THE PLOT

Jakes felt a little nervous when he saw them, but when he remembered his identity, he summoned the courage to face them.

"Good day my in-laws." Jakes greeted Mrs Allison and Micheal. "What is good about the day?... Liam! Liam!!" Mrs Allison called angrily.

"Yes, Boss!" Liam responded from inside one of the rooms in the house.

"Come over quickly!"

In no time, Liam walked into the sitting room. He looked very huge and tall with a scary look on his face.

"This fool here is Stephanie's husband. Lock him up in the darkroom."

"What?!" Jakes was surprised at Mrs Allison's instructions.

"I came here to look for my wife. I was told that she's here, and the next thing you want to do to me is to lock me up. You can't be serious."

"I'm more than serious. Liam, what are you staring at? Bundle him up and lock him!" Mrs Allison commanded.

"Okay, Boss," Liam replied as he rushed towards Jakes and tied his hands. Jakes was surprised at what was happening.

"Leave me!" Jakes cried, trying to stop the man. When Liam saw how much he struggled with him, he slapped Jakes on the face and dragged him up the stairs, down a very wide corridor, until they stopped in front of a room. The man opened the door of a room and pushed Jakes inside.

The room was so dark that no one could see any of the things inside. Jakes did not know what part of the room he was in, even though it was daytime. All he knew was that his feet were on the ground. Jakes was now enveloped in fear because of the darkness.

"This is where you'll be, you bastard!" Liam yelled at him, as he pushed him to the ground, and tied his hands and legs with a strong rope, then he walked out of the room, and locked the door behind him.

Liam walked to the living room and met Mrs Allison sitting on one of the sitting room sofas.

"I've locked him up, Boss," Liam informed.

"Good. I'll handle him."

After a while, Stephanie's voice was heard. It was so loud that Jakes heard her voice in the room where he was locked up.

"Ha..... Just leave me! Let me go! Why are you so heartless?!" Stephanie shouted.

"So, she's truly here. What are they doing to her? Where in this house is she?" Several questions crossed Jakes's mind. He sensed danger due to what he just heard. And he was now desperate to help his wife. He tried to lose the rope on his hands and legs so that he could escape from the dark room. While trying to do that, he heard another voice.

"I'll kill you if you don't marry that rich man. You're of no relevance to your family if you don't marry him." the male voice said. The voice sounded hoarse and unfriendly.

Jakes could hear them clearly, because the darkroom was not far from where Stephanie was locked up.

"Rich man? What rich man is that man referring to, and what is being done to her? Was Stephanie kidnapped by her family?" Jakes was now very bothered. He remembered the call he received some days ago about someone telling him that his wife was getting married to a rich man.

While he was still lost in thoughts, he had a sound on the door, like someone trying to insert a key into the door hole. Within the twinkling of an eye, the door flung open and someone walked in.

Within a short while, Jakes felt a punch on his back, and before he could look up, the person slapped his face and hit his head against the wall.

"You're the reason why Stephanie has refused to marry Mr Cameron. She has proved so stubborn! You see, if she does not agree to Mr Cameron's proposal latest by this time tomorrow, I'll make sure you pay with your life." The man said, without giving Jakes a chance to speak, as he walked out of the room.

"Get me out of here!" Jakes shouted as he tried to free his hands from the rope, but he found it very difficult. He was now very desperate to get out of the room, to save his wife.

"What can I do to get out of here?" Jakes thought to himself.

*****

It was a bright Wednesday morning and Mrs Allison was dressed for work and was about to step out of the house when she heard her phone ring. She picked up her phone from her bag and checked the screen to see who it was. It was Pat. Pat was Mrs Allison's assistant at "The Class of Verity." Mrs Allison wondered what information Pat wanted to pass across to her that couldn't wait until she arrived at the office.

"Good morning Madam," Pat said.

"Good morning."

"We received a document from The Hobbits Investments early this morning. When I checked what was in the document, I found a letter that read that the company will be sold out this weekend, if its outstanding debts are not paid off by tomorrow morning."

"Really?! They can't be serious. I'll be in the office in a few minutes." Mrs Allison informed.

"No. This can't be." Mrs Allison said to herself.

In no time, she heard her phone ring again. It was Michael.

"Hello, Michael. What's the matter?"

"Mum, I just confirmed that a representative from The Hobbits Investments visited the company this morning. I also learnt that they brought along three young men, suspected to be intending buyers, to inspect the Company."

"Oh my goodness! Pat just called me a few minutes ago to tell me about the letter they dropped behind." Mrs Allison said.

"We have to do something quick about this! Mr Cameron has obliged to save the company from its debts and to give the family other tangible investments if Stephanie agrees to his proposal.

If Stephanie does not agree to his proposal by the weekend, it's unfortunate that The Class of Verity may be sold out, because, right now, we have no other way out of this mess." Michael said.

"Yes. We must see to it that she agrees to Mr Cameron's proposal this time. Because, if she does not, we would make sure her husband dies because of this! At least, she would marry Mr Cameron if her husband is dead." Mrs Allison said as she hung up the phone.
