The Trap

The days after the banquet were torturous for Victor. The cold way Emma had walked away, the pain in her eyes, it haunted him. He had made a terrible mistake by staying silent, by doubting her when she needed him most. Now, every attempt to reach her was met with a wall of silence.

He found himself standing outside her door, knocking softly. "Please, just talk to me. I know I messed up, but I need to make this right."

But Emma’s voice was icy when she finally answered, not bothering to open the door. "There's nothing to say. You showed me where I stand. Leave."

The words cut deep, but Victor couldn’t give up. He was desperate to win her back, to explain himself. But no matter what he did, she wouldn’t give him a chance.
