Emma’s Escape

The night was silent, the only sound being Emma’s quiet movements as she packed a small bag for herself and Lila. Her hands trembled as she folded clothes, each one placed carefully, but with the haste of someone desperate to get out before it was too late. Her heart raced, her mind replaying the events of the past few days. The lies, the secrecy, the way Victor had shut her out.

"I can’t stay here," she whispered to herself, glancing toward the door, half expecting Victor to burst in at any moment. But the house remained still, the shadows long in the dim light of the lamp beside her.

Lila was asleep in the other room, her soft breathing a small comfort amidst the storm raging inside Emma. She had to do this. For Lila. For herself. She couldn’t live in uncertainty any longer, couldn’t live with the constant doubt that Victor was hiding something that could destroy them.
