A ding

Theo woke up, his vision was blurry and gloomy. He managed to sit up and looked around his surroundings when his sight improved.

He could feel his head ringing so hard like it had been hit on a rock.

" Hospital!!! " He mouthed.

Yes, he was in a hospital wearing a patient's clothes.

" What happened? Why am I here? " He asked, feeling puzzled.

Later, the memories started flooding back when he remembered he had been hit by a car.

" Oh my God!! Am I okay? " His eyes widened ,and he began to look through his body if he had sustained any injuries.

His hand was wrapped with a bandage. He touched it and it hurt so badly.

" Ouch!! I have to get to work!! Who brought me here? Argh " He shouted with anger.

Seeing his injury, he was sure he was going to be having a vacation at the hospital. He'd have to call in sick for a few days.

Theo got down from the bed and began to look for his phone when a nurse entered his ward carrying some documents.

" Oh!! You're awake, Mr Theo. Do you know what happened to you? " She asked, dropping the documents.

Theo shook his head, staring at the nurse.

She walked towards him and told him to sit in the bed, " Sit. I'm changing your bandages ."

Theo agreed and waited for her response as she began to unwrap his bandage.

" You were hit by a car, and someone brought you here saying the person ran off. Thank God, you didn't sustain any major casualties. it only affected your arm ." The nurse uttered.

" Arrghh," He said softly as the medicines she applied to it started to sting.

" Sorry! "

When she was done, Theo asked the questions that were siblings in his head; the finances.

" Umm…what of the bills? Did the good Samaritan pay the bills? " He asked curiously.

She replied, " No. He only left your phone with us "

" My phone!!! Where is my wallet?? "

The nurse walked toward the drawer and brought out his phone, " This was only what he left with us. There was no wallet "

Oh no!!! The good Samaritan was a thief. He had stolen his wallet which contained the 400 dollar tip he had earned. Luckily, his card wasn't there.

He ran his left hand through his head and asked with his heart in his mouth, " So, who is going to pay for the bills? The man stole my wallet "

The nurse replied bluntly, " You are responsible for all your bills. No one left a deposit "

His head swung upside down with what he just heard. He was responsible for his bills?

He doesn't have any money in this account, only the tip he has stored inside his wallet.

Oh no!!

Different thoughts started to roam rent-free in his head. How am I going to pay the bills? Am I going to be amputated? Would organs be removed as donor organs?

" So, what will be your mode of payment? " She asked.

" I'm sorry but I don't have any money. My money was stolen and I have no idea how I'm going to pay "

The nurse scoffed, " Then why get hit when you don't have enough money for the bills? You'll have to pay the money, sir "

" But…try to understand, " He said softly, trying to reason with her.

Out of the blue, the doctor came in carrying some documents. The nurse kept mute.

" So now you're mute!!! "

The doctor's eyes ran across the pages and said, still staring at the book, " Theophilus ..your bill has been paid. You're going to be discharged today "

Theo's face beamed with excitement. His body wasn't going to get amputated.

HOURS LATER.

Theo was discharged from the hospital and ready to go home. He wore his uniform and left for home because he had called in sick.

Who thought he was going to hit? And his plans were going to get ruined?

" You got lucky, Richard " He gritted his teeth.

He got to his house and saw a familiar figure standing beside his home. It was his grumpy landlord.

Of course, he knew why he was waiting for him.

" Hey….where have you been? I called you but you didn't pick up. I see what you're trying to do but in the next ten days get out of my house " He screamed in agony.

Theo's mouth widened, " Ten days!! My wedding is few…. " He stopped when he remembered.

" Wedding!!! Haha…you think I don't know that your relationship with Gemma is a scam. Get your things out of my house " He laughed.

Theo stood in front of his landlord and begged, " Sir, I don't have anywhere to go. My salary is largely spent on my rent "

The landlord shrugged, tugging his hands into his pockets, " I don't care. And don't you dare lie to me about your expenses? Weren't you spending your life savings on Gemma!!! A poor caring for the rich, doesn't it sound absurd to you? "

" Sir. I promise to pay up but don't sell the house " Theo pleaded.

"How did you know? I sold the house!! And the owners are coming in less than two weeks. Get out of here or be their guard " He laughed hysterically.

Theo didn't lose hope but continued begging for mercy, " Tell them to forget about the money. I'll pay in a week "

" There's nothing I can do. I've informed you about it. Be hasty about it "

Theo wanted to touch him when the man aggressively pushed him back, hitting his bandaged hand.

"Arghh !!! " He groaned in pain.

Theo kicked a bucket beside him and went into his house in despair.

He fell on the floor and started shaking his head, " Why??? Why does it have to me? First Gemma, now this house. What's the worst that can happen "

" How am I going to find a house within a space of two weeks? I don't even have enough money for that shit!! My life is ruined and broken " He said without realizing that tears were trickling down his cheeks.

" How'll I get out of this mess!!! "

Suddenly, a notification popped on his phone and he checked to see if,

" Payment notification; New balance; 50 million dollars "

" What the hell!!!! "
