Chapter 129

“Hello,” Richardson smiled when he entered the restaurant to see Jennie already seated at the table. “I’m sorry for being terribly late.”

“Work?” she smiled at him as he dropped his jacket on the back of the chair, settling into it.

“Traffic,” he corrected. This was the distraction he needed to get his mind off work and the murder which had occurred the other day. He was still shaken but he had to move forward instead of dwelling on the past.

“You look… different,” she noted. “Is anything the matter?”

He could not tell her about work or what had happened with the mafia. Everything ate him up inside for the only one who knew about them both was Tom. It was none of her concern he thought to himself.

“I’m stressed out. Don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine.”

“Well isn’t it Richardson?” someone laughed as Richardson turned to see who had called him out. It was Fred, a bully from college.
