"You piece of shit! Get out of this house!"
"Dogs like you deserve to live in the street until the ends of your life,"
"Mark my words, you are nothing without this family's name. You are nothing but a curse!"
…
Evan stood on the sidewalk with a lighter in hand in front of the hotel. His clothes were wet by the drizzle that fell from the dark sky.
His deep blue eyes stared at the empty streets as he took out another cigarette and lit it with the lighter.
"It has been long but yet I haven't gotten over those words she said," He muttered as he stood there memorizing the hurtful words his mother-in-law had said to him, the day she sent him out of the house.
He took a deep drag of the cigarette letting the smoke escape his lips in a long, and slow exhale. Three years ago, he was brought to San Francisco without much information about the city and as such he had a flash marriage with his wife, Christel.
It was supposed to be one filled with love and happiness since her grandfather approved of it but because of her greedy and overprotective mother, their marriage couldn't last long enough, and a year ago after her grandpa's death, her mother filed for a divorce when she saw that he didn't have any internal support anymore.
"Sir, you don't have to stay out here when it's drizzling and most importantly when you have a speech today," A tall young man with dark blonde hair walked towards him with an umbrella in hand and then held it out for him. Evan stared at him for a while then stared back at the street.
"What are you doing here, William?" He asked. The young man beside him was William Greyfind, one of the most capable subordinates he had in the Vertice Capital and a loyal one at that.
"Huh?" William flashed him a confused look and soon he quickly realized that his boss must have forgotten what today was to him.
"Sir, have you forgotten that Vertice Capital is about to launch its first investment in San Francisco today? Many businessmen and women will come over today to try and get a seat at the high table and…" He said with a calm and collected look on his face but when he got to the last part, he stopped and stared at Evan with a conflicted expression.
"And what?" Evan frowned.
"And your wife and mother-in-law will be here tonight sir," He answered and Evan's body stiffened then loosened up. He took a deep drag of the cigarette one last time before he threw it on the floor and made his way to the hotel.
"Tell the others to be in position. We have to tighten the security to prevent any scene," He ordered coldly as he opened the door and walked inside the hotel.
William quickly took out his phone and sent some messages before he shoved it back into his pocket and went after his boss.
Evan made his way to the reception and showed her his card. She quickly stood up and welcomed him inside.
The hotel which was among the top 3 best hotels in San Francisco and has always been the best choice for most dignitaries had been purchased by the VP. No one knew what he was thinking but he made it known that this banquet was to welcome their coming by the mayor.
Such people had no other choice than to express their excitement, sadness, and jealousy.
Evan didn't bat an eyelid at this and instead, he made a turn to the left and entered the banquet hall that had guests already.
He noticed how nervous and excited everyone was and from the corner of his eyes he saw the VP shake hands with someone then they walked away.
"It's just a few hours before the banquet hold and yet I haven't collected myself," A young woman in a blue dress said to her friend as she looked around as though she was searching for someone.
"Calm down Bella, the Vertice Capital members will be here before then. I am sure we would be able to get a spot in their company," Her friend replied then chewed on a snack.
"I can't wait,"...
…
Evan stood at a corner in the banquet with a disinterested look on his face. He noticed how well dressed and composed everyone was, then looked around as though he was searching for something but soon a waitress walked over with a buffet and served it to him.
"Enjoy sir," She bowed slightly then left the place. Evan stood there enjoying his buffet when suddenly he stopped as a cold and familiar voice sounded in his ears.
"Oh, my world. Who is this?" Her sharp crispy voice sounded beside him and he slowly turned towards the direction with a deep frown on his face.
"Mother-in-law?" He muttered and she stood in front of him with a cold look on her face.
"How many times have I told you not to call me that? Oh my, is that why you came here? You thought that I would accept you just because people are around here?" She laughed out loud and then turned to the woman behind her.
She had long silky black hair and hazel eyes. She appeared to be nervous and when she saw her mother's cold gaze she lowered her head_seeing this, her mother couldn't help but sneer coldly and looked away.
"What are you doing here? Don't tell me you came here to see my daughter," She asked.
