Chapter 4:

On the way to the hospital, Charlotte felt her thoughts mixed. She couldn’t help but think about what her mother had told her.

Did Joseph really betray her in the marriage?

Charlotte glanced at the injuries on her brother’s face, they weren’t that serious, but he kept yelling in pain.

Did Joseph disguise to be kind and friendly before? Was it a revenge on her through beating her brother?

She had a lot of questions in her mind, so she asked Rebecca.

“Rebecca, is it really like that... I still can’t believe that Joseph has resorted to violence against others.”

In Charlotte’s impression, Joseph had always been a gentleman, calm and friendly, never bullying others, and always resolving things in the most peaceful manner.

“Boss, you are so kind! Why wouldn’t it be possible? You’ve been thinking too highly of him. Look at the bruises on Steven’s face. It’s obvious.”

“But... my mother has never liked Joseph before. It’s more likely that they annoyed him...” Charlotte wanted to explain for Joseph, but her voice getting lower and lower.

“Boss, the fact is that Joseph has beaten your brother, no matter what the reason was, he shouldn’t revenge with violence!” Rebecca insisted her point of view, especially she despised Joseph always, thinking that Joseph was not worthy of Charlotte.

Hearing her analysis, Charlotte gave up defending her ex-husband and said, “Yes, you’re right.”

Seeing Charlotte admitting her opinion, Rebecca added, “Miss, call him and ask him to apologize. He’s really gone too far. The decision to divorce him was truly correct!”

Charlotte felt Rebecca’s words were very reasonable. She took out her phone and dialed the number.

Meanwhile, Joseph and Coco were also on the road to the hospital.

The atmosphere inside the car was silent as both of them sat quietly, each immersed in their own thoughts.

Joseph was think of his broken necklace while Coco was secretly glancing at him with curiosity.

She was curious about his identity. Why did Chamber of Commerce President Brian highly admire such a young man?

Finally, a ringtone sounded, breaking the silence.

Joseph looked at the screen lighting up and noticed the caller was Charlotte.

Joseph pressed the screen off button and leaned back against the seat, closing his eyes.

But after a few seconds, the phone rang again.

Joseph let out a sigh, finally answering it.

“What’s the matter, Miss Smith?” He asked indifferently.

Charlotte felt uncomfortable about his attitude. Joseph had never treated her like this, even calling her Miss Smith. She felt unhappy, thinking that maybe it’s true that he had been disguising himself during the whole marriage.

Therefore, she directly questioned him with icy tone, “ Joseph, did you beat Steven?”

“Yes, I did. He...”

However, he was interrupted by Charlotte before he could finish his words.

“Joseph William, You despicable guy! I have never thought you are such a bad man. Just as we got divorced, you took revenge on my families. You are so brutal! I hate you!”

Joseph was stunned by her unreasonable blame. She didn’t even ask for the reason.

“Charlotte Smith, did you know the reason? Why did I beat him?” Joseph’s voice sounds deep and icy.

“Whatever he did, you shouldn’t beat him. He’s your bro...ex-brother-in-law!” Charlotte was so domineering.

Hearing her reply, Joseph gave up arguing with her. He only felt disappointed.

“Joseph, immediately come to visit Steven and apologize to him. Or we’ll never forgive you....” Charlotte spoke so much but no response.

“Joseph?”

She looked at the screen, but found that Joseph had hung up. She felt so angry and believed Rebecca’s analysis on him much more firmly.

The fire of anger almost boiled up, and her fists clenched as she struggled to contain her disappointment at Joseph.

Rebecca stood beside her, witnessing everything from start to finish. She spoke up, “Boss, should we call the police?”

Charlotte took a deep breath to control her temper, and raised a hand to stop Rebecca, saying, “No, don’t mention it! From now on, there’s no relevance between him and me anymore. Listen, the most important thing for us currently is to get the cooperation with the Watts Family.

Rebecca still felt her boss was incredibly accommodating. Despite not being pleased, she still followed her order.

......

