Victor stood by the large window in the mansion’s drawing room, gazing out, his face impassive, hiding the storm of emotions beneath. Behind him, Maria and Grandpa Ben lingered, wrapped in an awkward silence. It was Maria who finally broke it, her voice soft, trembling.

“Victor…” Her voice carried years of regret, a tone he hadn’t heard from her before. He didn’t turn around, his shoulders stiffening.

“What is it, Maria?”

“I… I owe you an apology,” she said, her words barely above a whisper. Victor slowly turned to face her, his expression unreadable.

“An apology?” He watched her nod, her face drawn with pain.

“Yes. For everything, for how I treated you, the way I tried to keep you and Emma apart. I see now how wrong I was. I let my pride and my jealousy… cloud my judgment, and I hurt you. I hurt everyone.”