Evan stared at her then looked at her daughter whom he once called his wife then back at his mother-in-law.
"I came here to deal with some personal affairs," He replied in a simple tone. His voice was cold and his eyes were void of any emotions. It felt as though this one year he spent away from them had made him an emotionless and ruthless man.
But, the elderly woman before him didn't notice that as she was blinded by rage.
"Personal affairs my foot! Ha! Did you think I am a fool?" She sneered coldly then looked around in search of securities.
"You don't have to believe me. At least Grandpa knows the very reason I am here. I am paying homage to the man who once stood by me when I was nothing. The man who consoled me and told me everything would be fine… this is me paying him my respect," He coldly replied.
"Don't you dare call that man's name from your mouth. You are not a part of our family anymore, in fact, you never were… so drop your fake act and leave this place!" She yelled angrily at him.
She has already lost it!
All the guest's heads turned in her direction with confused looks on their faces and when they saw Elvan and the young lady beside the woman, they quickly got the gist of the situation.
"Ah, he must be the son-in-law of this family. How unfortunate for them to have this type of person… just take a look at his clothes, look how cheap and wet they are." An elderly man shook his head with a look of disdain evident in his eyes.
"Don't tell me he came to this event on foot even when it's drizzling outside," Another gasped and soon everyone was whispering and discussing the situation.
"He must be a well-known belittled son-in-law… maybe that's why his mother-in-law wanted him out of this place,"
…
Evan noticed that he was the center of attention but he didn't say a word and instead turned towards the woman.
"You don't tell me what to do,"
"What did you just say?" Her harsh voice echoed in the hall as she glared at Evan. Christel stared at her mum with a look of discomfort on her face."Mum, you shouldn't be doing this here, please." She said through gritted teeth and her mum turned towards her with a murderous gaze."Do not speak," She clenched her teeth tightly then closed her eyes and exhaled lightly."As I was saying… You must leave this place. You do not belong here and you shall never be among the noble class. Who knows if the reason you are here is because some old man decided to hire you as his errand boy," She smirked then walked towards Evan with disgust in her eyes."I've given you enough time to sign those divorce papers and if you don't sign them." She threatened then backed away, "Who knows if the street can still be your home," "Mum!" Christel frowned then flashed an apologetic look at her husband. Her mother had crossed the line and she couldn't stand it anymore but even If she wanted her husband to be
A quiet mansion stood under the dark clouds as the trees around the mansion swayed by the wind, but unlike how quiet it looked on the surface it couldn't be said for the inside."Damn it! Had he not shown his disgraceful self in that hall? I am sure the mayor would have introduced me to the CEO of Vertice Capital," Mrs. Bertha snapped angrily as she kept pacing around the room.Christel stared at her mum with an embarrassed look on her face but she didn't say a word."So are you trying to say that Evan was the reason why you got kicked out of the banquet?" Nathan asked, he was Christel's eldest cousin. The other family members gathered in the room all frowned on hearing this and they stared at Mrs Bertha demanding an explanation."I didn't know it would lead to that. I thought the mayor would side with me and send the lowlife out of the place. I didn't know it would be the opposite," She coldly replied then stopped pacing around and faced the people in the room."What do you plan to
"Since my daughter already agreed to go out with you. I think everything's settled then," Mrs. Bertha chuckled lightly and sent a spiteful glare at Evan.Evan stared at Christel with an unreasonable expression on his face then he faced Mrs. Bertha. "I received your call. Did something happen?" He asked calmly.Harry's eyes widened in shock at Evan's temperament. He thought Even would blow up and fall on his knees begging for Christel's attention.Christel on the other hand was a little disappointed. 'I thought he would stop me. Had he held my hands and told me to stop, I'll do so, but why? Has he moved on after the incident?' She thought with a saddened expression on her face."Oh, that reminds me. Something urgent came up and we need you to do some little family favor for us," Mrs. Bertha smiled slightly then turned and headed towards the room.Evan frowned on seeing this but he still followed closely behind her."I'll walk Harry out mum," Christel announced then left with Harry.E
