Chapter 36

Vere found himself battered and bruised on the unforgiving streets, but he was now on the path to healing. He had sought refuge in a safe hideout alongside Crystal and Ronnie.

Crystal wasted no time in admonishing him, her concern evident in her voice. "Vere, I told you not to venture out.Because this place isn't safe for you, especially since you're a new face here. And nothing around here is familiar to you yet. You're just a visitor, so please, from now on, do as I say. I warned you," Crystal began, her eyes locked on Vere.

Vere met Crystal's stern gaze and nodded in agreement. "Okay, but I went out there with a purpose to find you and Ronnie," he explained.

"We appreciate that," Ronnie chimed in, "but this place is like a living nightmare, especially during the night. All the bad elements come out, and if you venture out, you'll be in trouble. Worse yet, if you take the wrong turn, you might get caught by the police."

Vere's face bore the visible signs of his recent ordeal, and he couldn't help but feel grateful for finding shelter with Crystal and Ronnie, who had taken him in during his time of need. He understood their concerns and knew that his own inexperience in this unfamiliar place had put him in danger.

Vere turned his gaze toward Ronnie and Crystal, and his curiosity piqued. "Any news from James?" he inquired.

Crystal, with a measured tone, responded, "What you saw last time about James is true. He's with bodyguards and now acts as the boss of the company that Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez owns, which is  your company."

Vere's emotions swirled, a mix of anger and sorrow bubbling up within him due to the news. Crystal noticed his reaction and reassured him, "You don't have to worry. I can find a way to get closer to James, but it will take time.

However, I need your cooperation, Vere. Please don't take any risky actions that might jeopardize us, including yourself. Just follow my instructions and stay inside. Please."

Vere nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation and the need for patience and caution. With Crystal's determination and his own commitment to follow her guidance, they would work towards uncovering the truth and navigating the complex world they found themselves in.

Week passed, while Vere and Ronnie eating their breakfast Ronnies phone rang and it was Crystal called on the other line and then Ronnie handed the phone to Vere.  Vere's day brightened as he listened to Crystal's news, rekindling hope in his heart. Crystal informed them, "Your previous company, the Fuentez Company, is urgently hiring janitors.

You and Ronnie can work there. I went in pretending to apply for a job, but they're only looking for janitors but you have to hide your identity as well so you won't get compromised." Vere's face lit up with excitement. He saw this as an opportunity to get closer to James without arousing suspicion. "Thank you, Crystal," he said with gratitude.

Turning to Ronnie, he shared the good news, "Ronnie, Crystal just gave us a lifeline. We can work together and earn a steady income every month."

Ronnie was equally elated, "Oh wow, Vere! We can work side by side and have a steady income. This is a chance for us to get closer to James."

With this new job opportunity, Vere and Ronnie could work undercover within the company, inching closer to their goal of confronting James without drawing unnecessary attention.

The following day, the two were excited. Vere and Ronnie made their way to the company that once belonged to Vere but was now under the ownership of Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez.

Their purpose is to apply for a job as a janitor. They approached the building's staff in charge of maintenance hiring and proceeded straight to the office to submit their applications. However, while inside the building and speaking to one of the staff members, Vere couldn't help but look around, scanning the surroundings.

"Hey, you, Mr. Wayne, Mr. Wayne. Hey, are you listening?" the staff member called out. Vere snapped back to attention, realizing he had been distracted. "Oh, yeah, um, I'm sorry for that," he replied, slightly flustered. The staff member didn't seem to mind and said, "You're hired, and tomorrow you can start your work as janitors, both of you."

"Thank you, sir," Vere responded with a nod. Both Vere and Ronnie left the office, their faces lit up with happiness and renewed hope. They had successfully secured the jobs, which would now serve as their means of getting closer to James without raising suspicion.

The next day, Vere and Ronnie arrived at their new workplace bright and early. It was their first day on the job at the company that once belonged to Vere.

As Vere began his janitorial duties, he couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. While he was busy cleaning, Vere's heart skipped a beat as he saw James walk by, flanked by his two imposing bodyguards. He froze momentarily, his mop held mid-air, as his gaze followed James's path.

As Vere continued his work, thoughts swirled in his mind. He couldn't shake the feeling of betrayal by James. "This guy," Vere mumbled under his breath, hidden beneath the noise of the workplace, "will pay for his treachery someday."

With determination burning in his eyes, Vere knew that this job was not just about cleaning the floors and taking out the trash. It was a means to get closer to James, to uncover the truth behind the changes that had taken place in the company he once owned, and to seek justice for the wrongs he felt had been committed.

As days turned into weeks and then months, Vere and Ronnie continued working as janitors for the same company. They persevered in their roles, their determination unwavering.

However, one fateful day, a shocking tragedy unfolded. Vere was pushing a large wheeled trash bin container toward the garbage disposal area across the street from the building. The bustling city life continued around him as he focused on his task.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, a speeding car careened into his path. Vere had no time to react. The car struck Vere with brutal force, sending him tumbling through the air, his body crashing into a metal structure with a sickening thud. His face bore the brunt of the impact, leaving it nearly unrecognizable as a gruesome mask of injury.

The driver of the car, a well-dressed businesswoman, immediately sprang from her vehicle, panic etched across her face. Without any hesitation, she rushed to Vere's side, recognizing the gravity of the situation. Without delay, she ushered him into her car and raced him to the nearest hospital.

The accident had left Vere in a critical condition, struggling for his life. His face bore the brunt of the impact, leaving it severely disfigured, and his injuries ran deep. That rich woman responsible for the accident felt the weight of responsibility heavy on her shoulders, and she remained by Vere's side, committed to helping him in any way she could just to save Vere's life. Inside the hospital, Vere was placed in the intensive care unit, teetering on the edge of life and death.

A dedicated medical team worked tirelessly to stabilize his condition, but the journey to recovery seemed daunting and uncertain. The scars on Vere's face served as a constant, painful reminder of the sudden and tragic turn of events that had befallen him. The woman who had inadvertently caused the accident continued to support Vere's medical care, making sure he received the best treatment available. Her overwhelming sense of guilt and responsibility compelled her to do everything within her means to aid in Vere's recovery.

As Vere fought for his life, the outcome remained uncertain. The mission he had embarked upon with Ronnie to confront James and uncover the truth about the company now hung in the balance. The unexpected accident had thrown a wrench into their plans, leaving both Vere and his allies in a state of deep uncertainty and anxiety.
