Rylan Daystar sighed as he gripped the door handle of Frederick’s office. He inhaled deeply before opening the door and stepping into the office. A wave of cold air brushed his cheek as he stood by the door. Frederick was closing a file that had engulfed his attention. As he placed the file by the side of his desk, he lifted his eyes and folded his hands on his desk. He smiled as he saw Rylan standing before him. Rylan looked like a mess. He looked terrible but that didn’t matter to Fredrick. This was the last time he was going to set his eyes on him.
“Rylan. Good morning, please have a seat,” he offered gently.Rylan was puzzled by his words. He was acting so nice which was weird to him. He sounded way different than when he was on the phone. He took a seat before Frederick looking at the desk. Underneath Frederick’s hands was a blue file. He wondered what it was. He looked up at Frederick and flashed him a smile.“It’s so good to see, Rylan,” Frederick said.“I don’t know if I feel the same way,” Rylan confessed.Frederick chuckled as he heard that.“Good one,” he said.“Why did you call me in?” Rylan asked, getting impatient. He had moved in with Tristan ever since he had been kicked out of the house and was sleeping on a futon. He wondered what could be worse than that.Frederick pulled his hands away from the file and opened it. Rylan got the file from him and scanned through it. The header of the file made his heart sink. He thought he was reading it wrongly, but the words were printed boldly for him to understand. He looked up at Frederick who was grinning from ear to ear. Rylan’s eyes fell back to the file, reading it once more.“What?!” He exclaimed.“I’m sure you understand the words printed there,” Frederick said.“Eve wants a divorce?” He asked. His eyes read through the documents and it was clear. He was confused. Why would Eve agree to this? He couldn’t believe this. He should have seen this coming. Tristan’s words rang in his ear. He was right.“Yes,” Frederick replied.Rylan looked up at him, his face livid with rage. He closed back the file and threw it on the desk. It was trash to him. He wasn’t going to go through with it.“I’m not going to sign it,” he said, holding his hands across his chest. “This isn’t Eve’s decision.”Frederick chuckled at his attitude.“I assure you it’s hers,” he said. “She wants this.”Rylan scoffed at his words.“There’s no way that Eve would go through with something like this,” he said. “I know her better than you do.”Frederick was bewildered.“You think so?” He asked.Rylan leaned forward with his hands folded across his chest, looking Frederick in his eyes.“I know so,” he replied coldly.Frederick stroked his chin slowly. This was all too amusing to him. Breaking the trust he had in Eve was going to be the best thing ever. He couldn’t wait to see the look on his face when he finally crushed that last bit of hope he had. Someone like Rylan didn’t deserve to have any left. He deserved whatever he was going to get.“Then I suggest you look at the document properly,” he said, pushing the file towards him.Rylan raised an eyebrow at his words. He reached for the file and opened it looking through it once more. His eyes came to the foot of the document and he found Eve’s signature on the dotted line. His heart sank and his hands trembled as he held the file.Impossible!Eve had signed the document. It was all surreal to Rylan. He closed the file and threw it back on the desk.“So you see Rylan?” Frederick said, leaning forward. “Nobody wants you. I’m glad Eve has finally seen the shithole that you are. Just sign the document and get this over with.”Rylan’s amber eyes were shaking as he raked his head for a solution. What should he do? He couldn’t go out like this. There was a possibility that Frederick and Karen had forced her to sign it. He wasn’t going to leave that easily. Rylan was going to stand his ground.“I’m not signing it,” he said.Frederick’s smile faded instantly and in a flash, his face became crowded with rage. He rose from his chair and stomped his hands on his desk.“What?!” He demanded.Rylan scoffed and leaned back on his chair with his hands still folded across his chest.“I’m not signing that document until I speak with Eve,” he said. “I want her to confirm this decision.”Frederick chuckled and sat back on his desk. He reached for the telephone on the right side of his desk and dialed a number.“Fine,” he said, placing the receiver on his ear.Rylan was confused by the tone he used.“Send her in, Martha,” Frederick ordered and placed the receiver down.He folded his hands on his desk and smiled. The door swung open a few moments later and a figure stepped in. Rylan swung his head backward and saw Eve standing by the door. She had a stern look on her face and a blue file in her hand. Rylan was relieved to see her. He rose from his chair and went to her.