Clay looked around as soon as she had stepped out of the room that they had never noticed before the collapse.

The room had been located underneath the stairs, why had they not thought to ever check what was underneath the stairs too?

It was. It like the stairs were so small or insignificant that they did not draw attention to what could be beneath them.

They simply did not care to check for things they were not missing.
