The legacy of the supreme ruler The mysterious lut
"If you don't mind, I can show the guest around while you attend to the emergency." Aurora offered politely.Edward glanced at Aurora, his brow furrowing in thought. As much as he would like to guide Lieutenant around the establishment himself, the emergency order they received was more urgent."You don't have to worry about me," Lut reassured after noticing Edwards's hesitation. "I'm sure after the previous scene the same won't happen again."Fine." He muttered, "Sir Lut, this is Aurora. She’ll take care of you until I return." He had known Aurora for a while and was one of his most competent staff members, known for her professionalism and level-headedness. Leaving Lut to her would definitely be safer than to any other."The private room 002 has been prepared; just take him there and ensure he is properly attended to." He instructed as he and Frank turned away.Aurora and the rest of the people around went stiff in shock at the number of the private boat given. It should be known th

"Your father told me you'd like to go into investment," Director Edward announced as the two drove back to the mansion after the emergency was dealt with. "What part of the business do you wish to do?""I really haven't given it much thought," Lut confessed. "All this is still new and strange to me. I'm still trying to wrap my head around my new reality."Director Edward hummed knowingly, he stopped the car at the red light and looked towards Lut who was still looking outside. "You have enough time to think about it. But for the time being, why not follow me around?""Most of your father's business is managed by me, I can show you a way around the business for a few months before you make a decision on what to do," Edward suggested.Lut turned to Edward, a flicker of curiosity in his eyes. "Is that even allowed? Won't it bring trouble to you if you bring me along with you?"Edward chuckled, easing the car forward as the light turned green. "Of course. Your father entrusted me with muc

“You look like you didn’t sleep a wink.” Clara noted as she pulled open the car door for Lut, who was dressed in a fitted cream-coloured suit. His hair, styled perfectly to show his handsome face."I was too nervous to sleep," Lut confessed."There is nothing to be nervous about, Mr. Lut; you'll only be there to see how the board meeting goes. Besides, it's a casual meeting over breakfast." She explained as they both got into the car.Lut gave a nervous chuckle, adjusting his tie. "Casual for them, maybe. For me, it's like being thrown into a lion's den."Clara smirked slightly as she glanced at him. "You’ll be fine. Director Edward believes in you, and so should you. The board members might seem intimidating, but they’re just people. They’ll respect you if you present yourself confidently.""Easier said than done."As the car pulled up to the company headquarters, Lut felt his jaw hit the ground in awe. No matter how many times he had seen the magnificent buildings under his father's
The legacy of the supreme ruler Tackling the challenge
“It was nice to see you again, Lut. Having you present in the meeting, I'm certain that you must have grabbed a thing or two.”Lut paused outside for a moment, enjoying the chilly night breeze. To him, the shock of being the son of a man who had such a vast estate and a company that was worth billions of dollars hadn't worn off.Even now, after he was told that he was going to handle a project that would have been given to a professional, anybody other than him who had little or no experience, he was still in awe of how fast his life had changed for the better.“Same here, director Edward. The challenge, everything about the company excites me, you know.”“ Oh, you bet,” Director Edward chipped in. Dressed in a tuxedo and Italian leather shoes, he definitely looked the part.“I can't tell you how excited I am that you are the one in charge of the fast food project. We've never done anything like this before. But the board members were impressed with you, so why not give it a try?”Ha
The legacy of the supreme ruler The surprise
He had barely ended the call when the Porsche stopped at the gates of his father's estate. The gates lifted of its own accord, as if it recognized the car.His eyes widened, and he caught the eyes of Hubert, the driver, who saw his dilemma but refused to speak.“How did that happen?”Hubert adjusted uneasily before speaking.“The gate is one of the new models in the city. It has the ability to recognize all cars owned by Mr James. This is just one of the capabilities of the gate. It can resist forceful entry by raising an alarm that rings throughout the neighborhood and all the way to the station.”Lutenant nodded in awe. A few days ago, he had never passed through a gate that recognised faces. How quickly things could change for the better.“Incredible!”“Here we are, sir.” Before Lut could get out of the car, Hubert had done so, running to his door to open it for him. Smiling, Lut grabbed the file that had been given to him by director Edward before turning to Hubert. “You know th
The legacy of the supreme ruler The contact
As Lutenant left the house that he had come to call his own that morning, he felt overwhelmed by how fast things were moving for him. Last night after showing him the house, his father had handed him a car key, the keys jingling in his hand as he transferred the ownership of the Range Rover that had transported them to the house to him.He could barely find the words to thank his father after that.“This is too much..dad.”His father had smiled after he said that, the skin around his eyes crinkling as he did so.“It's not too much, Lut. For the past few years of your life, you've been battered by life, friends and even your peers. I've watched from the background, and to tell you the truth, you deserve everything that is happening to you now. Even more.”A few minutes later after his father left in an Uber, he stared at the house for close to five minutes, unable to move, unable to do anything at all.A few days ago, he had been ridiculed by the woman he loved most, her new found bo

