I saw from afar two pairs of eyes stalking me behind the trees as I ran to the shelter. The road to the shelter is wide open grass so it is quite safe unless there are flying animals like the mosquitoes yesterday. It's still early today, most likely I can safely get to the shelter.
When I was about a few tens of meters from the shelter, the people in the shelter had seen me. I know because there are several windows that open from behind the high walls of the shelter's dome. They must have known I was approaching. They were just getting ready to set off on the hunt today. I wanted to scream for help, for someone to pick me up with a flaming torch, but I discouraged myself. Not because I'm too proud to do it, but because I'm sure no one will help me. I was on my own.
I actually saw something flying towards me. I didn't know what it was, because I didn't dare look anywhere. I focused myself on running as fast as I could until my lungs felt like they were going to explode. I saw several people standing at the gate, but did not open the door.
"Open! Please open the door!" I cried when I was only a few meters away from the shelter's door.
However, the gate never opened. I was already in front of the gate and frantically pounding on the gate.
"Help!" I shouted again.
I then looked back and realized that the flying things were two giant bald-headed birds. From the appearance alone, I was sure that it was a vulture. They were similar in shape to the vultures I knew in my world, but much bigger and unfortunately they didn't just eat carrion. I can dig into Rex's mind and know that they are interested in carrion, but also like to kill those who are still alive like me. Maybe they were attracted by the smell of the raw meat I had in my sack and when they came they saw me as a nice bonus for breakfast.
They flew closer very quickly and I was in a lot of panic. I pounded hard on the gate, but they wouldn't open it. I don't know what took them so long. The two birds were really close and in a few seconds would grab my body.
"Fast!" I shouted.
My voice broke with hysterics and panic, preparing to take a hit from the bald birds' sharp beaks. However, at the same second, suddenly the gate opened and I fell inside. They immediately closed the shelter gate again and I heard a thump as the birds hit the gate.
I breathed a sigh of relief, but then I looked around, everyone was looking at me like a ghost. They probably thought I was dead since last night. Although covered in wounds and blood, I'm fine and it's a miracle.
"Rex Hito, how did you come back?" asked the leader of the hunt. His name is Khores Fraim.
“I-I… I have awakened,” I answered. I don't know what else to say other than that.
As soon as those words left my mouth, everyone was stunned. Whispers and flabbergasted voices rang out from all around. Everyone looked at me with strange looks and widened eyes. It feels so awkward.
"Don't tell lies, kid!" Rais Musi shouted with his face red.
"I am not lying!" I answered loudly.
Everyone was surprised because I dared to say that to Rais Musi. The man immediately pushed me so that I completely fell backwards and fell back to the ground.
“This child is trash! I told you we'd better let the birds eat him!" Rais shouted angrily.
This guy really doesn't like me, I don't know why. I started to suspect him. Before I got lost, Rais was the one who told me to collect blue fruits. Could it be on purpose? However, I can't accuse without proof.
"I'm telling the truth!" I shouted.
Rais wanted to hit my face but Khores quickly held his hand.
"Wait Rais! Calm down!” he cried while telling Rais to take a few steps back.
“Stand up, kid. Tell me how did you survive?” Khores asked me.
“I have awakened, Khores. I'm telling the truth," I replied.
"Nonsense! No one can awaken without the help of the High Priest through the ceremony!” shouted someone from among the group. Noises began to be heard from everywhere.
"Stop!" shouted someone who appeared out of nowhere.
I was surprised when I saw a tall and slim man. He wore clothes that were slightly different from the other Flaming Totem tribes. His long, white beard almost touched his chest. I didn't know this person was here. From Rex's memory, I know that this man is the High Priest, his name is Ton Anam. He is the most respected person here. As soon as he came, everyone bowed and I did the same.
The man came towards me and stopped right in front of me.
“Stand up straight, kid. Let me see you," he told me.
I gulped, but I did as he was told. I straightened my body and looked at him. His face looks very old and wrinkled, but his face looks friendly. Even so, his aura and charisma made me a little scared and shy.
The next thing that happened took me completely by surprise. Before I could do anything, nimbly and very quickly, the geezer took out something like a beast's fang and put it right above my head. I had aches and pains on my scalp and I'm sure my blood must be flowing out of it. I wanted to move, but strangely I couldn't. I thought this old man would kill me like this.
However, suddenly an extremely blinding light caused everyone to close their eyes, some using their hands. At first, I didn't know where the light was coming from, but a second later I realized that the light was coming from me, precisely from my head.
"Show me the truth!" cried the old man.
Right after his exclamation, there were flames burning all over my body, but I was not burned. Everyone was stunned to see me.
