Chapter 8.

Mark settled in in his new office after his manager showed him around and helped him settle in. He left Mark all alone to arrange the office to his taste in case it wasn't arranged as he wanted.

Mark was still on it when one of the workers barged into his office without knocking and immediately he knew the person would be a trouble marker and might be his problem here in the office.

"Hey newbie, what are you doing?" He asked Mark as he hung around the door.

Mark turned to look at him, he was a young man in his early thirties and he reasoned that he might be one of those friendly workers who like making friends.

"I'm rearranging my office. I didn't like how it was arranged," Mark said and pushed the desk to the position he loved.

"Don't you think you are wasting your time? Is it necessary?" The man asked him which made Mark look at him before he turned away with a slight smile on his lips.

"Of Course, it is because anyone would do it, including you. Imagine you starting new in another company and you are being given an office in which you don't like how the interior was arranged. Wouldn't you do something about it," Mark asked him as he stood up and walked towards where he abandoned the office chair.

He grabbed it and carried it to the new place he placed the desk.

"I would but wouldn't here because it used to be my office," the man voiced out.

"I was the one who arranged it the way you saw it," he added.

"Oh, you are Mr. Davis, the former director of the marketing department. I can now relate and know why you are saying all this. I'm sorry but since this is my new office, I have to rearrange it," Mark said to him.

"I know but I wanna ask, do you think you can handle this position? Do you even know what marketing is all about? How busy the director in charge is and how stressful it can be. I mean you also have to be extremely careful with everything so a slight mistake here wouldn't cause the company loss because this is one of the important places that hold the company," the man who Mark identified as Mr. Davis said.

Mark listened keenly to him, he seems like someone who loves the company because if he doesn't, he wouldn't bear saying all this to Mark to make Mark know what he was getting involved with.

"I appreciate you so much Mr. Davis, thank you for saying all this. It would make me more serious than ever as I have known that my position in the company isn't a joke and should be taken seriously," Mark replied with a smile and immediately Mr. Davis's countenance changed.

He was trying to scare Mark and make him think that the position would be a big deal for him so that he would back off and then the manager would ask him to take back the position but it seems like Mark wasn't ready nor the type to do so.

"Just be careful and keep making everyone happy and proud. My eyes are on you," Mr. Davis said and turned to leave.

On the way to his office, he sulked like a child. He couldn't still point out why the manager removed him. He was good, no doubt, and the company has been doing okay too when he was the director of the marketing department. He was trying to know the reason why the manager would remove him and put in a new person whose physical appearance isn't even worth it.

He looks poorly educated and rather unfit for the position. He gritted his teeth at his new office in the finance department. He didn't even care to reply to any of the workers who were greeting him on his way back to his office.

He felt like squeezing Mark alive as he thinks he is prideful and full of himself. He would never watch him have that position in peace, he said to himself.

"I must work towards getting him removed. I have to show the manager how incapable he is which would make the manager remove him, he concluded and got into his office.

Shortly his personal Assistant walked in.

"Sir, you have a meeting with the financial team. Where should I set it up?" She asked.

"I'm not interested," Mr. Davis replied.

"But sir, it's an important one which you asked me to convey to the team about how important the meeting is this morning," his personal Assistant replied.

"I said I'm no longer interested. Can't it be held some other time, is it a must that it would be held today? Now go tell them it has been postponed. Don't forget to get me a cup of coffee and snacks," Mr. Davis said and relaxed on his office chair.

"Yes sir," his personal Assistant replied and walked out.

"Hey man, I overheard you passing aggression on your personal assistant, is there anything wrong with you or bothering you?" Mr. Ben, his only buddy in the company, asked as he came in.

"Hey," he called back before saying.

"A lot, I'm disturbed and don't like my new position. It was bossier over there," Mr. Davis said to Ben.

"You mean your former position?" He asked.

"Of course," Mr. Davis replied.

"But it has been occupied already. Why worry about it, do you know how much benefit you would get here? Since I came to this company, this position you are in now has been my target," Mr. Ben said.

"What do you mean?" Mr. Davis asked him.

He walked closer and whispered some words into Mr. Davis' ears which made him gasp in shock before his expression changed to that of happiness.

"That's why I like you, you are so wise," Mr. Davis Ben.

"That's why I will always be here and don't forget who brought the idea when it starts working for you," Mr. Ben said.

"Sure," Mr. Davis replied. He waved him goodbye as he left.

His personal Assistant walked in and handed the coffee over to him.

"Thank you," he said and took it. His personal Assistant bowed and quickly left.

"Smart buddy, why hasn't this occurred to me since, I would have already set up plans. I was busy sulking over my lost former position. Don't worry Mr. Mark, either way, I'm going to deal with you," he said with an evil grin.

Mark was already done with arranging his office. He sat down and started glancing through the documents on his desk to familiarize himself with them. While on it, one of his colleagues came in.

They exchanged pleasantries before he handed him a cup of coffee.

"Welcome to our company Mr. Mark, we hope that you take us to greater heights," the man said.

"Of course, I will do my best," Mark promised with a smile as he took the coffee from the young man.

"I'm Matthew, nice to meet you," the young man introduced.

"I guess you already know my name, it's also nice to meet you too," Mark said as they shook hands.
