"The Reckoning"

Emma paced back and forth, the tension in the air between her and Victor palpable. The weight of everything they’d just survived hung heavy, but now Victor’s mind was set on something else. Something she thought they’d left in the past.

“Victor, it was years ago,” Emma said, her voice pleading but firm. “What’s done is done. There’s no point digging up old graves with your grandfather. We’ve survived worse. Just leave it.”

Victor’s jaw clenched, his eyes burning with the fire she knew all too well. “No, Emma. I can’t just forget it. He needs to answer for what he did. For forcing me into that sham of a marriage with Maria, for treating me like some disposable pawn.”

Emma’s heart ached at the frustration in his voice, but she shook her head, trying to stay calm. “Victor, going back there now… it’s just going to reopen wounds. He’ll only make it worse.”
