The next day, Curtis woke up much earlier than the rest of the people in the mansion. He went straight to the garden and sat there to contemplate the pool in complete solitude.

He loved having some peace, and the silence was undisturbed. Only the chirping of birds could be heard in the distance, accompanying the sunrise.

"Good morning, Mr. Curtis. Would you like something to eat?" Alfred asked, arriving unexpectedly and breaking the lovely silence.

"Good morning, Alfred. Have Carson and Beth returned yet?" Curtis asked, lifting himself slightly from the chair.

"I'm afraid not, sir," Alfred said with the firmness characteristic of a butler.

"It's very strange. Baxter said over the phone that it was just a minor thing and they would be back home yesterday."

"I only know they haven't returned, Mr. Curtis."

"Don't worry, Alfred. Please just bring me a glass of orange juice," Curtis ordered and pondered Carson's health.
