I did it for my grandson.
Zachary's heart skipped for a bit as he exited the restaurant in a haste leaving the other workers flabbergasted. He would have the manager to contend with as he did not inform him before leaving. As he stepped out to hail a cab, a Hyundai car pulled over before him and the occupants was none other than Emily and Duncan.
The seems to be like glue, always sticking together.
Stepping down from the car, Emily approached Zachary who walked away to hail a cab but unfortunately for him, no vehicles were stopping for him.
Fate seems to be against him today.
First, his father had been rushed to the hospital, now it was Emily before him and no cab was stopping for him to get away from her taunts.
Pretending not to notice her, Emily got to where he was to insult him as usual with Duncan following behind.
"Look who we bumped into Duncan, Same old Zach. Still poor and wretched." Emily scoffed and Duncan responded with a mocking smile.
Zachary just stared at them indifferently. Five years had already passed and these two would take every slightest chance to insult him.
'If he would ever get the opportunity to be in a better position, these two would especially face his wrath.' Zachary thought to himself.
"I feel sick each time I see your face Zach and just wish to stop bumping into a loser like you."
"Yeah." Duncan replied. "I think we should not waste any of our time with this lowlife. He is so broke that even his shoes are begging for a change." They both looked down on Zachary's old shoes and laughed scornfully.
Going back to their car, Emily threw a five dollar note at him and zoomed off her car.
It was when his oppressors left that he was able to get a taxi. Heaving a sigh, he quickly boarded the cab for St. Michael's emergency care.

At St. Michael's emergency care, an old man was sitting at the reception. He seemed to be waiting for someone. Staring at his wrist watch, he stood up and paced around. There were some mean looking men in black who stood at different angles in the hospital and everyone was wondering who they were.
On sighting a young man approaching the reception, they assumed he was the person they had been waiting for but needed confirmation first.
Zachary soon reached the reception. Meeting the nurse in charge, Zachary inquired.
"Hello Nurse, My grandfather was rushed in here earlier. May I know where I can find her?"
"Please may I know what his name is?" The nurse asked, going through some files.
"Nathan Gabriel. I'm Zachary Gabriel, his grandson."
The old man suddenly approached Zachary on overhearing the discussion with the nurse.
"Zachary Gabriel?"
Zachary heard an old man call out to him. He wondered how the man was able to know his name.
"I'm Zachary Sir, but who are you and how did you know my name?"
The old man smiled at the inquisitive young man.
"My name is Kelvin Paddington, I called you earlier to inform you about your grandfather."
Zachary's face brightened up in appreciation. " Thank you so much for your help Sir. I really appreciate."
"Come with me."
Kelvin took Zachary to the room where his grandfather was admitted.
Lying on the hospital bed, Nathan looked so weak. He had been booked for an operation, so all Zachary had to do was to sign the consent form.
Kelvin came just in time to pay for the surgery.
Zachary shot a gloomy face towards his ailing father. He sat beside him taking his hands into his.
He opened his mouth to speak, but didn't know what to actually say. He was so weak and helpless. His grandfather had done everything he could to take care of him. Now that it was Zachary's turn to care for his grandfather, he seemed to be helpless without money.
"I'm so sorry Grandpa, I've not been able to get the money for your surgery." He said in a frustrated tone, with his face bowing.
Nathan reached for his face and lifted it up with a smile.
"You don't have to worry about that son."
Nathan directed his gaze towards Kelvin and said. " Mr. Paddington here has sorted out the bill."
Standing close to the door, Kelvin watched the emotional moment between a grandfather and his grandson. He admired their relationship.
'If only he could be this close to his son.' He thought.
Turning towards the man standing at the door, Zachary fell to floor in appreciation.
"Thank you Sir."
Kelvin smiled and helped him up. "You don't have to thank me. I did it for my Grandson."
"Grandson?"
Zachary narrowed his gaze and his mouth fell apart in astonishment.
"Your Grandson, what do you mean by that Sir?" He gave both Kelvin and his grandfather a puzzled look and they both smiled to his confused state.
