Chapter 5:

Amile was astonished. She had never experienced Eastern medicine, let alone expected a young man like Joseph to grasp such methods. These were indeed the recent issues she had been facing. With the head of the family in trouble, Amile herself had been struggling. Her routines disrupted, her eating habits erratic, and she indeed experienced endocrine disorders, often having headaches. Last night, she indulged in a few things and immediately had stomach issues. Amile had recently taken quite a few medications, but her body had yet to fully recover.

Witnessing her sister’s astonishment, Coco understood that Joseph’s diagnosis was accurate. Coco’s trust in this young man surged. She looked at him hopefully, now with no hesitation in urging him to step forward to her grandfather’s bedside.

“Please, save my grandfather,” she implored.

Joseph nodded. But Amile still stubbornly blocked his path.

“Have you got information from the servant beside me, or the doctors in this area?” Amile still couldn’t completely trust. Amile still couldn’t completely trust Joseph, a skilled quack, to handle her grandfather’s illness, which wasn’t just a common cold or fever.

Joseph sighed deeply, his patience wearing thin by the minute. Coco noticed the change in his emotions, and in the end, she could only intervene herself. She pulled Amile aside. If they waited any longer, Coco feared something might happen to her grandfather. They had no choice but to take a gamble.

He sat down, carefully placing his hand to feel the pulse. As he had predicted when he saw the patient’s skin just now, Coco’s grandfather had been poisoned. Joseph’s expression darkened. This wasn’t just any poison; it could easily outwit Western doctors.

Because this wasn’t just poison; it was a curse. A curse as cunning as a serpent from the distant lands of Myanmar.

Joseph helped the patient sit up, pinpointing several vital points to maintain balance. The treatment method was actually very simple. He used energy from his palm, placing his hands on two positions near Coco’s grandfather’s heart.

A thin stream of energy, invisible to the naked eye, gradually penetrated deep into the patient’s body. Something had hindered the act of delivering energy, so Joseph had to exert twice the effort. Sweat beaded on his forehead, his hands tightened. This scene was stranger and more realistic than any Eastern medicine scenes Amile had ever seen.

For some reason, she also felt anxious.

After a while, Joseph finally felt the regular circulation of blood, and he stopped. When blood could flow, toxins in the internal organs would be expelled.

He stood up, facing the tense and suspicious gazes of the two Watt family sisters. He smiled gently.

“You don’t need to worry anymore; the treatment is complete.”

Both were stunned. Amile immediately sneered, clearly thinking Joseph was just a charlatan. He wanted to take the money and run even before her grandfather woke up!

“It’s not a matter of time. This is Mr. Watt’s illness. Modern techniques won’t be able to detect it. This is an ancient curse from the East. I have suppressed the curse to aid the patient, but we still need to combine it with herbal medicine to erase it.”

Joseph prepared his equipment again, then said, “I’ll first prepare the medicine. You two maintain Mr. Watt’s current posture for an hour and a half. Absolutely no mistakes, or the consequences will be unpredictable.”

Joseph’s commanding attitude made Amile uncomfortable. She wanted to say a few more sarcastic words, but he had already left, leaving her no choice but to swallow this bitter pill.

Just about five minutes after Joseph went to prepare the medicine, a group of doctors came to visit the patient’s room.

Amile glanced at them indifferently, feeling a sense of disdain. Since her grandfather came here, she didn’t know how many people had claimed to be experienced doctors, but in the end, none of them could figure anything out, nor did they help improve her grandfather’s condition.

They often cast longing looks at her, or at the shining golden name of the Watt family behind her. Amile paid them no mind; these people were all just opportunists.

Only Coco stood up carefully to greet the new group of doctors. The leader of the team was a middle-aged man with a balding head. He calmly introduced himself. “I’m Willock, the hospital director. Since I’ve been briefed on the chairman’s condition, I’ll be conducting the examination today. I apologize for making you wait.”

Amile raised her head slightly to look at the man in front of her, her eyes filled with expectation. It was because of this man that her family had chosen Hospital A for Mr. Watt’s treatment. Both inside and outside the industry knew that everyone considered this hospital director a medical genius.

He had achieved many impressive feats, winning awards multiple times for successful research on important medications. He held considerable power and influence in the field, and sometimes, even money couldn’t secure his medical services.

Amile immediately changed her attitude. She stood up to show her respect, quickly speaking up, “If that’s the case, please quickly assess my grandfather’s condition.”

Willock nodded, as if he had expected it. He approached the patient’s bed, and Coco quickly moved aside to make room for the hospital director. As he looked at the current situation, he became startled and almost exclaimed, “What have you people done to Mr. Watt?”

It was indeed extremely bizarre for a comatose patient to be sitting up straight with their eyes closed. Willock quickly approached to help Mr. Watt lie down, but immediately, a hand reached out to stop him. Coco pulled him aside, her face confused.

“Can’t you examine the patient without changing his position?”

“Why would you think that?”

Willock frowned, annoyed. The patient was already in such a state; maintaining the posture was difficult enough. If there was no complete rest, how could there be any chance of treatment?

Coco noticed the doctor’s suspicion and had to explain, “Our family’s private doctor has already examined and treated him. This posture is his requirement. If it’s changed, there might be a big problem.”

Willock raised an eyebrow. “What’s the name of that doctor?”

“He’s very young, named Joseph.”

“Never heard of him.” Willock shook his head. If he was someone famous in the field, he would surely know the name. But this person, unknown and with no apparent connection, using such peculiar medical methods... He looked at Coco and gave a faint smile, “Forgive me for being blunt, but no matter how confused you all are, you shouldn’t seek someone new like this. I’ve never heard of treating patients in such a way before. Compared to a seasoned doctor, he sounds more like a fraud! Alright, miss, do you trust that strange man or Willock here?”

Willock’s reputation had a powerful influence on the industry, making Coco unable to decide in an instant. At this moment, Amile finally had to pull her aside, whispering softly,

“Don’t risk my grandfather’s life to test the medicine of that person. If something happens, there will be no time for regret! If you keep hesitating like this, I’m afraid Willock will leave.”

Coco looked at the hospital director and realized that he was very dissatisfied with being compared in medical skills to a young man. This person’s temperament was unpredictable, and at that moment... Coco was afraid she would lose both sides.

Joseph’s reminder before he left still echoed in her ears. Just as she was hesitating, Willock couldn’t wait any longer and approached. She looked in shock at the scene before her. Mr. Watt, who had been calm before, suddenly convulsed, blood spurting from his mouth in violent bursts, his complexion turning unnaturally pale.

The scene immediately descended into chaos.