In the outskirts of Santo City. A black BMW drove slowly inside the compound of a grandiloquent building that had seven stars proudly imprinted at the top of the building.Harry, Jane, Christel, and Mrs. Bertha stepped out of the car and stared at the building before them.“So this is the infamous seven-star hotel. I never thought I'd get to visit this place one day, not to talk about having lunch here,” Jane laughed out loud then stared at her elder sister, Christel.“Let's go, there's still more to show you,” Harry urged then led the way for them. He had promised to take Christel out for lunch and seeing this Jane decided to follow suit.Just as they got inside the elevator and were about to close it a familiar figure appeared before them.‘'What is he doing here?’ Harry's pupils shrank slightly as the familiar figure walked inside the elevator with a calm look on his face.'What is this ungrateful man doing here? Is he by chance stalking my daughter? That's so disgusting of him,’’
“What are you waiting for, punk?” Harry yelled angrily and faced Justin to try and ask him to call the security when he froze on the spot as he noticed how breet red his uncle's face was.“What's going on, uncle? Are you feeling sick? Do you have a fever?” He muttered as he tried to check up on him but Justin lost it and sent a slap at him.“You are the one that is sick! Get out of here before I send you to jail, you moron!” He cursed angrily then quickly turned towards Evan shaking profusely.“What? Uncle what are you doing?” Harry frowned. He ignored the stinging pain on his left cheek as he was confused with what his uncle was doing. He was about to say something when he suddenly noticed something admiss. He frowned and turned towards the other families only to see how red their faces were…. They were furious!“You little punk! Did you lose home training in your previous life?” The mayor boomed.“Get this brat out of here before I lost it,” He added. He was already sweating profuse
Time flew by in a flash and soon it was morning. Evan jogged his way to the park by the river to calm himself. He looked around and noticed how desolated it was.“This place had been abandoned for as long as I can remember,” he muttered as he took a seat beside the river. He crossed his legs and sat there with his eyes closed, listening to the calm of the river and the whispers of the wind. What he was about to do was cultivating. He started this when he was six years old and always does it every morning and along with his great talent his cultivation speed differs from that of his peers.‘Shut all senses and listen to the energy from the heavens and earth,’’ He thought, then took a deep breath and released it and soon it felt like a soft glow surrounded him.The trees stopped swaying and the river turned extremely still and quiet. It suddenly felt as though he was isolated from the world and was in his own small world created for him.He took in deep breaths then sent out his senses
“Hun?” Vera gasped then hurriedly went back to pack her loots.“I thought you weren't coming over to pick me up, so why are you here?” She pouted as she held a golden necklace and raised it in the air to have a clear view of it.“This is real gold,” She then smirked at the naked man in the hall. “Thank you for this. You are so generous,”The man lowered his head in shame as he didn't have the courage to look at her. He brought this upon himself and now he must endure the shame.Evan stared at the man for a while then faced Vera. “I thought you promised that you wouldn't make any problem?” “Ah… No,” Vera gasped then ran towards him. She clasped her hands tightly together then pouted.“He challenged me for a bet and I won. Had it been that I lost, I would have been the one who will stay here half naked,” She poured cutely and her cat-like eyes turned teary.“What a fake,” Claus scoffed. He knew better than anyone that such cheap baby tricks don't work on Evan, unless he wants to preten
Evan's gaze hardened slightly and he slowly looked behind Vera, only to see Jane standing there with an ugly expression.“Oh my eyes. I thought this place was meant solely for shopping? When did it turn to a hypocritical show place?” She sneered coldly, her eyes eying Vera who was still in Evan's embrace.Evan's gaze never left her and one could see the amount of disgust they held towards her. He was about to leave but noticed Christel and Harry behind her.“What's going on?” Harry gasped. Christel's gaze fixed on Vera who's back was faced towards them, then she stared at Evan. She gazed coldly at him but didn't say a word.Evan noticed this then patted Vera's head lightly, “You can let go now, Vera,” He said.Vera frowned but still let go of him. She grumbled and was about to yell at the intruder when she suddenly paused and sized Jane up and down.“Who's this?” She frowned. She tilted her head sideways and was stunned by the beauty behind Jane.“Evan, do you know that lady over the
