Richard could see that Lily wasn't interested in having a conversation with him. He also wasn't willing to continue a conversation with her because you really want to be with someone that was really rude and looks down on others.

Oliver was disappointed that Dora, his girlfriend, was keeping friends as rude as Lily.

“You should talk to him more respectfully, he's the one paying for our meal so you should be careful the way you talk to him”Oliver uttered furiously.

Lily was surprised when she heard this. “How is it that Richard who was just a waiter could afford that much to treat his friends on an outing in the new century eatery which was quite expensive”Lily thought to herself. She must have had a wrong impression on him so now she tries to act more nicely to Richard but it was already too late because Richard wasn't interested in her anymore.
