“What happened to you?” he asked, pointing to her dress as he picked up his trousers to wear.

She waved it off as if it was nothing. Alice didn’t want to tell him about it being from Richardson. He would start to suspect that she was having an affair with the man and start to speculate that the mess on her dress was a cover up.
