To kill or to be killed

Battle ring

I woke up with a sudden noise,

Hmm? What is it this time?

I look at the door and I guess someone's opening it, I can't help but to cough, it's so dusty here, even the bathroom is so dirty.

I'm starving, unluckily they only serve food during the night, how cruel.

I look up when three guards enter my room,

"Get up, a lot of guest were waiting on the battle ring"

I just looked at them emotionlessly and followed what they said.

Two of the guards harshly grab me and put handcuffs on my hands,

"It's a pity that you'll fight someone that early, you're just new here and your fight were already settled, hmm it's better than suffering here though"

One of the guards said, yeah? I'm so unlucky.

" Well, that's the price you need to pay for killing someone"

The other one replied,

"Okay"

Is all the thing I can say, 

"You still can talk like that huh? Aren't you too cocky?"

One of the guard suddenly said,

"Not really"

"Tsk, we'll see about that later, we will feed your corpse to the crocodile"

"I see...okay"

I hate talking, specially if I'm talking to a stranger,

I guess the guards are more pissed that I'm just timidly answering them,

We walked past a dark hallway and finally stopped into a big room, the guard on my left took a key then uncuff me.

"Here's a little advice miss, almost everyone of here are psycho or a serial killers, if I were you I would really be cautious, you're facing against a dangerous opponent"

He look serious,

"Pfft, are you serious? Haven't you heard? She killed her own mother, she's just like those prisoners here"

One of the guards said while opening the big door then pushed me inside, he even wink before closing it.

I look back as I heard shouts, claps and cheers, a lot of prisoners were on the benches, 

I can see different reactions from the crowd, some are shocked, well probably because they didn't know I'll be the one to be in the fight, I'm just a newbie here, and some are excited murmuring loudly.

Actually, I'm not ready for this, no one told me about battles thingy, I was just wondering why's my number up there on the ceiling, I don't even have a strength to fight, I'm starving!

"No. 3554 is already here! I know everyone is already so excited to meet her opponent! Now let us see who is 2954!" 

Someone on the speaker spoke, 

The crowd focused on the opposite door where my opponent used to enter, everyone cheered as it fully opened only to see a blonde girl wearing the same garments as mine. Her eyes widened as our eyes met and were unable to move.

Even me we're shocked, seriously? I will be up against the woman who's the reason why I'm starving right now?

"Prisoner No.3554 and prisoner No.2954, please go to the center of the battle ring as I will explain the rules"

I started walking towards the center but she was not moving as if she was glued on the ground where she's standing,

"No.2954? Please move already"

She moved but she's still looking at me,

"Y-You are No.3554?"

She asked while stuttering,

" Yeah...I never thought your number will be 2954"

" Now that our two prisoners were already here, should we start the battle? Here's the rules, it's either you'll kill or you will be killed, only one of you can get out of that ring alive, and if you don't want to fight each other? Both of you will be sentence to death, look at the boxes in your side"

I looked to my left and saw a box, Jane also have a box on her side, and yeah, my opponent will be Jane.

" Open it"

I open mine and saw different type of weapons,

"You can choose one weapon you'll use"

I stare at the daggers and the sharp edge black dagger caught my attention,

I sigh, guns will be more convenient but only blades, swords and daggers were here.

I look at Jade and she's just staring at the daggers without moving,

"If you're already done choosing then close the box so we can start already!"

"No!"

The whole crowd is noisy but Jane's voice was still heard by everyone,

"I won't perform with this bullshit bottle you held! I...I won't! I can't kill my own friend!"

I was stunned upon hearing her use the word 'friend'.

She look up and tears starts escaping on her eyes, a lot of people on the crowd starts saying 'booo' or shouting 'boring~"

" I..I can't kill you…"

She said while shaking her head,

" I..I haven't killed anyone before...I can't possibly stain my hands with blood…"

" this is all up to you two, but we will stick in our rules, only one will live, if you won't fight each other then we will kill you two, we will give you more than 30 minutes to start the fight"

With that, the speaker turned off and it is as if the whole ring were put to sound proof since we can't hear anyone, anyways, the whole ring is covered with a glass wall.

"V-Vanillope..."

I just stared blankly at her, if you're emotionally weak then you won't probably survive in this kind of place,

"I..I was accused for killing someone...my best friend framed me up...I suffered here! And now they will tell me to kill my friend?!"

She's crying while looking at me, should I feel sympathy towards her? I don't know.

Suddenly she started walking towards me while opening her arms wide.

"Vanillope...please live and just kill me...my life was nothing but misery! I'm tired of living...please just kill me..."

Her eyes were begging, for the first time as I entered this place I smiled making her eyes glitter but her eyes fell into sorrow when I showed her the dagger I chose from the box.

"As you wish"

She stopped from walking,

"Y-You will seriously kill me?"

I nodded,

"Hmm, you said you wanna die because your life was already in misery, right?"

She gulped but still continue walking towards me,

" Thank you for granting my request then, can you please at least hug me? I've been missing my best friend, and seriously, you two have the same hair colors, you somehow resemble her, even though she's the reason why I'm here, I still really love...her"

That's stupid but still I just stood there and let her wall towards me, she smile for the last time and was about to hug me but I managed to hold her wrist and push her to the ground.

"V-Vanillope? W-what are you doing?"

I smirk and pull down the sleeve of her clothes, there I saw a dagger hidden on the end of it.
