Chapter 37

It's been two weeks, Since Vere got into a tragic accident and Vere is still in the hospital, fighting for his life. The wealthy woman who owned the car that collided with Vere made the decision to take him to another country, just as the doctors had advised. They believed it would be better for Vere to receive treatment in a different country because of the advanced facilities.

The wealthy woman was undeterred by the potential expenses because it was her car that had collided with Vere. Her primary concern was to save Vere's life. The woman didn't waste any time. She immediately flew to Los Angeles to have Vere treated there. Her sense of urgency was driven by her determination to ensure Vere's well-being.

Upon realizing the critical importance of every moment, the woman wasted no time and swiftly boarded a flight to Los Angeles. Her determination to ensure Vere's recovery was unwavering and her resolve led her to choose Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, as the treatment destination.

And her decision was fueled by a deep commitment to doing whatever it took to provide Vere with the best possible chance of recovery. With Vere's life hanging in the balance, the wealthy woman was resolute in her determination to help him pull through.

Three months had passed since Vere was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Now, Vere was showing signs of progress in his treatment, marking the first time he had regained consciousness since his accident.

Now in his fifth month of treatment, Vere has made significant progress. He could not only speak, but he could also understand and communicate. However, when Vere looked at his own reflection in the mirror, he was utterly astonished and couldn't believe what he saw, and at that time, his tears were falling.

Eight months had passed, and Vere had made a remarkable recovery, though his face was still concealed by bandages. One day, he awoke to the sound of a voice.

"Hi, Mr. Wayne, I am glad you're awake," said the voice of the woman talking to Vere, and suddenly she approached Vere's side on his bed. Before she spoke, she let out a deep breath. "I am sorry for what happened, Mr.Wayne."

Vere, still disoriented, asked, "Who are you? Where are Crystal and Ronnie?" "They left in Zermatt," she replied. "It's just you and me now here in Los Angeles. By the way, I'm Olivia West, the owner of the car that hit you."

Overwhelmed by the situation, Vere questioned, "So what will happen to me now? My face!" His voice trembled as he held his bandaged face, tears welling up.

"So, what will happen to me now with my face like this? Vere asked Olivia with a mix of sadness and anger in his voice. "Don't worry, Mr. Wayne," Olivia replied. "Actually, I've been waiting for you to wake up and recover a bit before asking for your permission to have facial surgery. And about the expenses, I'm willing to pay whatever it takes, no matter how much the cost is." "And after the surgery, you won't have to work as a janitor anymore," she added.

At that moment, Vere deeply contemplated Olivia's words. He thought about everything that had happened, including his life as a fugitive.

Without any doubts Vere has eventually accepted Olivia's offer. “I'll agree to have a face surgery," Vere said. "Okay then, so next week, you will undergo the procedure, so you leave this hospital once it's all done and at one time." Olivia nodded, relieved by Vere's acceptance.

The road to recovery and transformation was about to begin, and Vere was prepared to embrace it.

After a week, Vere underwent facial surgery, and it took six weeks for his mild recovery. Olivia is deeply concerned about his well-being, so she offers Vere a better environment for him, so she makes a proposal.

"Now that you're feeling a little better from your surgery, maybe you'd like to stay at my place to change your surroundings," Olivia suggested. Vere gazed at Olivia, then nodded in agreement. "Okay," he responded. "Great," Olivia said with a reassuring smile.

"I'll talk to the doctor, and we'll be back here for some follow-up check-ups."

That same afternoon, at three o'clock, Olivia and Vere left the hospital and headed straight to her mansion in Glendale. Vere was awestruck by the sight of Olivia's grand estate. For a moment, he stood still and spellbound, even with his face still bandaged. He could see the beauty of the mansion through the gaps in his bandages. It reminded him of his own similarly large mansion.

"Mr. Wayne, is there something wrong?" Olivia asked, patiently waiting for him to step out of the car.

The next day, in Olivia West's mansion in Glendale, Vere woke up early. He sat in a room with a wide garden view, observing the fountain and the lush greenery surrounding the area. After a while, Olivia approached him. "Good morning, Mr. Wayne. You're up early?" Olivia greeted and inquired. "Hi, good morning," Vere replied. "So, do you like it here?" Olivia asked. "Yeah, this place is beautiful," Vere responded, admiring the surroundings. "It is indeed," Olivia agreed.

She began to share some personal information, "This place belongs to my late parents, and I'm their only child. We also have mansions in Zermatt and Bormio." Vere felt a sense of shock hearing those locations mentioned by Olivia, as he owned mansions in the very same places. However, he knew he had to keep his true identity hidden from her.

As they continue their story. So, how about you, Mr. Wayne?" Olivia asked Vere. Vere began to share his fabricated background, "I grew up in Zermatt with my mother. My father passed away when I was just a kid, and I'm their only son.

Sadly, my mother also passed away a few months ago, so I'm alone now." "Sorry to hear that," Olivia expressed her sympathy. "So, we're both in similar situations now." The conversation continued, and they talked about their respective lives. They shared their stories until Olivia's conversation led to Vere. Unbeknownst to her, the person she was discussing was right there beside her and with her in the mansion.

So, how about this, Mr. Vere Mendez? "Vere asked Olivia. "Well, Mr. Vere Mendez," Olivia began. "He is the reason I went to Zermatt that time. That time I was hoping to meet him for business purposes.

But I heard that he was no longer the owner of that company. He was in jail for killing his wife and his former in-laws, and now Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez owns the company."

Upon hearing this, Vere's anger and frustration welled up once again. The mention of his wife Mira's death and the fate of his company stirred a mix of emotions in him.

At that moment, Vere decided to respond to Olivia, "That's not true, Mr. Vere is innocent in the death of his wife. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time when it happened. As for Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez, they are greedy people who took over Mr. Vere's company in exchange for his release. One day I know that Mr. Vere will reclaim everything that rightfully belongs to him."

Olivia sensed Vere's anger and frustration in his words and asked, "Hey, Mr. Wayne, take it easy. It's not your life, so why do you seem so upset when talking about the Fuentez family? Do you know Mr. Vere Mendez? Are you friends or relatives?" Vere, realizing that he needed to conceal his true identity, quickly replied, "Oh, I'm sorry for that. I do know Mr. Vere; he was my childhood neighbor."

He hoped that this explanation would divert any suspicions.