Meanwhile, Joseph and Coco arrived at the VIP area of Crepuscolo Hospital.

Joseph’s immediately noticed Coco’s grandfather lying on the hospital bed, breathing weakly. Around him was a team of doctors and nurses, their faces showing obvious concern as they tried to stabilize his condition.

Seeing Coco arrive, a middle-aged doctor stepped forward, removed his mask, and helplessly lowered his head, sighing.

“Miss Watts, you and your sister should prepare for the worst...”

“Shut up!” Just as the doctor was trying to squeeze out each word, a sharp and angry voice suddenly interrupted. A woman with long straight black hair, tall and slender, rebuked. She wore black business attire, looking beautiful and imposing.

Amile Watts, Coco’s elder sister, also the current head of the Watts family.

Amile’s gaze swept past Joseph and directly ignored him. Then she stepped forward and took Coco’s hand.

“Coco, everything will be OK. These doctors are useless. I’ll find other doctors and experts. If necessary, we’ll transfer grandpa abroad for treatment.”

The team of doctors and nurses felt humiliated by Amile’s words. They couldn’t help but feel angry, but ultimately they dared not do anything, because in front of them stood the two most prestigious daughters of the Watts family.

“Miss, we’ve managed our best. We’ve done everything we could do, but your grandpa’s disease is so strange...” the head doctor explained.

But now it was Coco’s turn to speak up and interrupt the doctor. “All of you, now that you cannot save my grandfather, leave this room immediately!”

The medical felt truly belittled and humiliated, but they didn’t really know what else to do. So they obeyed her words.

Even Amile was puzzled by her younger sister’s actions.

Then, after the medical team left, Coco turned to Joseph, pleading in her eyes. “Mr. William, please.”

Joseph nodded, but as he was about to get in Robinson Watts, Amile suddenly stood in front of him and gestured, blocking him.

“Hold on.”

Amile’s face showed clear hostility and confusion as she looked at Coco. “Who is him? What’s his identity?”

“Amile. this is Mr. William, Uncle Brian introduced him to me,” she explained, hoping to dispel her sister’s doubts.

However, Amile was still not convinced, her skepticism clear in her furrowed brows. “I don’t care who introduced him to you. But he’s so young that it’s doubtful whether he could cure grandpa or not.”

Joseph remained calm despite her suspicions surrounding him. Stepping forward, he caught Amile’s gaze. “Miss, I understand your concerns,” he said evenly, his voice steady despite the tense atmosphere. “But I assure you, I can cure your grandfather.”

Amile remained unmoved, her expression skeptical. “Prove it!”

“Amile!” Seeing her sister’s somewhat rude attitude, Coco rebuked softly.

But Amile still insist because she can’t just casually leave her dear grandpa’s health and safety to a stranger.

“Coco, if he’s truly capable, I’ll apologize to him! I can’t let an unknown young man without clear qualifications touch our grandfather. Do you want to regret it for the rest of your life? Grandpa has been lying there for so long, a brief delay is fine, but a little haste may lead to a lifetime of regret.”

Amile’s words were reasonable, and Coco was choked up and couldn’t say anything more.

Seeing her sister yield, Amile’s gaze shifted to Joseph.

“Fine. I don’t want to make things difficult for you either. The test I propose is for you to diagnose me. Let me know what health issues I’m currently facing.”

“Okay then. Please extend your wrist.”

“My wrist?” Amile looked at Joseph with a quizzical glance, thinking, this man must be an Eastern medicine wizard? Can he diagnose someone’s illness with no medical equipment or tools?

In Amile’s mind, Joseph must be a quack, but to prove it to her sister, she still extended her hand.

Placing his hand on Amile’s wrist, Joseph closed his eyes, focusing on the rhythm of her pulse beneath his fingertips. Gradually, he assessed her symptoms, his mind racing as he searched for answers.

After careful consideration, Joseph opened his eyes, his expression serious yet determined. “You’re experiencing endocrine disorders,” he said confidently. “As a result, you have headaches and diarrhea.”