“It looks highly promising, sir. Despite the fact that there is risk involved, the output at the end can erase any loss incurred from the risks.”Lutenant was impressed. It was exactly what he had thought about the project, but hearing it come from Aurora seemed to give him the confidence he needed to take the challenge head on.She was good, he had to admit.“That project was brought to me by director Edward yesterday, Aurora. And I consented to taking charge of it.”Aurora's eyebrow arched in surprise, and Lut knew why.He had only come to the company a few days ago, and he was already handling something so fragile. It was rare, but at the same time, it said a lot about the extent of his ability to adapt quickly.“The reason I arranged this meeting is because I was asked to choose my team, and you were the first person that came to mind. If I'm going to be in charge of this project, I want you to be my assistant.”Her eyebrows arched even higher, but Lut continued speaking without w
The legacy of the supreme ruler Deja vu
“You know that if this works out, your father will have a list of companies waiting for you to control, right?”They were on the road, in the company car, but this time around, it wasn't driven by Hubert. The driver was a stone faced bald man, whose nostrils seemed to flare anytime the car gathered speed.Lutenant shook his head in the negative, telling director Edward that he had never thought about it before.“I've never thought about it that way. I just saw this as a challenge, and wanted to see what I could do. I never knew that this is a stepping stone to another job?”“It's more than a stepping stone, Lut. With this project, you're going to go places that you've never dreamt of. I trust you. Selecting aurora made me know that you know what you're doing.”Lut shrugged before speaking.“Well, she was the first person that came to mind. I was extremely impressed by the way she carried herself the day we met. I couldn't resist the thought of having someone like that on my team.”A f

A breath away
“Thank you everyone for coming once again. You've made something as common as a housewarming party a memorable one for me. I won't forget this, ever.”Aurora watched the entire mini speech with a special kind of warmth in her heart. She had never seen Natalie so happy.“One, two, three!”The crowd counted with the couple as the knife came down. There was scattered clapping, and then it was then readjusted into a beautiful round of applause.Grabbing a flute from an attendant who was walking by, Carl raised the flute.“Everyone, grab a glass please.”“Aurora? Can you help us make a toast?”Aurora had not seen that coming. Naturally shy, she raised an eyebrow and felt her skin burn under the gaze of the entirety of everyone who was in the room. However, she made her way to the front of the crowd, then raised her flute.“To a life of happiness, endless celebrations and every good thing in the world. To Natalie and Carl!”“To Natalie and Carl!”There were clinks as flute brushed flute. Sh
House warming bliss
The roar was deafening. Two pops followed, and in a minute, she was drenched with alcohol. Aurora smiled in satisfaction, enjoying the shock and surprise on her best friend's face.Carl slipped out of the crowd in a moment, holding a card that said boldly, “Welcome to our home, Natalie. I will always love you.”Natalie burst into tears on seeing the card, and immediately fell into his arms. The crowd burst into a series of cooing, and Aurora stole a flute of champagne from an attendant’s tray, chugging it down and satisfying her thirst.“When…when did you do all of this, Carl? How did you plan this?” She looked at the crowd and the decorations, her hand scratching the back of her neck in confusion.“I wouldn't have done it without the help of your best friend here, Aurora. She helped me. We did it together. You have a wonderful friend, babe. She's a keeper.”“You knew?” Natalie asked her, as she struggled to wipe the tears from her eyes.“Of course I did. Can you imagine Carl doing al
The ultimate welcome
“Whatever. I'm dirty and sweaty already. How about I just sit in the dining room and you serve me, alright? I'll take my bath later.” Natalie grinned, leaving her in the sitting room. “You know, sometimes I wonder what you would've done without me. Just look at you, tired as hell, coming home to a beautiful meal you would've paid for at a restaurant. You owe me big time.” Aurora groaned audibly. “Can you just cut the boasting part and forward to the part where I eat and say thanks? You can boast after that, okay?” Natalie's laughter was loud. Aurora dropped her hand bag in the sitting room, snatching her phone. In the dining room, she texted Carl immediately, urging him to call Natalie in a few minutes. She nearly let the phone fall from her hands when she saw her best friend enter with a tray of the food. It was one of her favourites. Lamb chops, biscuits and an apple pie next to it. There was a salad w
The squad
Boss and personal assistant left the office building, walking stride by stride. Aurora, her phone in her hand, was trying to reach Carl. He was the one who had done the arrangements, and she would've helped out if she didn't have to go down to the Fredrickson's company and help Lutenant get the contract he was gushing over so much. She waited next to her old model Benz, waiting for Carl to pick up. When he didn't answer after the first ring, she turned to Lut, who was waiting for her and shrugged. “He hasn't picked?” “Yes. Makes me wonder what is wrong with him. Who makes plans and doesn't keep to his own part of the deal? If he knows how tired I am, he'll pick up.” Lut smiled. “Call him again.” His voice was calm, the exact opposite of what hers was. Nodding, she did just as he had requested. And to her shock, Carl picked up on the first ring. “Aurora!” He called her name as if he was out of breath.