Nathan looked at Kelvin and nodded his head. He wanted Kelvin to explain things to Zachary.
Although, knowing the kind of grandson Zachary was, he has a lot of explaining to do to him after the surgery. That if he would survive it.
Going closer to meet Zachary, Kelvin placed his hands on his shoulders and said.
"It's a long story, son. But for now, let's focus on your grandfather's Surgery.
Zachary was without a word.
He stared intently at the man in disbelief. 'There was no way that this man would be his grandfather.' He thought.
He was now making sense out of everything.
'Paddington.' The name sounded so familiar. He was in a state of dilemma when Kelvin first told him his name. He did not really pay much attention or try to figure out where he had heard that name before.
Now it was clearer to him, the man is the richest man in Texas. And if this man was indeed his grandfather, he was definitely rich.
The thought made him smile inwardly.
Emily, her father and Duncan won't make mockery of him anymore now that he has realized how wealthy his grandfather is.
'They better brace themselves up for what's coming to them. Especially if they work in one of his grandfather's companies.' Zachary thought.
Even though he was a bit angry that he had to go through so much pain and suffering in his life when grandfather was this wealthy. Nevertheless, he was yet to hear the full story.
"Who would be signing the consent form for Mr. Nathan Gabriel. We are about to commence the Surgery.'' A female voice brought him out of his reverie.
Zachary stepped forward and placed his signature on the form.
Being whisked away to the theater, Zachary stared at his grandfather with a mixed feeling.
Where is my father?Zachary kept stealing glances at the old man as they rode in his Rolls Royce. His bodyguards followed behind. They were heading to the old Mansion where Kelvin and his wife reside. Seeing the look on his face, Kelvin said to him."Not to worry, Son, we will soon be there." Kelvin broke the awkward silence between them.Zachary smiled and hummed. The Old mansion was magnificent. It looked like a King's place with lots of guards standing at different angles. The security detail was really strong as they had passed different sets of guards. Any common person would have a very hard time passing through those gates.Alighting from the car, Zachary was awed. The place was a wonder.Zachary feasted his eyes with the beauty before him. He hadn't ever thought that in his lifetime, he would ever have an opportunity to enter such a place. Kelvin let him Gawk for a while before saying."It's your New home Son." "Huh." Zachary didn't know when he said that. His mouth was st
You better watch your back As he spoke, his voice was hoarse. If Carlos Paddington was close by, he would have been torn into shreds.Kelvin held him by the shoulder, gradually lowering him to his seat in consolation."Calm down Zachary, you will see your father soon and when he is ready to face you. For now, there are more important things I want you to focus on."Just as Kelvin was still speaking, May walked in with a glass of Cranberry juice. Walking to place it at the table before Zachary, She said. "I made fresh Cranberry juice for my grandson.""Come on, go on and try it. You would definitely love it."Zachary thanked her for the gesture. Just what he needed to calm his anger. Especially as it is his favorite juice. He really admired the old lady, though she was stricken with age, she still looked strong and even cooks.Indeed she was a strong lady."We have over a dozen domestic staff in this Mansion, yet you prefer to stress yourself with house chores." Kelvin scolded his wif
Calling Security on the CEOEmily laughed him to scorn. He was basically blabbing. There was no way Zachary that she knew would own a company such as this.Even though the company belonged to his grandfather, Zachary was not sure what was in Kelvin's mind. He was yet to find out what Kelvin would introduce him as before his staff. He only claimed to be the owner of the company just to get Emily to talk. And of course, it worked. Zachary was already a hundred million dollars rich. Something he was sure the general manager, who happened to be Emily's father, was not worth."You're so delusional Zach. I think you've gone insane and no mad person is allowed in this Vicinity." Emily snapped at him while bringing out her cellphone."I'm calling the security to throw you out immediately."Zachary beckoned on her to go ahead. Seeing the boldness he exhibited, Emily was somewhat confused. This was not the Zachary she knew. Firstly, he claimed to own this company and now he told her to go ahe