Everyone was stunned to see me. I didn't understand what the high priest did to me. Is this some kind of punishment? However, I didn't feel any pain, only a slight pain in my head from the sharp tool in the old man's hand. After a few seconds, the man removed the sharp instrument from my head and stood looking straight at me.“You really have been awakened! You are now Totem Warriors!” he exclaimed.I gulped. Was this something bad? Wasn't awakening a good thing? I was not sure now, because everyone's eyes on me were too scary. They saw me like a ghost now."This is impossible," said Rais.“You've seen it for yourself. You doubt my ability, Rais?" asked the High Priest.“No, Your Majesty. I don't dare," Rais answered.“Your Highness, we are wasting too much time. We have to start hunting before it gets dark,” said Khores.Everyone started to get restless while looking up at the sky. The sun was shining brightly, a sign that we were too late to go hunting."We'll talk later. Go hunting
I think my hands were shaking even more as I held the spear and sweat started pouring down. Without realizing it, I started thinking about the golden tree. Instantly I saw a golden tree floating before my eyes and I could see it was shining brightly. At the same time, I saw clearly how Khores was aiming his arrow at the beast that had started to appear again from the surface of the water. The beast swiftly flew into the air with a terrifying growl. I just found out that fish can growl."You're dead!" exclaimed Khores as he fired his fiery arrow at the beast. The young Totem Warrior next to me frantically told me to go, but somehow I couldn't move. I could see my whole body shining because of that golden tree and I was sure no one could see it but me. My eyes couldn't leave Khores and his movement shot the beast.“Quickly go, you stupid boy!” cried the young Totem Warrior beside me in panic as well as anger.I panicked myself and wanted to follow him, but I couldn't, I was rooted to th
I can't take off my clothes here because some of the kids including Rea from the logistics team are girls. It just feels uncomfortable showing off Rex's tiny figure here. So I kept on wearing my clothes while trying to wash off all the dirt from my body. I don't know when these people last bathed, but they don't seem to be in the mood to wash up. Oddly enough, Rex's nose seemed to be used to it all. After this, I might become the cleanest person in the Totem Flaming Tribe. When I took a shower, there were small fish that were colorful and glow in the dark approaching me. My heart was beating fast because I was afraid that these fish were dangerous. However, I got information from Rex's mind that these fish are friendly and harmless. They are so beautiful and I smile because of it. However, I don't have time to admire them now, Khores looked uneasy."Come on, quickly! We just got one beast!” Chores shouted. His eyes looked up at the sky and were also wary of the surroundings. We might
I tried to pretend I didn't see the golden tree floating real right before my eyes. Keep it low-key, I told myself, but I couldn't get the golden tree out of my mind. Unknowingly, my steps slowed down and I almost fell behind. I don't know why Bill can run so fast.At the same time, I heard a huge rumbling sound right from behind us. I looked back and dust was flying like a tornado was about to hit. However, my guess was wrong, because a second later I saw giant wings.“Shit,” I muttered.“Run faster, you fool!” Bil exclaimed to me.I immediately ran as fast as I could because I didn't know what beasts were behind us. Of course, these beasts weren't the kind we could hunt, that's why Khores told us to run immediately. We ran to pick up the logistics team who were already getting ready. They immediately ran with us. From the direction Khores ran, I could guess that we were heading back to the shelter. I glanced up at the sky and realized that the sun was already leaning towards the wes
Now those ugly creatures started flying low towards me. They immediately spat at me in a barrage and I quickly dodged them."Bil!" I screamed as loud as I could, even though I knew he wouldn't come back to get me. No one's coming back to pick me up."No!" I shouted again when one of the beasts swooped down on me.I can only imagine that golden tree again and hope I don't die from being eaten by this ugly, black-spitting thing. Suddenly I felt fire coming out of my fingertips. My eyes widened when I saw the fire that had only appeared on my fingertips, suddenly the fire spread throughout my body very quickly.Just like when the High Priest was trying to prove that I was awakened, my body was burning but I didn't feel hot in the slightest. I don't know what I was thinking at that time but I immediately strangled the ugly creature's neck that was in front of my eyes and set its body on fire. His screams were deafening and perhaps the whole forest would hear them. Out of disgust, I slamme
“We only have one beast,” whispered Noe in a very low voice, almost soundless."So?" I asked innocently. I frowned. What's wrong with one beast? Isn't the most important thing we are safe? At least most of us survived.Noe let out a short sigh while shaking his head at my question. I feel like my question just now was a stupid question. The answer seems so obvious, but I really don't get it."Khores should bear the shame," said Noe. He whispered so slowly that he barely moved his mouth. I looked at him and understood what he was saying. Of course, he had to say it very slowly, if anyone heard then they both could die. I wanted to ask again, but I held back. I don't want Noe to be in danger because of my stupid question.I decided to shut up and figure it out myself. More precisely, I dug into Rex's mind for answers. I discovered that the prestige of the Totem Warriors was in the hunt. The more beasts that are killed and brought to the shelter, the greater the prestige. On the other ha