“Eve, I’m glad you’re here,” he said. “Your dad is trying to make me sign some divorce papers.”He attempted to hug her but she halted him with her hand. Rylan froze in confusion. He gazed at her in surprise.“Eve?” He called.“Sign the papers, Rylan,” she said, her voice cold as ice.Rylan couldn’t believe his ears. Eve was serious from the stern look on her face.“Huh?” He asked.“I don’t want anything to do with you, Rylan,” she replied. “Sign the papers and end this madness.”“Madness?” Rylan asked. “Baby. What are you talking about?”Eve handed the blue file to him. She had gotten it from Karen. She knew the truth about Rylan. She couldn’t believe she had been lied to all this time. He irritated her. Rylan got the file from Eve and went through it. His amber eyes lit up in shock. He closed the file and looked back at her.“This is a misunderstanding. I can explain,” he said.“You don’t need to,” she said. “You’re a liar, and that’s all that matters now.”Rylan felt his heart shatter into a thousand pieces as he heard that. He never knew that the sacrifices he made would end up being used against him. There was nothing he could do now. It was over. He sighed and walked back to the desk.Frederick opened the file happily and handed him a pen. Rylan got the pen slowly and pointed at it. He paused and looked up at Eve who was now standing by her father’s chair. Her blue eyes had no warmth left. They were cold and stony. He had lost his wife.“Sign it,” Frederick pressured.Rylan clenched his jaws and drew his signature on the dotted line. He dropped the pen on the desk and turned away.“Goodbye, Rylan,” Frederick said before laughing.***Rylan looked at the blue file in his hands as he stood in the parking lot of the building. He had lost everything. There was only one thing left for him to do. He reached into his pocket and brought out his phone dialing a familiar number. The phone rang only once.“Rylan?” A feminine voice called.“Yes, mom. It’s me,” he said. His eyes fell to the file in his hands once more.“I’m coming home.”“What changed your mind, Rylan?” Arlene Daystar asked. They were seated in the back of a tinted Cadillac as they drove back home. Rylan had arrived back in New York a few minutes ago, and already had a convoy waiting for him. Trust Arlene to overdo it. He felt like the prodigal son when he hugged his mother. This was the life he had left behind to be with Eve. This was the truth he couldn’t bring himself to tell her. This wasn’t the life that Rylan wanted. He had tried his best to run away from it. But here he was back at where it all began. “A lot,” Rylan said. Arlene sighed as she heard him. Rylan was different now. She had known something was up when he phoned her. She hadn’t heard from Rylan in two years. When Williams, their butler had told her it was Rylan, she had scrambled to her feet to get the phone from him. Hearing his voice again was satisfying. She was happy that he had changed his mind. As their mansion came into view, Rylan clenched his jaws. He didn’t fancy any of
“Revenge?” Arlene asked baffled. “Yes Mom,” Rylan replied, rising from his chair. Arlene looked at her son completely shocked. There was something different about him that was for sure. He was nothing like the Rylan she raised. What had happened to him? After being away for almost three years, he was back ready to take the wealth he had once rejected. “What happened to you, Rylan?” She asked. “Where were you all this time?”Rylan chuckled as he heard her words. He was pacing around the huge table with his hands behind him. A lot was going on in his mind. He was ready to get to work immediately. But he still felt it was too soon. He needed time to let everything settle. He had lost everything and also gained a lot from it. “I was learning,” he replied. Arlene looked at her son completely confused. He wasn’t making sense. “Learning?” She asked. “Yes,” Rylan replied stopping. He turned to her and leaned on one of the chairs. Arlene took a sit on one of the chairs. Rylan looked a
Rylan Daystar stepped out of the SUV and shut the door. He took off his shades and gazed at the mansion before him. The big doors spread open and Williams walked out of it making his way towards him. Rylan flashed a smile at him. “Young Master,” Williams said. “I’m glad you have returned.”Rylan nodded at him. “Thank you, Williams,” he appreciated. Williams headed to the trunk and lifted it, taking out his luggage. He walked back into the house leaving Rylan in the driveway. Rylan turned around and faced his surroundings. Being back in Los Angeles gave him a nostalgic feeling. As time flew without hesitation, it was already five years gone. Those years he had spent away were productive. It was time he got back what he had lost—his dignity. Rylan sighed and stepped into the house. He nodded his head as he looked around the large living room. He had bought the house a few days before he left. It looked spotless as he walked through it. Williams had managed to keep it clean while h