Keep your guards up.The hall was thrown into Chaos as the noise came up again. Surprise and confusion were all plastered on their faces. John got hold of his daughter just in time as she staggered on her feet. Her heartbeat rose above normal. Because there was confusion in the air, people did not really notice Emily who almost fell to the ground. From where he was standing, John stared at Zachary in bewilderment. Although he dressed simple, he looked different.Zachary did not really notice the other employees. As he scanned through the crowd, his sight caught Emily and her father. He smiled as they avoided his gaze."Well, this young man here is my grandson and you don't need to know why he does not bear the surname Paddington." Kelvin's voice interrupted them."So from now onward, I'm officially stepping down as CEO. I would let your new CEO address you now."Zachary felt chill run through his spine. How would he address these people? He had never been in a position of power befor
How did you get this card?Zachary's heart skipped. He left the organization after informing Maraya. Why would his grandfather say a thing like that? The surgery was successful before he left the hospital yesterday and the doctor said he would be fine. And what is it that he wants to tell him?Zachary's mind was restless as a lot of thoughts kept running through it.He knew he should have gone back to be with his Grandpa. Although Kelvin had assigned some people to make sure Nathan was properly cared for, he still should not have left his father entirely to the care of strangers. If it weren't for Grandpa Nathan, he would have been dead a long time ago. Zachary arrived at the ward to find his father sitting up. He turned and smiled faintly at him.Even though he looked weak, he did not appeal to him as someone who was dying. A nurse was attending to him when Zachary entered. In a few minutes time, she was through and exited the ward giving privacy to Nathan and his grandson."My Bil
I'm in love with you Zach.Stone waited for him to explain further before taking action."I've just been insulted by this waiter and the manager."Stone's face suddenly darkened on hearing what Zachary just said.Zachary left Stone to sort things out as he headed for the car."Well, I'm sorry to say this. You are both fired. You just insulted the owner of this bar. Next time, be more careful with your choice of words." Stone told the manager and the waiter at everyone's dismay.Shocked, they immediately fell to their knees to plead."Sir, please pardon us. It won't happen again. Please beg the young master on our behalf." They pleaded but it fell on deaf ears."It's too late now." Leaving the duo still on their knees pleading, Stone joined Zachary in the car and it Zoomed off immediately.Zachary had just been informed that the bar belonged to his grandfather and those two had the temerity to insult him. They were more unfortunate that he was not in a good mood.It was 7pm in the ev
Taken aback, Zachary stared at her confusedly. Did he hear that right? Is this a prank?Mirabel must definitely be bluffing. She saw his puzzled look and nodded in acknowledgement.Scanning his environment, Zachary realized that they were standing by the roadside with passersby throwing glances at them. Feeling uncomfortable, Zachary made to leave but Mirabel held him by the arm."Please, just hear me out." She pleaded. Taking the chance, Mirabel indirectly asked him out."Zach, you know I'm not Emily. The least you can do for me now is listen to all I have to say."Running her hands through her black long hair, Mirabel let out a Sigh."Since you don't want to go back to the restaurant, can we talk in my car?" She said, pointing a white Volvo car parked at the restaurant garage. "Or would you prefer we go to someplace cozy?"Zachary fell silent like he was contemplating if he should accept her invitation or not. Throwing glances at her pleading face.'What does she really hope to achi
Zachary paused in his steps as soon as Mirabel's question came forth. Smiling inwardly, he turned and replied to her."I'm the same old Zach. Now, if you would excuse me I'd like to take my leave. And I would advise you to end that love brewing in you. It would only come to naught. I would never be with anyone who is a friend of Emily."Exiting the place almost in a haste, Zachary did not give her any more chances to speak further.Staring at Zachary's retreating figure, Mirabel let out a smug smile. She was determined like never before to conquer his love, and it was a feat she must achieve. With Zachary's car already out of sight, Mirabel took out her cellphone and glanced at it quickly.Shit! It's 8pm already and her parents would be worried sick that she isn't back. She was yet to reach home since the close of work. This was not usually her route from work but she just decided to drive through the path and she was happy she did. Bumping into Zachary and professing the love she h
