Shadows of the Past

Victor leaned against his desk, his chest still heaving slightly from the intensity of the kiss with Emma. Their momentary victory over Maria and Daniel had given them a sense of accomplishment, but deep down, both knew that today’s battle was just the beginning. The shadows of their pasts were always lurking, threatening to pull them apart if they weren’t careful.

Emma rested her head on Victor’s shoulder, her mind still buzzing from the confrontation earlier. “She’s not going to give up, is she?” she whispered, more to herself than him.

Victor sighed, his hand brushing through her hair. “Maria’s always been relentless. But we’ve handled worse, and we’ll handle her too.”

Emma nodded, trying to convince herself that everything would be fine. But just as the words settled between them, there was a knock on the door, cutting through the silence like a blade.

“Come in,” Victor called, his voice laced with annoyance.