There was a huge crowd outside the event. It seemed to be packed with people and paparazzi. It was the biggest party in town that night and was being attended by big names. Amid the ruckus, a black Porsche approached the scene. The crowd gave it room and it halted in front of the red carpet. The door was lifted and a tall figure stepped out of the car. It was Rylan Daystar. He was dressed in a black suit which brought oh the amber glow in his eyes. His dark brown hair was combed back perfectly and it glittered courtesy of the flashes of the paparazzi’s cameras. Nobody seemed to recognize him but that didn’t matter. They couldn’t stop taking photos of the gorgeous man standing before them. A valet came towards Rylan and dropped his key into his hand. Rylan watched his car get driven away before stepping onto the red carpet. He was feeling confident. Tonight was the night he was going to make his first appearance as the billionaire entrepreneur, Rylan Daystar. He walked through the red
Frederick McCullough threw the lamp off his desk in rage. He watched the lamp roll across the floor gently heading towards the door. There were so many questions running through his mind. How was this possible? How did Rylan accumulate such an amount of wealth in a short span? It was almost impossible. Five years! It took him only five years to become richer than him. It was unbelievable. Frederick ran his fingers through his black hair in frustration. He was in a dilemma. What was he going to do about Rylan? He owned a major share in one of his most prized possessions. There was no way he could convince the other shareholders to make Rylan sell his share. Ever since Rylan had become the anonymous shareholder, the business had boomed. Ratings were off the charts and sales were increasing expeditiously. It was insane to think that Rylan could do something like that. He had always thought of Rylan as useless. Never for once did he know he could be that smart. There was a possibility he
“Stay away from me!” Dayton screamed as he ran away from a man pursuing him. The man who was dressed in black held a silver .45 Winchester magnum as he chased his victim. Dayton could feel his heart racing as he ran for his life. He realized quickly that there was no one coming to save him. This could be the last moments of his life. The man in black squeezed the trigger of the .45 magnum and the bullet whizzed past Dayton’s ear. Dayton turned back to the man and realized that he was closing in on him. He had to make as much distance as he could away from the man. Another shot was fired and this time, the bullet flew over his head. Dayton rushed towards the corner and disappeared into the darkness. The man in black saw this and headed after him. A few meters away, a black sedan was parked and a figure with a black mask inhabited the vehicle. He held the steering wheel with a pair of black gloves concealing his hands. He tapped the steering wheel impatiently and it seemed he was wait
“Partner?” Detective Rogers questioned. “Yes, Rogers?” Lieutenant Wesley said. “I’m sure you’ll do well to make her feel welcome.”“I didn’t ask for a partner, Lieutenant,” he pointed out. “I can take care of myself perfectly.”Lieutenant Wesley turned to Jain who seemed lost in the middle of everything. “Can you give us a minute, Reynolds?” He asked. Jain nodded and walked out of the door. Lieutenant Wesley rose from his desk and slammed both hands on his desk. “What the hell do you think you’re doing, Rogers?” He barked through his gritted teeth. “Lieutenant. I don’t need a partner,” Stanley pointed out. “I’ve been riding solo for two years now.”“Well, that’s over now. It’s either you get used to having someone watching your back or you get lost.”Stanley Rogers sighed. He needed a cigarette badly, but he couldn’t smoke in here. That would get on Lieutenant Wesley’s nerves. “Fine.”“What? I didn’t get that.”Stanley knew that Lieutenant Wesley had heard him perfectly. He was
Dayton Veeschoris was happy when he arrived at the lobby of his apartment floor in one piece. Every day seemed to be his last lately. Ever since that night he almost got killed, he had always watched his back and made sure he didn’t do anything stupid. He was hiding from them, and he knew they would come after him soon. Nobody could escape them. They had hired a hitman and Dayton had thought that night would be his last. It was supposed to be his last. He felt queasy about the fact that he had cheated death. A cat meowed from the window and it startled him. Dayton turned around and the cat jumped out of the window. He shook his head and moved towards his door. It was just a few doors away. As he made his way towards it, the door beside him swung open, and an elderly woman stepped out of it. He knew her too well. She was his neighbor, Deborah Mannon. A cat came out of the door and sat at her foot. It had gray fur with black stripes decorating it. “Good evening, Mrs. Mannon,” Dayton g
