Merely minutes ago, Yani city was surrounded in a cacophony of sounds, most celebrating the end of the elite gladiator league. Even though most of the citizens had not seen the league, news of the events that had occurred spread like wildfire. Now however the city was even louder, this time the sounds were those if panic or fear.
Civilians were rushing back to their homes in an attempt to escape something they could not comprehend. A bestial roar had emanated throughout the city, affecting the whole city. The city turned from a state of celebration to a state of war within minutes.
The beast horde was an event that occurred every ten or so years in Yani City. The exact time of the horde was unknown but the City was aware that certain signs would accompany the horde, with this roar being the first. Thus the city had a routine for entering a state of emergency.
Anyone who was a teenager or older had experienced the roar before, but the one that had justhappened was like nothing any of them had ever heard.
To ordinary mortals the roar was only extremely loud, but to cultivators it was much more overbearing. The cultivation bases of every cultivator in Yani City quivered in fear as the roar echoed throughout the land. Many of the weaker cultivators could not handle it and directly fainted, while some became hysterical and started shouting like mad men.
The reason for this was simple. There was a presence within the roar that only cultivators of a certain level could sense. Like how there are sounds of certain frequencies humans can't hear but dogs can. In this case humans were the dogs, and Bastian was a very special dog.

Yani City was in essence a C Rank City but it stood at the very apex of C ranked cities. One could even say that its grandeur could match up to some B rank Cities of the lowest order. It was a coastal city, which primarily survived on free trade and tourism. It was a free city without any allegiance to any country whatsoever. It was run by a mayor, who was elected by a council of elders.
These elders represented the most powerful families within the City but four families stood above the rest. These were the Dwight family, the York family, the Oxlade family and the Cole Family.
The Dwight family was mostly involved in City management, resulting in them having the greatest number of elders within the council. The current Mayor was also from the Dwight family. The York Family was in control of public security and the Army, due to the fact that the majority of the highest ranking soldiers was either from the family or had pledged allegiance to the family. The Oxlade family, were real estate giants and owned the majority of the inns, taverns and auction houses within the city.
The Cole family had the smallest number of members within the elder's council, but no one in the city would deny that it had the second most terrifying presence within the city. This was due to the fact that, ninety percent of the goods that went in and outside the city, went through their hands. They owned the majority of the ships, caravans, carts and other modes of transport and were essentially the kings of trade.
Unlike the other 3 families, the Cole family had only recently came into power. The other 3 had been in power for many generations and were aristocratic in nature. At this very moment. An emergency summons for the council of elders had been convened regarding this matter. Anyone who was of importance was making their way to the city hall. It was one of the largest buildings within Yani City and it had a dome like structure. Within the building were the offices of those who ran the city and the hall of elders.
The hall of elders was like a mini stadium, with a large round table placed in the center. The average elders sat in the seats above while the high elders sat on the table. It goes without saying that the high elders had far more authority than the normal elders.
Within minutes of the roar the hall of elders had every elder who could attend the meeting. Normally this room would be filled with noise. After all, elders were politicians, and this was their version of a parliament. Laws would be made or destroyed in this room, depending on the agenda. Yet today was an exception.
The entire room was quiet. The normally vigorous old men and women were as quiet as children who felt guilty. The high elders seated around the table were quiet as well. They were all unhappy with what had occurred, but noe was not the time for sentiment, now was the time for action.
One of the seats on the table was empty, and it just so happened to be the most important seat. The seat which every person in that room either desired to sit on or feared. The seat of the Mayor!
As the Mayor entered the hall, all eyes were in him. Bhasera Dwight! A name that resonated with power within the walls of Yani city. This man had been in charge of this city for as long as most can remember.
He was tall, incredibly muscular and had a thick beard. All of the hair on his head was white, which was synonymous with his old age. But his body radiated a vigour that could put any youth to shame. He was not dying any time soon. Much to the chagrin of many. But he also had another identity, Yani City's strongest cultivator!
In the Sovereign Continent, martial power was everything. The old man had man attained this position through both his wits and his strength. Tyson Cole was not one to bow down easily, but even he had to admit that when the old freak walked in he could not help but shiver. Tyson wasalso one of the high elders, and so was the head of every important family in Yani City.
The old man was always dressed in armor despite the fact that he was a city official, adding to his vicious aura. He said down and clapped his hands, gaining everyone's attention.
"Now then, let's begin shall we?"
