2. Xavier's Decision

"Xavier, do you need my help to find a job?"

Savana walked into the room after helping her mum clear away her dinner. She saw Xavier lying down with his eyes closed. It looked like Xavier was very tired. This was going to be the best night, because after all this time Savana could hug him again. She didn't know if she still had feelings for Xavier or if her heart still felt empty and hollow.

Xavier took a long time to answer Savana's question. "Looks like I'm on my own. Thank you for looking after me."

Savana just let out a long sigh before she went to the bathroom to clean up and went to bed with her husband.

The next day, the father-in-law sent Xavier to take Savana to the Cooper Company, where he said they would discuss the grand opening plan for their next branch. As Savana was also one of the directors of the subsidiary, which had only been set up about six months earlier, she had to be involved in supporting the next company, which would be run by her sister Sheila.

"That's a formal outfit for you. You don't even have a shirt, how can you get a better job than Savana? She is the CEO of Beauty Cooper. How can you get a higher position than Savana? Or have more money?" Anggie handed Xavier a suit and formal shirt as she criticised him. They were Joseph's clothes and when Xavier wore them, they fit his athletic body perfectly.

"Mum... Don't criticise my husband like that, he will definitely try to do better. Don't worry about our household," Savana said in a soft voice that helped Xavier make his mother understand.

Anggie just let out a long sigh and then left them. Meanwhile, Savana immediately helped Xavier tidy up his clothes and straighten his tie. Joseph himself had left earlier, he was also attending the event. All the members of the Cooper family would be there, but Xavier was not afraid at all, he would still go, even if he would get harsh criticism from them, because Savana was by his side.

"Let's go, everything is ready!" Savana exclaimed with a happy face as she took her husband by the arm and walked to their car. Since Xavier was coming along, he would be driving the car.

The entire staff was busy preparing for the launch of Sheila's new company. At exactly nine in the morning, the event was about to begin. Xavier and Savana entered the Cooper Company. Everyone was excited to see them. The beautiful woman of their dreams was holding someone, some knew it was Savana's husband. But not many knew that Savana was married.

"Savana," called Sheila, who immediately hugged Savana, they were like sisters. Sheila is Jenifer and Robert's daughter. Jenifer is Joseph's last sister, there are four siblings, so there will be more siblings coming.

"Sheila, congratulations, I'm so happy that you're finally able to run this new business after graduating from college." Savana hugged Sheila for a long time before they let go of each other.

When Sheila's eyes fell on Xavier, Savana immediately introduced her husband.

"Do you remember Xavier? He's my husband and he's back." Savana told Xavier to meet Sheila.

"Sheila, you've grown up. Congratulations on the beginning of your success." Xavier shook hands with Sheila and vice versa.

Sheila asked them to sit down for a moment, she was called to the front to get ready, and there would be a rope cut with scissors as an inauguration, before opening with a short speech.

The event lasted thirty minutes, with everyone cheering and supporting Sheila. So did the staff who had been prepared to work for Sheila's company. Next up was a meal with the extended Cooper family. The banquet was held in the main hall. All the food and tables were neatly laid out.

"I heard you needed a job?" Sheila asked when they were in the lift. But it wasn't just the three of them, there were Savana's other two brothers and they were all married.

"Yes," Xavier replied with a straight face.

"How would you like to work for my company? I need more employees and I can promote you to manager if you want," Sheila said, sounding sincere.

Savana smiled at Sheila's offer, neither of them ever felt superior, so Savana wasn't surprised that Sheila was nicer to her husband.

"Huh? You offered him the job of manager, Shei?" chirped Yuan, who was the eldest brother among them.

Sheila nodded quickly, turning her head to look at Yuan. "Is there something wrong? I think he is worthy to be a manager in my company."

"Sheila, don't you know the bad news about him? You want to hire him without seeing what his background is? It's not that we forbid and regulate you, but the company you're going to manage is new and if other companies know you're hiring someone like him, then you won't be able to attract them to work with you," said Teresya, Yuan's wife.

"Yes, that's true. I don't agree. He doesn't have the skills and experience to be a manager anyway. He's just an ordinary soldier who happened to be discharged. If he wasn't Savana's husband, he wouldn't be here joining us. I hear he's also been banished by the Smith family." Haris said cruelly, glancing sarcastically at Xavier.

While Savana was angry at her brothers for humiliating her husband, it was the same as insulting her. "Sorry Brother Haris, Brother Yuan, you overestimated Xavier so much. You haven't seen or proven what Xavier is capable of," Savana replied as she looked at them sharply.

Xavier didn't reply to her hurtful remarks, he just kept quiet and looked calm until the lift doors opened. "I'm sorry Sheila, I can't accept your offer. And thank you for your kindness, I'll definitely try to work somewhere else, I don't want to inconvenience the Cooper family," said Xavier, who looked sincere as he apologised and declined his offer, then took Savana's hand to continue the journey to the main hall. Savana looked pleased with Xavier's response.