Sealing the deal
The executive meeting hadn't gone well, or maybe someone had brought an offer larger than the amount he had proposed. He didn't know which one it was yet. “The executive meeting didn't end too well. The highest bidder plays a huge role, Lut. I'm afraid we chose someone else.” Lutenant smiled. He looked out of the window, forgetting what he had planned to say for an instant if things didn't go his way. “Lut? Are you still there?” “Yes sir. It's alright, Mr Fredrickson. I understand you perfectly. There are other companies in the industry. We'll have to look into it.” He glanced at his father, who raised an eyebrow, still smiling despite the fact that he had heard his son's answer and knew that the deal was lost. “Come on, Lut, I'm kidding! Did you even believe that I'll sell to someone else? You've been the highest bidder so far. The rest have all come in under hundred. And even if you weren't, I would've still sold to you.
Family friction
When Richard ended the call, his hands were trembling slightly and he felt lightheaded. When had Mr Johnson entered the room? Had he been listening to the entirety of his conversation with Hal? He wanted the earth to open up and swallow him. “Having problems at work?” He nodded, not knowing what else to say. “Yes, something like that.” Mr Johnson stood up, going to the window. He looked out of it, smiling at nothing in particular. When he turned to look at Richard, Richard noticed how furrowed his eyebrows were, and how he didn't even smile one bit, even though he had been smiling earlier. The smile had seemed to disappear into thin air. Something was wrong. “What kind of problems are you having at work, son? Are you aware that you're marrying my daughter, the only child I've ever had? Do you know that, Richard?” Richard swallowed hard. He wasn't scared of Mr Johnson, no, that was far from it.
Guilt by association
“Hundred million, Mr Fredrickson. I can't go higher.” Mr Fredrickson looked at members of his executive team. They all exchanged knowing glances which Lut knew he didn't understand. But he kept calm, watching the entire proceedings with his hand holding his flute. “Why don't we both sleep over it, Lut? My team and I will take your offer into consideration. Before anything, I want you to know that I've thought about leaving this company in good hands. And there are no other guaranteed good hands in this city apart from yours.” Lutenant nodded with a smile. “I understand you perfectly, Mr Fredrickson. I do.” “Now, there are still offers coming in, and we want to sell to the highest bidder, I'm afraid. At the same time, I want my legacy to live on even if this place doesn't belong to me anymore. You're the only one who can assure that.” “Oh come on, Mr Fredrickson, you flatter us way too much.” Mr Frederickson raised
The takeover bid
“I hope you enjoyed your meal, Lutenant.” Lut nodded. At that point, he couldn't tell which kitchen was better. The consortium kitchen made good meals, but he had to admit that he had tasted one of the best pasta drenched in sauce he had ever eaten in his entire life. It was insanely good. “I did, Mr Fredrickson. I'll need a few days to decide if your kitchen is better than ours, though. But I have to admit, that pasta was amazing.” They were looking at the buildings, and Frederickson was pointing out the important parts that they needed to know. Aurora, walking next to him, held a notebook and a camera in her hand. She was taking pictures and writing at the same time. “How about you, Aurora? How was the food?” “I'm planning to ask the cooks to give me their recipe after this. That's to show you how good it was.” “Oh, good to hear. Lut, you've got a good one on your hands. Any woman who loves cooking is
Love
Truly, Mr Fredrickson and his team were waiting for them in the parking lot. Aurora had done a lot of research, and because of that, she knew how he looked. But up close, he looked shorter, even, and his smile was warm. His eyes twinkled in happiness, as if he was overjoyed that his company was being sold. “Mr Lutenant! I've been expecting you.” The two men shook hands, while Aurora watched. They were basically gauging each other through the handshake, but Aurora was comfortable with it. She knew her boss could handle it. “And who is this behind you?” “That is Aurora Spencer, my personal assistant and the woman in charge of most of my reformation success in most companies. She's very good, I tell you.” “Well, let's see how good she's going to do here. Welcome, Aurora. Lutenant, this is my team. The executives in charge of running this place. It hasn't been easy, but they've done a good job. You have to acknowledge them.”
