Chapter 8:

David sobbed like a child. He clung to his mother to recount his woes, “That wretched fellow was so cruel... Only my son suffers.”

Mrs. Smith felt for her son, grinding her teeth towards the culprit who dared to harm her child. But simply cursing wouldn’t even begin to weaken Joseph’s determination. David, in a pitiful state, shouted, “Mom! Mom, you must avenge me! We must skin him alive. This grudge is unbearable!”

Mrs. Smith had no reason to refuse her son’s request. And this son of hers didn’t even need to ask; she already wanted to teach that traitorous wretch a lesson. It was just a necklace, yet it behaved like a rabid dog, daring to harm her beloved son.

At this moment, the door suddenly opened. A pair of shiny black leather shoes stepped in cautiously. The newcomer wore a fake smile and a sly look, but to Mrs. Smith’s eyes, it was a gentle expression.

It was none other than Anthony, who had been pursuing Charlotte in recent days. He carried a gift basket for David and immediately broached the main topic. “Forgive me. I overheard everything outside the door just now. I never expected Miss Charlotte to have had a marital relationship with such a low-character fellow. I’m also quite uncomfortable with this, so I would like to propose a solution...”

Anthony’s polite and courteous words immediately won Mrs. Smith’s favor. She nodded in satisfaction, saying, “No need to worry. Proceed as you see fit.”

“The power of our family is great; it will be more convenient for us to handle this. We don’t need to use the family’s name to intimidate such a person. We’ll just stir up trouble to give others a chance to ridicule him. Contact some gangs nearby, I have some very capable contacts. It is essential to ensure security, and I assure you we will utterly ruin the victim’s life, which will surely satisfy everyone.”

David’s eyes lit up immediately. He loved this ruthless and cunning approach. Repaying blood debts with blood, making that wretch suffer for a lifetime, was a perfect ending.

Mrs. Smith also liked this approach. Dealing with the inferior required using a bunch of inferiors; they didn’t need to dirty their own hands. She smiled and nodded gently. “Alright, no need to discuss further. Let our family’s power handle it.”

In an unnoticed moment, Anthony smirked slyly.

As they discussed plans for revenge against Joseph, the hospital room door opened once again. All three looked cautiously at the figure, seeing a familiar face full of worry drop its facade of mischief when discovered doing something nefarious.

The visitor was Charlotte, her forehead sweaty, her beautiful face furrowed. She had overheard part of the conversation while waiting outside. Honestly, she never thought that just because of a scuffle, someone’s future would be on the verge of a ruin like this.

She pursed her lips and, approaching David, who was furious, suddenly spoke up, “Can’t we forgive Joseph?”

David stopped abruptly, looking at his sister. His furrowed brow revealed his displeasure. He interrogated, “Why are you speaking up for an outsider? Forgiveness is definitely out of the question. That scoundrel must kneel before me, beg for forgiveness! Just a mere necklace, yet he dared to touch the eldest son of our family!”

Charlotte’s expression instantly changed. She trembled slightly, saying, “Just a necklace...? Did you damage the necklace that Joseph was wearing..?”

David nodded, causing Charlotte to suddenly become angry. She scolded him, even Mrs. Smith, but their attitudes remained unchanged.

Charlotte looked at her family, a profound disappointment overwhelming her. She could only leave despondently.

After completing the therapy session, Coco and Joseph rode in a private car back to the spacious mansion of the Watts family. Amile was busy handling remaining matters at the hospital, so Coco could fully entrust her sister with those concerns. Although Amile was conservative, her capabilities were beyond question.

Joseph, reserved and stoic, neither sought recognition nor engaged in further conversation. Throughout the journey, Joseph remained mostly silent, a demeanor that made someone as socially adept as Coco feel slightly awkward.

To be frank, this doctor was young, but not one to flatter or seek to expand relationships cunningly. He came and went as if solely to show his exceptional skills, then retreated into a reclusive life.

Suddenly, Coco produced a shiny bank card before Joseph, grinning mischievously. “This is your reward for saving my grandfather.”

Joseph glanced over, his indifferent gaze resting on Coco’s beautiful face, as he chuckled faintly. “As per our initial agreement, I require escargot, not material rewards. You need a doctor, not distractions like this.”

Calmly, Coco lowered the card, speaking composedly. “Don’t worry. We will deliver the escargot; the Watts family values integrity above all. And the bank card is my personal gesture, under my name. You deserve these, so don’t be overly modest.”

Before Joseph could say more, the car abruptly came to a halt. The sudden stop jolted both of them forward, leaving them perplexed. Ahead, the driver swiftly opened the door and fled. They exchanged glances, suspicion rising in each other’s eyes.

Acting quickly, Coco tried to open the car door to see what was going on, but Joseph stopped her by firmly pulling her back. He shook his head, showing the rear window frame. It was then that Coco grasped the situation.

A group of over 20 rugged individuals, all scarred and menacing surrounded them. Each wielded a weapon, be it crude clubs or military knives, exuding a palpable sense of hostility.

A leader approached their car, his smirk visible through the window, revealing a set of dirty, gold-stained teeth. “It’s best if both of you step out and cooperate. I don’t want to resort to violence against women. Don’t worry, I just want to take you both to meet our boss, nothing extravagant.”

The approaching figure harbored no goodwill; this was not an invitation but a blatant threat. Coco, seated in the car, observed the imposing gang outside with a faint smile. She directed her question to the leader on the other side. “Who stands behind you?”
