Chapter 38

He looked around to see some people around the park giving him the look of awe and respect. When he was poor and had nothing, all he got were hisses and looks of disgust.

It was different now.

He wondered what would have been his fate if his grandfather had not found him in jail. Maybe he could have been killed and his mother dead.

Those thoughts made him shiver, creating visible goosebumps under the lit street lamp.

“Are you cold?” Jennie asked in concern, noticing the bumps on his skin. “You seem cold.”

He rubbed his hands together, putting them to his mouth to blow hot air into his open palms before dropping them down to his knees.

“I’m alright,” he smiled at the woman.

The park had children from the hospital playing in it. Their parents watching them in awe in their seats. A thought creeped up in his mind as he shut it down.

“Can you dance?” he asked, taking her unawares.

“What?”

“Can you…?”

“I heard you the first time, I’m just…” she stopped, taking in deep and labored brea
