Chapter 38

It had been eight months since Vere underwent facial surgery, and he was finally amazed and flattered when he saw his new face. At that time, he was in the hospital with Olivia. Olivia counted to three and handed a mirror to Vere. "Oh, wow. Really, I can't believe this," Vere exclaimed when he saw his reflection in the mirror. "Is this really me?" he asked Olivia. "Yeah, it's you, Mr. Wayne, the new you," Olivia replied with a smile. She was delighted to see his reaction.

Vere's heart was filled with a mix of sadness and joy. As he laughed, tears welled up in his eyes. He had thought there was no hope left and that his luck had run out. Little did he know that the unfortunate accident and the person he had bumped into would bring him into a new, better life and a completely transformed personality.

However, despite his newfound appearance, Vere couldn't help but think about the events that had led him to this point. And now, with his new look, he had a new hope that anyone would have a hard time recognizing him.

Aren't you happy, Mr. Wayne? "I  am, yes, very happy, and what you've done is truly unbelievable, saving my life and my face," Vere replied. "No, Mr. Wayne, don't be sad and don't blame yourself for anything that happened. If there's someone to blame here, it's me. It's my responsibility to do this," Olivia said. "It's too much, Olivia," Vere protested. "No, it's not enough yet for me," Olivia responded with a happy smile.

On that same afternoon, after Vere had finished his shower, he stepped out of the room and was taken back by the eerie silence that enveloped the house. At that moment, Vere felt a mix of anxiety and curiosity, as he had become accustomed to the constant stream of unpleasant surprises in his life, and the memories of past traumatic experiences still haunted him. In situations like this, he knew that he had to stay alert.

So, Vere decided to make his way to Olivia's room and knocked on the door while calling out, "Olivia, are you there?" There was no response. Without wasting a second, he hurriedly descended the stairs and headed towards the garden to check if Olivia was outside.

As he approached the garden, his heart pounded in his chest. He was desperate to find Olivia and ensure that nothing untoward had happened.

The first day, Vere was surprised that Olivia wasn't around. He headed straight to the garden and was greeted by a pleasant surprise from Olivia and her friends. They all welcomed him to the "new you." Olivia celebrated the transformation in Vere, and they expressed their gratitude for his miraculous recovery from the accident. "Happy new you!" Olivia and her friends exclaimed. Vere, overwhelmed with emotion, said, "Oh, thank you so much for this, Olivia. It's too much." Mr. Wayne, ever humble, replied, "Don't thank me; thank God for all the miracles." The evening was filled with joy, and soon, cars arrived with food.

The celebration in Olivia's mansion extended into the night, and the guests eventually left after the celebration. Only Vere and Olivia remained in the mansion. As the night wore on and Olivia was drunk, Vere offered to help her to her room. "Olivia, you should rest now.

You are drunk and you need to rest," he said. Olivia, her speech slightly slurred, replied, "It's okay, Mr. Wayne, you're here to accompany me, right?" The night ended with Olivia being assisted by Vere to her room.

On that night, as Vere was sitting by Olivia's bedside, he initially intended to leave after making sure she was comfortable. However, Olivia unexpectedly pulled him toward her bed. "Mr. Wayne, please stay; don't leave me," Olivia pleaded. Vere, understanding her need for company, assured her, "Ah, Olivia, it's okay. I will stay.

Don't worry, shhh, please sleep now. I will be here." He couldn't refuse her request, so he stayed in her room. And he sat by Olivia's side as she drifted off to sleep, watching her beautiful face, which made him smile. However, in that moment, as he continued to gaze at Olivia, he couldn't help but be overwhelmed by memories of his late wife, Mira. He missed her dearly. He recalled the times they would lie together, and it brought tears to his eyes.

At that moment, Vere had drifted off to sleep by Olivia's side. But the following morning, when he woke up, he was taken aback to find Olivia missing from the bed. He looked around the room in surprise, but then his gaze shifted towards Olivia's bathroom.

Through the bathroom mirror, he unexpectedly saw Olivia showering, completely nude. Shocked by what he saw, Vere hurriedly got up from Olivia's bed and hastily left her room.

After a few minutes, as Vere was relaxing in his room, he suddenly heard a knock on the door and Olivia's voice calling out to him. Vere opened the door, and Olivia asked, "Why did you leave the room?" Vere replied, "Ah because I wanted to get some more sleep." Olivia then suggested, "You could have slept in my room." Vere smiled and said, "No, it's okay, Olivia. It's fine." Olivia extended an invitation, saying, "Come on, let's have breakfast, Mr. Wayne."

At that moment, Vere had no choice but to join Olivia for breakfast. As they ate, Olivia mentioned their plans to visit Zermatt, including a visit to her mansion, and they also planned to go to the company owned by Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez, the company that Vere owned before.

In Olivia's proposed plan, Vere readily agreed without hesitation. "Well, great, Olivia. So, I can also visit my place then," he said with enthusiasm. "Great! So, tomorrow, I'm going to call the agent to book a ticket to Zermatt," Olivia replied. At that moment, Vere fell into a brief silence, his thoughts seemingly distant. Finally, it seemed that he didn't have to hide or pretend any longer. Their upcoming visit to Zermatt meant that he could finally move forward with his plans to get closer to James. "Ah, Mr. Wayne, I'd like to appoint you as my personal assistant," Olivia announced. "And maybe you can meet Mr. James to discuss a business proposal." "James?" Vere asked. "Yes, Mr. James, who is in charge of Mr. Vere's Mendez company, which is now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Fuentez. Do you know him?" Olivia inquired. Vere replied, "Uhm, yeah, of course. Remember, before I had the accident, I worked there as a janitor?" "Oh, yes, I'm sorry, I forgot that you were," Olivia acknowledged. "So they'll be surprised to learn that you're no longer a janitor. And this time, you're my PA, Olivia's personal assistant."

"Yes, definitely, I am your PA, and I promise you won't regret hiring me as your personal assistant," Vere assured Olivia. He couldn't help but feel a twinge of annoyance when he heard James' name.

"Anyway, Olivia, may I excuse myself for a while? I need to go to my room," Vere requested. He then left for his room, deep in thought. He pondered the steps he needed to take to confront James, how to begin implementing his plan without Olivia discovering his true identity, and how to execute the phases of his plan that had been carefully hidden from her all along.