"Let's start with what we know so far. Onismo, tell us what you know."Bhasera signalled to Onismo York, head of the York family, which just happened to be the family in charge of public security and Yani City's armed forces; making him the highest ranking soldier in the city.Contrary to what most might think, Onismo was a small and quiet man. He barely spoke and had the temperament of a sophisticated man. If he was seen on the streets wearing his robes, one might believe him to be a scholar, but he was not wearing his robes. Right now, like Bhasera, he was fully clad in armour, with bloodlust oozing out of his body. He was a man who lived for battle, thus today was quite exciting for him, but none of his excitement showed on his face, which was as expressive as a piece of plain paper.Onismo stood up and reported what he knew, "So far, our scouts have reported that a horde or daemons is gathering a dozen miles from the city, surrounding the entire city from all
"I assure you that our expert will not disappoint this city. You have my word." Said Tyson with a smirk. His confident demeanor made Khama very uncomfortable, not to mention no who knew how powerful this so called 'expert'. Humans will always fear the unknown, and Khama was no exception to this rule."Very well then, let us make plans on how to deal with the southern wall issue. Anyone have any ideas?"The room quieted down at Bhasera's question. No one had the courage to mention what they thought, not to mention only a handful of people had the authority to speak at this moment. After some thought, Khama grinned slyly and came up with a proposal."As we all know the Cole family is considered one of the four great families of Yani City, yet they have never made any great contributions to this city regarding the horde."Tyson could not help but frown, "Khama, what are you getting at.?"Khama could not help but rub his belly in excitement, "It'
"Right now we have a dragon that wants us dead, an city of nobles that wants us dead, and an entire horde of monsters to boot. We don't have time for your shit. I personally enjoy breathing, so how about we deal with those matters first."Bastian considered himself to be a laid back, and he was. So him becoming so serious had an odd effect, even Tyson was moved by Bastian's words, not to mention Sula. Kenshin could not help but nod in approval.Tyson put his hand on his sister's shoulder. Calming her town. He squeezed tightly, making her come back to her senses. She stepped back and crossed her arms in front of her ample chest."Our family does not have enough soldiers to deal with the aquatic daemons, and the support given by the Oxlade and York families is non existent. They just said that to force me into a position with no excuse."Bastian grinned and started moving his hands in a way that one does when they are washing their hands in water. In looked
Kit took a deep breath. His heart was racing, but his mind was surprisingly clear. Maybe he just couldn't hear himself think against the blaring noise of the sirens of Yani city warning them all of what was coming, a constant reminder of the impending doom in Kit's ears. His uniform was new, or it may have been Kit had never seen actual battle, which did little to inspire his men's faith in him. He led a band of mercenaries that had been hired by the elders of the city about ten years earlier for this very purpose. It was less a band and more like a small army and for ten years they had known the horde was coming. They had talked about this day, trained for it, and waited for it for ten years. Now the day had arrived and the city expected to get its money's worth. It was obvious that the past ten years had been all talk for most of the mercenaries belonging to the avenging shield mercenary group. They wore light black leather uniform. Kit, their commander,
Yani city itself was situated on a large desert island. the island itself was about the size of a small country. The daemon horde usually came from the far south east region of the island where there was a vast jungle that had not yet been consumed by the desert. While the inhabitants of the city could leave whenever they wanted, the island happened to be rich in one thing: minerals, and lots of them. This is what had drawn humans to the island and forced them to stay. Now the city was thriving and it was too late to turn back.As Kit scanned the horizon all he could see was sand and trees until the point where the sky touched the ground. But there was no doubt about it, the horde was coming. He turned around on Valo, to face his men."Listen." He said, calmly. His voice was loud and clear, and as the archers on top of the walls were all cultivators he knew he didn't have to speak very loud for them to hear him. "Can you hear it?" as the wind faded into the backg
He was one of Kit's commanders and had been charged to hold the eastern wall. Now as the behemoths came closer he found that all the thoughts that had plagued him earlier. All the uncertainty seemed to fade away. Now his mind was clear, except for one thought. It was of her. He imagined her waiting for him in the city after the battle, and held on tight to the memory. They were getting closer now. Large, herbivorous behemoths with three large horns arranged in a triangle; two on its head and one on at the tip of its snout. They shook the earth as they knocked down anything in their way. If they got through then the city would definitely fall.Suddenly something heavy came down on him. He hadn't expected it. It knocked his horse over, throwing him to the ground. it was the corpse of a thunderbird that had been slain in mid-air. As he fell he spun around and kicked the thunderbird into the path of an oncoming behemoth. The lumbering beast tripped on the corpse, resulting in a d
She regained her footing and prepared to fire again. The thunderbird was busy snapping at something. She realised it was one of her men that the alpha thunderbird must have snatched as it swept over the wall.A few more chomps and it swallowed, leaving a dismembered leg to fall limp to the ground. Meera conjured another bow and began firing arrow-lances like crazy. With amazing agility it dodged them all and returned for another bite.it was clear the alpha was faster and stronger than normal thunderbirds, but Meera kept firing. As it swept over the wall again it snatched up another soldier with its tremendous jaws and took another one in its talons. The soldier trapped in its talons was still alive and was struggling to get free. The alpha thunderbird simply squeezed and there was a crunching noise. The soldier stopped struggling. The talons released him and he fell limp all the way to the hard ground. The alpha thunderbird made another hundred and eighty degree
Bastian sat in the Cole family garden. It was a charming botanical wonder full of flowers Bastian had never seen before and well trimmed trees and hedges in neat little rows. Soon the plan would be put into action, and Bastian's mind had been racing. Several gardeners were tending to the maize of stunning flora. His clothes were fine and comfortable, provided by Tyson Cole while Bastian had been living under his house to prepare for the ensuing battle that was to come. His hair was growing again, in fact he found it grew quite quickly, but Bastian had become accustomed to keeping it short. He had been taking walks in Tyson Cole's garden more frequently in the past few days, choosing to seclude himself in meditative isolation as much as he possibly could, and he knew why. Since the deafening roar – no, that was too recent – since he had woken up in a foreign body in this foreign land and trapped with this foreign soul inside him that claimed to have become a