I ate the beast meat that tasted like seafood afterward, ignoring the many eyes staring at me. I was pretty sure that what I was eating was that ugly fish that had killed one of the young totem warriors right before my eyes. I didn't care anymore what I eat, whatever it tasted or looked like because I'm so hungry and I need the energy to stay alive. A month ago, maybe I would be picky about my food. I would judge its look and smell, before trying to taste it, but now everything has changed so quickly. Now I know what it's like to eat just to survive. After I felt full, I didn't waste much time and went straight into the tent to sleep. Bloody marks had appeared above the red moon earlier, but I didn't notice them because I was in the shelter. The totem warriors use their powers to make everyone feel better. I didn't pay attention to when the flashing flames appeared, but I saw that the children from the logistics team were able to breathe freely and eat earlier even though they looked
We walked stealthily and I don't know why because I didn't hear or feel anything. My heart was pounding because if I could feel or hear something things wouldn't be so dire. I wouldn't have known if a beast suddenly snapped my head from my neck if I couldn't feel their presence. After walking for a while, I finally heard a snort from behind the trees. Now I realized that in front of us, something was hiding behind the shady trees.“Rex, check it out,” Rais Musi said to me.I widened my eyes. I can't believe that Rais Musi would order me to do that. He did it on purpose, I'm pretty sure now. Experienced Totem Warrior would not order a kid like Rex to come forward and examine a beast that had yet to make out."Quickly!" he cried again in a whisper.I couldn't argue with or refuse his order, so I was forced to step my foot forward. I gripped my spear tightly, even though I had no idea what to do with it. My heart was beating really fast and my knees felt weak, but I had to keep going and
The light of the full moon envelops the room with a magical glow, creating a magical and serene atmosphere. Moonlight gently kissed Nola's face which was tense with pain. I stood by her side, my right hand holding hers tightly, conveying warmth and strength from every touch. But the healers want me outside, so I have to go out.“Arghhh!! It hurts!" she cried, the sound of the night's silence interrupted by a cry of pain. The healers forbade me from entering the room, and I could only hear moans and screams from behind the door. Anxiety swept through my heart, I couldn't wait to hear news about Nola's condition.Suddenly, a healer came out of the room and approached me.“My King, you can come in and accompany the Queen,” he said to me.I went into the room and held Nola's hand. Nola held my hand tightly, her eyes staring at the ceiling of the room filled with darkness. Deep moans escaped her lips every time a contraction hit. The light of the full moon, even though it couldn't enter th
That morning, the sunlight played games with the leaves, creating a magical blend of shade and golden glow. The fresh scent of flowers and herbs wafts in the clean air. It was as if nature itself was participating in celebrating this historic moment. The once simple assembly hall now sparkles in the splendor of natural jewels. Folded flags made of silk fluttered brilliantly, and decorations made from dried leaves and fresh flowers decorated every corner of the room. The light from the shining totems reflected the colors of life, implying a new awakening of their power.A moment before the sunlight reached its peak, I came to Nola who was getting ready in the preparation room. The soft light from the crystal chandelier reflected a beautiful glow on her dress made from natural materials, giving her an aura of stunning elegance. When she turned around to see me, her sweet smile filled the room. "Ares," she said in a soft voice that seemed to wash away my nervousness. "You shouldn't have
In an increasingly debilitating state, my voice broke in the reflection of the vibrations of light around us. Light flashed, creating an invisible yet powerful energy network. "I won't give up, even though my body feels increasingly fragile. I won't let you be trapped in this darkness, Nola," I said with trembling determination. The words seemed to be a mantra, strengthening my will even when my body could barely support itself. The Shadow Diamond Totem, glowing with fading black light, spoke in a voice filled with urgency. "Ares Jones, we don't have much time. We have to hurry. Nola needs us.""The Grand Healing Totem's light is starting to fade," she added, her voice filled with determination but sounding fragile. "We have very limited time, Ares Jones."Deep anxiety welled up within me, making me realize that not only these totems were on the verge of destruction, but also Nola and my own life. However, I knew I couldn't give up. It is my mission to reunite Nola's divided soul. Des
