Chapter 2

Liam was happy that his wife had shown up to the office, he looked at her with a smile on his face.

“Monica, you're finally here.” He brought out the papers and showed Monica. “Your assistant showed me this paper saying that you said you wanted a divorce. Like you would tell someone to break the news of divorce to me like this.”

Liam was looking at Monica, his wife was oddly quiet. “Mon, is anything wrong?”

Monica Potter had become Keston city's third-biggest businesswoman, she was different and there was nothing she couldn't do. But she had one problem, her husband was a nobody.

Liam Grayson was someone that the entire city didn't even know where he came from. They all knew that he was the one who made sure that he brought Monica her lunch and other things she needed.

He was nothing other than Monica's foot servant.

Monica looked at Liam, but she didn't say anything. After taking a deep breath she looked at Liam, with a cold look on her face.

“Why would you think that it's a joke?” Monica sounded a bit abrasive, She had a cold stare on Liam.

Liam stood there a bit confused, he had been married to her for the past five years and she had never sounded like that to him once.

“Monica is anything wrong? Did I do something to upset you? I don't understand why you are being so hostile.” Liam was lost, he wasn't sure that he could think of what he had done to make his wife angry.

Lisa let out an irritated sigh, “Of course, a clueless man like you won't know what is wrong here.”

Liam turned to look at her, he wasn't happy that she was interfering but he didn't want to say anything almost immediately.

“I mean look at you, only the heavens know where you borrowed this suit from to come here to embarrass Lady Monica.” Lisa kept saying things that irritated Liam, he had enough.

Liam turned to Lisa with a death stare, it was enough to make her shut up immediately. “I don't remember asking you that question, you should keep your mouth shut and make sure that there is nothing you will say that will be out of place.” Liam sounded cold and more like he was threatening Lisa.

Monica saw that he was getting angry by the minute, so she decided to intervene and make sure that nothing was going to happen.

“She is right Liam,” Monica said, Liam turned to look at her. He saw a disgusted look on her face, he was sure that there was no way he would be able to even get her to reason well anymore.

“You have been jobless for the past five years, I don't know when you will realize that I have become one of the city's biggest sensations. How do you think the people would feel if they should learn that my husband is a jobless bum?” Monica was not holding back any of her words, she wanted to make sure that she told him everything he needed to hear.

Liam was silent, he looked at Monica. A woman he had devoted the past five years of his life to, he made sure that she was loved and taken care of. He always made sure that nothing was going to make her feel uncomfortable.

Liam couldn't think or even say anything at the moment, his mind was racing with a thousand thoughts. He wanted to tell his wife everything, he had concluded that there was no need for him to keep secrets with her.

But this was not part of what he had imagined, he wanted to believe it was all a joke and there was something he was not seeing.

‘So it was worth nothing to you?” Liam asked in a low tone, he didn't raise his voice. He was looking at Monica, his demeanor was different. He had turned a bit cold and would not be joking around.

Monica saw Liam looking at her like that, it was the first time she had seen him do something like that. “You are asking me this question? Why would I joke with something like this, it is something that will spiral my life into the right path so I will not be wasting my time with someone like you. I will make sure that nothing is going to be tying you to me like that.”

Monica was not going to be thinking of her answer twice, she was not going to let anything hold her to Liam for that long anymore. Liam on the other hand was a bit shocked that his wife would say something like this to him.

“So after all I have done to make sure you were happy, this is how you repay me?” Liam looked at Monica, he was looking at her so she would say something to him and clear his doubt.

Monica giggled a bit, she was looking at him with pity embedded on his face. “You did nothing for me, I was the one working my butt off while your useless ass was at home doing nothing but take up the space in the mansion.” Monica turned her back on Liam, she was walking to her chair.

“I would have listened to my friends and got rid of you when I had the chance. I know I would have not been stuck with this senseless drama.” Monica said, she was looking at Liam as he stood there clenching his fists a bit.

Liam had gotten the answer he wanted, there was nothing he could do about it. He was not going to push the question further, he knew that it was going to cause trouble for him there.

“Fine then, I hope you don't regret this along the line, Monica.” Liam walked up to the table where he pulled out a pen from his pocket, he was not going to be holding her back from her dreams.

Liam signed the divorce papers, he wanted to plead with Monica to give it a thought but after hearing her words he knew that there was no way he would be able to talk to her.

“Regret it? This is the best thing you have ever done for me.” Monica puts her hand into her purse to pull out a check, “Here, this is a check for three million dollars, it should be enough to cover your stinking ass for a long time.”

Liam looked at the cheque in Monica’s hand and a smile formed on his face. “You just can't get over how rich you are now, can you Monica?” Liam asked a question looking at Monica, he was not going to say anything else.

“I don't need your money. It will stain my name and honor, I only need the bracelet I gave you on our wedding day and that would be all.” Liam was looking at Monica, he was not going to take the money from her.

Monica was shocked to hear Liam say something like that, she scoffed a bit. “Honor? What honor does a poor man like you have? Anyways I will give you the bracelet, at least you will not be laying your fingers on the money I worked my butt off for.”

Monica took off the bracelet and handed it to Liam, she was not going to let anything keep Liam there for long. “Here you go, I don't even see any value in the old thing anyway.”

Monica gave Liam the bracelet, Liam took it with a smile on his face. He put it into his pocket and then he looked at Monica.

“It was nice knowing you, Monica Potter,” Liam said before he turned his back to leave the room, Monica and Lisa were surprised that he didn't even ask for the money.

“He sure has a death sentence for not taking that money, who does he think he is acting like some kind of hotshot,” Lisa said as they watched Liam leave the room.

“Suits him,” Monica sat on her seat, she was happy. “I am finally free.”

**

Liam walked out of the room, and pulled out his phone. He was not going to be wasting time there. He dialed a number, he was not even sure he wanted to be anywhere close to anything related to Monica.

The phone rang for a while before it was picked up. “Lord Grayson, I am glad you called we were about to send the gifts to your wife for the anniversary.”

“Hold the gifts, Barry, don't send them,” Liam said with a bit of anger in his voice.

“Why sir? Is there a problem?” Barry asked on the other end sounding a bit worried.

“Nothing much Barry, my wife just wants a divorce and the papers have been signed. Please send one of the cars to come pick me up.”
