Chapter 6:

Healthcare staff pushed Coco and Amile out of the patient’s room. The surgical light came on, and a thick door blocked their view, preventing them from seeing anything happening inside.

Amile clasped her hands in prayer, and Coco was no better. She berated herself for being foolish enough to let those people touch her grandfather without following Joseph’s advice. If anything happened to him now, she wouldn’t know what to do.

Coco quickly pulled her phone out of her pocket and dialed a number. After a moment, the call on the other end cut off. Joseph’s voice sounded angry, but she couldn’t say a word.

After a while, the door to the room opened.

Amile and Coco rushed over anxiously. They grabbed onto Willock’s clothes, loudly asking, “How is my grandfather? How is he?”

The confident demeanor of the hospital director from earlier had now disappeared without a trace. He avoided looking directly at them, his gaze slightly unnatural, as he announced, “Your family should start preparing for the worst. The patient’s health may not last much longer.”

Amile trembled with fear, hands covering her mouth in disbelief. Just moments ago, she believed that everything had been resolved thoroughly, and that her grandfather’s life was no longer threatened. Yet now, he spoke such ominous words!

Coco grabbed Willock by the collar, her eyes flashing with cold electricity. She gritted her teeth, growling like a wounded animal, “I warned you not to touch him! Who gave you the authority to do that! If your medical skills are lacking, don’t harm others like this!”

Willock’s face turned red with embarrassment, pushing Coco’s hand away. After many achievements in the field, this was the first time someone criticized him as useless. The accumulated arrogance of many years made Willock unable to maintain his composure. He retorted, “This is not our fault at all! If it weren’t for the interference of some quack, I could have saved Mr. Watt’s life!”

“Shut up!”

The sound of a slap echoed without reservation, and everyone looked towards where the sound came from. Willock grabbed onto the edge of a falling window, seemingly unable to believe it.

Coco wiped her hands with a scented handkerchief, her voice icy. “If you lack both talent and virtue, then get out of this profession. You fraud! Don’t think your incompetence can drag others down and don’t use that tone to speak to me! The Watt family’s wealth is enough to make a doctor disappear from the profession in silence!”

Willock fell silent, his trembling hands clenched tightly. Another voice suddenly shattered the awkward atmosphere. The newcomer was a young man with a high forehead and bright eyes. He gazed at the hospital door, speaking up, “Let me in to check on the patient.”

Joseph had finally arrived, and Coco rejoiced. She didn’t wait for Willock’s consent, who was frowning on the other side, but immediately spoke up. “Quick! Go in! My grandfather is in danger!”

Joseph nodded, carrying his medical bag. Willock couldn’t stand being humiliated by someone younger by over ten years, so he pursued suit. The door to the room opened once again, revealing Mr. Watt in a precarious state on the hospital bed, his condition almost breathless, causing Coco’s heartache and tears to well up.

“I said not to change his position! Look at the mess you’ve made!”

Scolded, but even the proud Miss Coco dared not retort. The hospital director, who liked to stick his head into the lion’s mouth, sneered, “Young man, let me give you some advice, don’t show off in front of a master. Where did you learn such useless things?”

Joseph ignored his words. He checked Mr. Watt’s pulse, his brows furrowing. Seeing this pretense, the hospital director once again provoked, “Stop pretending! If there’s any mishap with Mr. Watt, it’s all on you! He was resting well in our hospital, but you forced him into this position, causing his health to deteriorate rapidly. I suggest you take care of yourself instead of pretending to be professional in front of me!”

Joseph sighed in annoyance, not bothering to even glance at him. Using the authority of the Watt family’s young miss, Coco was the only one who was angry, scolding loudly. She looked much more powerful and intimidating than her own sister, Amile.

“If you can’t do anything good, then keep your mouth shut! Don’t bother my people who are trying to save lives!” Joseph wanted to straighten Mr. Watt’s back once again, but Willock’s sudden shout interrupted, “Don’t casually touch the patient!”

Joseph had reached his limit. He turned to Coco, his eyes filled with seriousness. “If that’s the case, then you handle the funeral arrangements. I’m out.”

Another crisp “shut up” rang out. Willock’s face instantly turned red. For the second time in a day, a woman hit him without restraint. Utterly stunned, he couldn’t react before Coco spoke again. “Get lost!”

Under the intimidating power behind Coco, Willock could only remain silent, obediently leaving the hospital room in a trembling rage.

Coco turned her gaze back to Joseph, pleading, “It’s all my fault for not managing it properly. Please, waste no more time saving my grandfather.”

Joseph said nothing, continuing to help Mr. Watt sit up. He first palpated a few acupuncture points, then calmly turned to speak. “I didn’t expect the situation to be so serious just now, and I haven’t prepared all the medicinal ingredients. I’ll need you to gather more.”

Coco eagerly nodded. He then read off several herbal ingredients. Besides those, there were also some strange requests: centipedes, moth wings, and fly legs. Each item came in pairs, causing Amile, who was standing by, to widen her eyes in horror.

Joseph said nothing more, turning away to infuse Mr. Watt with qi.

As they prepared the items, Joseph’s work of infusing qi was proceeding tensely. Onlookers could see him enduring extreme fatigue, sweat dripping from his forehead despite the 10-degree weather.

Willock stood outside observing, silently cursing, “Such a pretentious act!”