The dream just disappeared, fading into endless darkness, and Nola seemed to disappear from my field of vision. I remained asleep, without dreams or images haunting my mind. My body responded deeply to rest, immersing me in an undefined dream world. Abstract images awaken and disappear over an immeasurable span of time. Nola, as if closely linked to the dream world, moved far from the horizon of my mind, disappearing in the surrounding darkness. As morning approached, the sun's rays seeped in through the thin curtains, painting streaks of light on the walls of the tent. I woke up slowly, thrown back into the real world. Rex stood tall by Nola's side, his eyes reflecting a deep worry, hinting at thoughts hovering over the worst possible possibilities."How is she doing, Rex?" I said in a voice that was still hoarse, following the footsteps of the dreamland I had just grasped.Rex looked at me sincerely, his eyes filled with deep worry. “She is still in a weak state; there are no signi
The aroma of spices and herbs filled the air when my eyes opened. My body felt heavy as if all my energy had been drained. Gathering the power to repair The Shadow Diamond Totem was indeed a tiring task.Beside me, Mora stood with a concerned look. "Ares, you are lucky to have survived. But don't underestimate your strength. Don't forget your own limits," he said in a soft voice, hand holding out a healing potion. It tastes bitter but immediately brings freshness to my body."Thank you, Mora. It feels like I was born again," I said with a faint smile.Mora smiled softly. "You will be fine, Ares. The entire tribe is grateful for your sacrifice," she said, her eyes shining with respect."Where is The Shadow Diamond Totem?" I demanded, my curiosity peaked.Mora looked at me warmly. "She is resting in the Shadow Totem Tribe's temple. She needs time to recover her strength from all this."She went to tell the others that I had woken up. Not long after, Toth Karan and the totem warriors ent
In the chaotic battlefield, with magic explosions and echoing groans, I stood before The Shadow Diamond Totem who kept screaming. Her body swayed, trying to break free from the totem warrior's bindings, but her strength only depleted further.I realized that in a state like this, where she was still conscious and twitching wildly, it was very difficult for me to repair her totem codes. My concentration must be stronger than before. However, I can't watch her continue to suffer like this."Get some more blood, we need her weaker!" I ordered several nearby totem warriors. They responded swiftly, opening buckets of blood and meticulously watering The Shadow Diamond Totem. Every drop of blood entered her body, producing the desired effect. However, the woman's desperate screams still roared, filling the battlefield. Bil, with tense eyes, found his courage. "She has to pass out, Ares. We need you completely focused," he said, trying to calm himself and decide on that bold move. I nodded fi
All the totem warriors, men and women who dared to face this darkness, had positioned themselves behind a tight wall of protection. Their eyes were full of determination and firmness as they waited for his next order. The air was thick with tension, and only the sound of the gentle breeze blowing through the leaves could be heard.Only I dared to stand in the middle of the open field, in front of The Shadow Diamond Totem that was almost formed. Swirls of wind and black smoke surrounded him, creating an extremely frightening effect, as if he was the dark embodiment of the subconscious.I was tireless, even though every fiber of my muscle felt tense, and my breath came in short gasps. With strong will, I transferred energy from myself to The Shadow Diamond Totem, seeking to fill the void within him with light and goodness. However, the longer I used my energy, the more tired I became. As weakness began to creep in, I could no longer hold back the cry of exhaustion. "Ahhh!" my cry trembl
The three of us called all the tribe leaders for a meeting at the meeting camp. Tough and cool-headed steps are the price that must be paid to save Nola. Moonlight radiated softly in the night sky, giving this gathering a sacred feel.Toth Karan sat with a serious attitude, his deep eyes filled with deep worry. Rex, with his might, gave off an aura of confidence in every word he spoke. I, trying to hold tightly to my anxious heart, stood in front of the leaders who looked at me with hope."Leaders, we have important news we need to convey," I said in a calm but authoritative voice. "I have found information in the Totem Code Book that can help us save Nola and return the Shadow Diamond Totem to its original state."Mora looked at me curiously. "Original state? What do you mean Ares?"“In the past, this totem was a source of goodness for this tribe. However, there was damage that caused the totem code to have problems. "If we can fix it, the totem will return to being a source of goodn
After eating the beast meat provided by Toth Karan, the feeling of fatigue in my body began to recede. New energy flowed through me, reigniting my enthusiasm to complete this mission."Thank you, Toth Karan. This meat really helps me," I said gratefully to Toth Karan.Toth Karan nodded with a warm smile. "That's good to hear, leader. Is there anything else I can do for you?"I thought for a moment, then finally decided. "Toth Karan, I need some time alone. Can you leave me here so I can concentrate?"Toth Karan nodded in understanding. "Of course, Ares. I'll leave you alone. If you need me again, I'll be in my cabin."After Toth Karan left, I returned to focusing on the thick book open in front of me. Carefully, I touched the surface and started reading again with full concentration. As I delved deeper into the contents of the book, my spiritual eyes began to drift over the pages filled with runic writings and symbols. I began to feel the energy of the totem code book itself radiating
