couple.

As Vere approached, he couldn't help but feel a little tense and nervous about this decision that he was going to make, whether it was right or just a big mistake. As he approaches them at the table, he begins, "About your offer yesterday, I've thought about it, and I'm willing to accept that agreement just to get out of this cell, but I hope this is not a game." “Because if it happens, I will not respect both of you as the parents of my late wife,” he added.

At that moment, Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez looked at Vere, briefly leaving them speechless for a second due to the unexpected statement. After a pause, Mrs. Fuentez finally spoke, "Oh, that's great to hear, Vere.” “Well tomorrow we will send Attorney Scott to sort out the necessary paperwork” as Mr. Fuentez added.

With that, Vere returned to his cell, his heart filled with hope and a little doubt.

On the night as the night fell, while Vere lay in his bunk, hoping for a peaceful night's sleep. And he was abruptly awakened by the creaking sound of the iron cell door. He forced his eyes open and was startled to see two prison guards standing near the door, with their expressions unreadable. And they told him that he was being transferred back to his former cell.

And as he entered, he was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by Johnny, Tony, and Ted, his fellow inmates. They patted him on the back, and Johnny asked, "Hey Vere, how are you holding up?" Vere replied with a hint of relief, "I'm doing okay now at least and at last, I can see some light out here, even if it's just the prison yard lights."

The three friends chuckled, understanding the humor in Vere's words. "And don't worry, Vere. Tomorrow you'll get to see the real daylight," said Tony with a smile and so Ted added, "That's right. And we'll make sure you get to experience it to the fullest."

The camaraderie and shared laughter helped Vere settle into his former cell. For Vere, it had been a long journey, but he felt like he was among friends and people who had shared in his struggles and triumphs, as they were united by the common goal of surviving their time behind bars and, perhaps, finding a glimmer of hope in the darkness.

With Vere's return to his cell and the promise of the following day, they all settled in for a peaceful night's sleep, ready to face the new day and whatever it might bring.

The following day, while the prisoners were going about their exercise routine, Vere was abruptly summoned. "Vere, you have a visitor," the jail guard informed him.

Vere was then escorted to the visitation room, where he found Attorney Scott waiting for him. Attorney Scott introduced himself, saying, "Mr. Vere, I am Attorney Scott. I'm here on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez, as per the agreement regarding your case."

And he handed Vere a folder containing documents and papers, which Vere began to read with great interest. As he perused the contents, he realized that these were vital legal documents related to his case. They outlined a surprising proposition: Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez was willing to drop their involvement in the case against him in exchange for ownership of a company that Vere apparently possessed.

Vere looked up at Attorney Scott with a mixture of surprise and concern. "So, they want the company in exchange for dropping the case?" he asked. Attorney Scott nodded. "Yes, that's correct. Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez have a keen interest in your company, and they are willing to arrange for your release in return for transferring the company to their ownership."

Vere contemplated this proposition for a moment, weighing the potential freedom against the loss of his company. And for Vere, it was a difficult decision to make, one that would significantly alter his life. He realized that the choice he made now would have a lasting impact on his future and the hard work in which he invested.

At that moment, Vere let out a heavy sigh, his mind racing with thoughts of desperation and longing for freedom. After a brief moment of deep contemplation, he reached a momentous decision. The weight of his current situation, the yearning for a life beyond prison walls, and the glimmer of hope offered by the agreement with Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez led him to sign the documents.

With a heavy heart, Vere signed the papers, accepting the proposition that would exchange his company for his freedom. It was a difficult choice, one made under the duress of confinement and the desire for liberty. Vere realized that he was making a trade, and it would mean relinquishing something of great value to him. But in that moment, the allure of freedom outweighed everything else.

As he put pen to paper, Vere understood that he was taking a significant step, one that would forever change the course of his life. The ink on those documents represented not only his signature but also the hope of a new beginning outside the prison walls, and he clung to that hope with every ounce of his being.

After Vere had signed the documents, Attorney Scott bid him farewell. "Alright, Mr. Vere, thank you so much, and until we meet again," Attorney Scott said as he prepared to leave.

On that day, while still confined within the prison walls, Vere's demeanor had noticeably turned somber, and his fellow inmates, Johnny, Ted, and Tony, couldn't help but take notice. They sensed his sadness and couldn't help but inquire about the cause of his melancholy. With a heavy heart, Vere began to share the story of his decision and the subsequent signing of the agreement.

As Tony begins “Vere, do you think that you can trust them completely?” Vere replied "I don't know but all I was hoping is to get out of this cell that's all." “Hmm for now just don’t worry who knows right if they really have to comply with their words with you with this agreement” Johnny said.

“Yeah but really to trust someone who already put your life in hell is definitely not a good sound though," Ted added.

Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months since Vere had signed the agreement with Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez, and during that time, neither the Fuentez couple nor their attorney, Attorney Scott, didn't have any more appearances at the prison. This silence left Vere in a state of uncertainty, his future hanging in the balance, and his friends could sense his growing anxiety.

Johnny, his closest friend among the inmates, spoke up with concern, "Vere, you've been through so much, anyways Have you heard anything from Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez or Attorney Scott about your case and so about the agreement?” Vere shook his head with a deep sigh, with worry etched on his face. "No,until now there has been no word from them, and it's been months now. I'm beginning to wonder if I made a terrible mistake by signing this shit agreement!"

That night, quiet and calm settled over the prison, and Vere, Johnny, Ted, and Tony found themselves lying in their bunks. As they lay in the dimly lit cell, they began discussing a daring plan for an escape involving other inmates. That time, their excitement over the plan pulsed through the air. They knew that any escape attempt was fraught with danger and could have serious consequences, but the desire for freedom burned brightly in their hearts. The bond between them had grown strong, as they were ready to take a risk for a chance at a life beyond the prison walls.