Yuan and Haris laughed at Xavier's reply. "You heard, right? He couldn't do it and that's why he rejected Sheila's good intentions," Haris chirped and Yuan nodded.

"Will you work in my family's business if you don't want to work at Cooper's? I think there's a vacancy for a cleaner there, you can apply," Kiran joked, adding to the fun they had mocking Xavier. Kiran was Haris's wife and they looked equally haughty.

As they entered the main hall, Grandpa Cooper looked at his grandchildren, who came in pairs, except for Sheila, who didn't have a partner yet. Grandpa Cooper's attention was drawn to Xavier. They all started to take their seats, but Grandpa Cooper quickly stopped Xavier before he could get a seat.

"Xavier? Are you back after all this time?" said Grandpa Cooper as he walked towards him.

"Yes, Grandpa." Xavier looked at Grandpa Cooper as he bowed his head politely.

"What good news can I hear from you? Did you have any outstanding achievements during your military service?" asked Grandpa Cooper again, wanting to know more about him. Although he already knew, he wanted to hear it straight from Xavier's mouth.

Xavier looked calmly into his grandfather's eyes before answering his question. "I'm just an ordinary soldier, but they call me the God of War."

"Huh? What is it?" Grandpa was surprised, he didn't understand what Xavier meant.

Immediately, everyone in the hall laughed out loud.

"How can there be such a nickname? I used to be a soldier too, even though I'm retired, I haven't forgotten that and we served in different places, but there's no such ridiculous nickname." Theo, who was sitting at the other end of the table, commented with a gentle laugh, he was the parent of Haris and Kiran.

"Xavier, do you want to be a comedian and entertain us all?" Grandpa joked when he heard Theo's explanation.

"No grandpa, but that's how it is."

"Fine, if you see it that way. But I'm not going to let my grandson marry a partner who behaves like a parasite." There was a momentary pause as Grandpa Cooper said this, he glanced briefly at Xavier and Savana's worried looking hands. Then Grandpa gave a wry smile as he said sternly. "Your marriage to Savana seemed insincere. You didn't give her a wedding ring and there was no wedding party. Savana once told me she wanted to get married and be a princess at her wedding. It's a pity that you became her husband, so I'm sorry that my granddaughter didn't get to live her dream."

Xavier said nothing and remained silent. He was probably feeling guilty and Grandpa expected to see a pitiful expression on his face. Instead, Xavier looked cold and blank. So Grandpa Cooper said something again and it became a challenge.

"I really want Savana to be happy. Seeing her happy means you've successfully become her husband. So if I ask you something, are you willing, Xavier?" Grandfather asked, looking sharply at Xavier.

Savana lifted her head, if he had said something like that, she knew Grandpa was trying to test Xavier. Suddenly Savana had a bad feeling.

"Yes, just say it Grandpa." Xavier nodded confidently.

"I want you to organise an elaborate wedding for Savana. Not many people know that Savana is married. There are even many Conglomerate men who want to make her their wife, but Savana always refuses and wants to wait for you to come home. To repay my granddaughter's loyalty, you must throw her the most elaborate wedding in Scotland City. On your fifteenth wedding anniversary tomorrow, can you afford a lavish wedding?" Grandpa Cooper said, causing everyone in the main hall to cheer.

Xavier seemed to think and fell silent, leaving him to be heckled.

"I don't think he has that much money, Grandpa!" said Yuan.

"Hahaha, was he able to collect money for a lavish wedding in thirteen days?" Haris laughed with him.

"He's been silent for quite a while, it seems he's calculating how much it will cost and hopefully he won't force Savana to pay for it first." Then Haris's old man Theo chimed in.

"Of course I won't allow it!" Joseph, who was there, immediately replied to his brother babbling with a grim expression on his face.

Xavier looked at Savana who was looking at him anxiously, slowly shaking his head. Savana thought silently and his eyes told him that Xavier did not accept his grandfather's request. But beyond Savana's reasoning, Xavier actually made a unanimous decision.

"I promise to make Savana happy with the wedding she's been dreaming of for so long. Don't worry, you will all be witnesses and see what happens on the fifteenth," Xavier said firmly and loudly.

Savana was shocked, she immediately stood up and looked at her husband. Then she quickly took she hand and led her out of the hall.

"What are you doing? I don't need a fancy wedding, Xavier! I was happy when you came back here," Savana said as she looked at Xavier intently.

Xavier smiled slightly as he took both of Savana's hands and clasped them tightly. "You trust me, don't you?" Xavier asked quietly as Savana nodded slightly, as if enchanted by her husband's aura.

"So you too must wait and witness my surprise, Savana, my wife."
