Chapter 1 : Welcome To My Miserable Life

In a dark street, and only the sound of Elijah Verrazano cheap shoes could be heard. He was sweating while running down the street. He's been running the street for a minute but he still hasn't found the man he's looking for.

The man he was looking for didn't pay for what he bought at the grocery store where Elijah worked, he worked there as a cashier.

He stopped running because he was facing a wall and he had nowhere to run. He sighed loudly when he realized he didn't catch the man he was chasing.

'I'm dead for sure' Elijah thought.

The price of what the man bought that he didn't pay was huge, Elijah knew that would be deducted from his salary. His salary is already small, then what will he receive when it is deducted into his salary?

'There will be nothing left of my salary if that happens'

Elijah walked back to the grocery store, his walking slowly because of nervousness. He could feel his hands getting cold and his breathing fast.

'Can I just go back to the grocery store tomorrow?' he said to himself.

But he immediately disagreed by the thought, his boss would be even more angry with him if he didn't show up right now.

Elijah was about to enter the door of the grocery store but it opened causing him to step back slightly. Armando, his boss faced him with angry eyes and a frown on his face.

"You didn't catch the guy, do you?!" Armando shouted at him.

Elijah filled with fear, he closed his eyes and bowed.

"I'm sorry—" he didn't finish what he had to say because Armando kicked him so quickly that he ended up sitting on the floor.

"You're so worthless!" Armando yelled at him. "It's your fault! Do you understand that?! You probably know what will happen because of your stupidity, Elijah!" he added.

He was quickly filled with fear even though he expected it.

"Sir, don't deduct it from my salary," Elijah begged while tears started to fall from his eyes. "I know it's my fault but I can work to pay that just please don't deduct—"

Armando's palm quickly hit his cheek. Elijah closed his eyes in pain then, he didn't think that his boss would slap him because of that.

'Why is my life so miserable?' he thought.

"You almost died working, but did you become rich? You think you can pay for what that man steals by working? If you think that, then keep dreaming!" Armando shouted and gave him a kick causing him to scream in pain. "I will deduct what that man steals from your salary, and the conversation is over."

Armando was about to leave but Elijah quickly grabbed his leg to stop him from leaving. Even though he feels fear and pain, he has to beg for his boss.

He has no other choice but to do it.

"T-there is nothing left from my salary if that will be deducted to my salary," he said, his voice is shaking. "Please, don't deduct it. . ."

Armando looked at him and grinned as if he was still happy that the man was begging in front of him right now.

"That's because of your stupidity, Elijah. Shall I deduct it from your salary or should I fire you?" Armando asked him while grinning, that's when Elijah's hope was completely lost.

He lips parted as he looked at his boss. That can't happen!

When Elijah didn't say a word, Armando laughed loudly before entering the grocery store. He couldn't help but ask God if he did something bad and his life turned out like this.

He did nothing but to work since he was young, for himself and for the family that helped him get out of the orphanage.

Elijah slowly stood up and wiped his bleeding lips from his boss slapped. He left that place and walked on the side of the road.

He could feel the coldness of the surroundings even though he was wearing a jacket, the coldness of the surroundings did not help to ease his feelings but it made his feelings even worse.

He didn't know where he was going.

Elijah also doesn't want to go home to Flor, the woman who adopted him. Flor is married already, and they have two children. She considered him as her child. Even if she doesn't treat him well, Elijah still feels indebted to her.

He doesn't want to go home to Flor's house because she will get angry again because he doesn't have any money. He didn't have any other job besides being a cashier at a small grocery store. He is also not a college graduate so it is hard finding a job, no one accepts him because the job requirement includes that first you must have a diploma.

While walking he felt hungry, it was late and his stomach was empty. He reached into the pocket of his jogging pants and found a coin. He took it and approached a bake shop that was still open.

"I want to buy bread," he said.

The saleswoman didn't say a word and just handed him the bread, after he finished paying he immediately left. He started walking again while opening the bread he bought.

He had just taken a few bites when he heard a man's laughter but they stopped immediately when they saw him. Fear filled Elijah when he saw who the men were in front of him now.

This is the Red Note Gang!

Elijah heard that this group doesn't care about your gender, if they want to kill you. They will kill you, they act quietly and will hurt you without guilt.

He let go of the bread he was holding because of nervousness, causing the men to laugh again.

'Is today friday the 13th, why am I so unlucky?'

"You look really scared, dude!" A red haired man said with a laugh.

"Hey! Do you know it's bad to waste food?"

Elijah looked at the man with black hair and tattoos all over his body. He couldn't move as the man started walking towards him. He wanted to run but his knees wouldn't follow as if they had a mind of their own.

'Is this my end?' he thought.

Elijah couldn't think anymore because he was quickly punched in the jaw by the man with many tattoos on his body. His body sprang somewhere, he closed his eyes and felt that with that blow he could no longer open his eyes.

He was about to try to get up but he quickly felt a blow to his stomach, he screamed in pain and quickly heard the shouting and laughter of the men as if they were happy about what was happening.

The only thing on Elijah's mind right now was the question.

'Am I going to die here?'
