For the entire nine years, the fact that he lacked special abilities tortured Axel. But he knew what real pain was like a year ago. His lifeless eyes drifted to the open window leading to the ceiling balcony. Memories flashed in his brain, attacking his whole being like poisonous gas. He coughed up blood and collapsed to the ground. Dead, dull eyes still continued to gaze at the balcony, as if doing so could bring back his cheerful, bright brother who would pat his head and say, "Welcome home."
One year ago, on this very day, he received the news that his brother had died. His brother's guild members filled the entire yard, carrying his unrecognizable body. His limbs were horribly torn from his main body, his face utterly disfigured. It was a miracle these people could recognize his brother as their guild master, 'Nyx'. Axel, however, with just one look, immediately recognized him. Was it because they shared the same blood running in their veins? Or because they had the same genes? The brother he waited for day and night, whose messages he eagerly awaited on his phone from early morning until late at night, whose face brightened his desolate world... was now lying lifelessly in front of him.
Axel collapsed in front of his brother's body. When he woke up again, the guild members handed him Nyx's ashes. Their faces were filled with tears, their voices hoarse. Axel listened as they explained that they did not burn Nyx's body; the tower did, just as it always did to bodies that died inside it. They had managed to retrieve his whole body because of a spell, but the spell only lasted twenty-four hours. After that, once undone, the Tower would burn the body into ashes, erasing the dead body's existence. That was how the Tower got its name, "Tower of Erase."
The guild members were unsure if Axel was listening, but they continued to babble on. They narrated how Nyx had wanted to challenge the 50th floor by himself. They tried to stop him, but Nyx was a stubborn fellow. Once his mind was set, he would do it regardless of what anyone said. So they had no choice but to let him go, expecting his return. Instead, what came out of the 50th floor gate was Nyx's broken body...
From start to finish, Axel did not say anything. He just sat on the ground, caressing the jar that held his brother's ashes. The guild members stayed by his side and left when it grew late. There was no burial, no ceremonies. Axel did not express a desire for one, so the guild members did not initiate anything, but they mourned with Axel. Remembering it now, Axel's eyes lifted toward the stairs. Right, he had to change his clothes. His brother always told him to change first before having dinner.
Axel didn't know how the night had passed or how he had gotten up the next morning. He didn't even know how he had made it to school. All he knew was that he was now numb from the pain.
For some reason, a group of boys had grabbed his collar on his way to his classroom and brought him to the schoolyard. Today was their special ability training class. All third-year students were mandated to attend this class to learn how to use their powers properly.
However, for some reason, these students dragged him onto the field. Since Axel didn't have any powers, he was exempt from attending the class. Since he was deemed useless, his classmates found a better way to make use of him: as a living target for them to practice their abilities on.
Axel couldn't move his hands. They tied him up to the basketball field fence, tightly binding both his hands and feet with rope. His classmates stood twenty meters away from him.
Axel's dead eyes stared at each of their faces. For a long time, he had never received any help from anyone in this group. Some weak-willed people threw sympathetic glances at him, but they didn't do anything to assist him. They were too scared to go against the strong, afraid to take his place—even the class teachers.
A sharp whistle echoed at the entrance of the basketball fence. A man in his thirties entered, dressed in a red jumpsuit. He carried nothing except his watch. In these days, handheld phones no longer existed; they had been replaced by smartwatches with holographic screens that allowed users to do almost anything—browse the internet, access social media, create and upload files for work, watch movies, and listen to music.
The man who had just entered was their instructor. He stood in front of the class and greeted them good morning. The students greeted back, seemingly excited about the training.
The instructor didn't waste time. He quickly called the first person to demonstrate.
As Axel watched them proceed, he could only bitterly laugh. Initially, he had hoped this instructor would save him from this hell. But the man turned a blind eye, as if he were just a scarecrow wearing their school uniform.
The student who was called was a member of the boys' gang who had tied Axel up. His special ability involved controlling water. The boy had an upturned nose, ugly slanted eyes, and a big mouth. He sneered at Axel as he chanted a spell. Suddenly, a huge waterfall dropped like an ice-cold heavy bomb onto Axel, soaking his clothes.
The waterfall continued to pour icy, piercing cold water for ten minutes before it finally stopped.
The instructor glanced at the boy, barely giving the shivering Axel a glance.
"Is that it?"
"No, there's something else," the boy evilly grinned at Axel. "Something that I'm practicing and want to do right now."
The boy raised his hand again, and this time, a body of water soaked Axel completely, from his neck down to his legs. It was as if there was an invisible barrier controlling the water, encasing Axel completely.

At first, Axel was expressionless. His position, with his hands and feet tied, looked like a criminal about to be publicly executed. More like publicly humiliated. Axel’s indifferent eyes twitched. This water… something is wrong with it.“Hahahahahah, did you notice?” the boy asked with a smirk. He turned to the instructor.“I was able to learn a new method to control my ability. Earlier, that waterfall was at -2°C. I haven’t learned the technique to lower the water’s temperature, but I can control how hot the water can be. Currently, the water is at 40°C.”The boy proudly showed off the temperature reading on his holographic screen. Within a few seconds, it had reached 50°C. Then 60°C.As the temperature kept rising, Axel thrashed around. His throat was almost ripped as he screamed. The other students looked at him with uncomfortable gazes. The instructor patted the boy’s shoulder, “That’s enough, you will burn his skin.”The boy ignored the instructor’s words and stalled.“AAAAHHHH

Soon, other students from different classrooms had gathered around. The principal came to the field with other teachers.“Ah, he finally kicked the bucket.”“Isn’t he Nyx’s younger brother?”“Yes, but he didn’t awaken any special abilities, right?”“Wasn’t he the student who was used as a living target by the whole class not long ago?”“Ah, you mean during the shooting exercise? He had many of his bones broken because of that incident, right?”“How come there’s no healer who healed his injuries now? Most of his broken bones before weren’t fatal because there was a healer who took care of them.”“How did he die, anyway?”“One of his classmates boiled him to death.”The murmurs of the students were particularly distinct. Some conversations were drowned out by the ambulance that came to collect Axel’s dead body. The atmosphere was solemn, but no one felt sorry for Axel. Their expressions were sympathetic, but their thoughts did not have any space for Axel.‘Ha, so the weakling finally ki
Tower of Erase Last words
Axel hurriedly reached out and opened the book.“This kid… If you are reading this book, it means I am dead.”Axel stiffened as he read the first sentence.“I don’t want you to be involved. The life of a Challenger is extremely dangerous. I did my best to fight and clear as many dungeon floors as I could. The Tower of Erase hasn’t unleashed its terror on the human world yet, but once it does, 70% of the population will be ‘erased’.”Erased…?“I just want you to know this is not the life I wanted for you. I live every day imagining my baby brother graduating from college, living the life of an artist that you always wanted.”Axel’s finger subconsciously touched this sentence. A slight, gentle breeze blew on his face. With a snap, a heavy, overwhelming feeling possessed him. Axel looked up in surprise.Sitting a few steps away from him was his brother. His left leg was missing. Blood continued to flow from his side. His other hand was holding onto his stomach, where the unbelievable amo
Tower of Erase The One Who Wants it All
For some unknown reason, Axel could see Nyx’s thoughts. The reason for his brother’s alienation was that he didn’t want Axel to have anything to do with being a Challenger and the Tower of Erase. His goal all along was to conquer the Tower of Erase, erase it from the face of the Earth, so that normal human Axel could live a normal, happy life.Axel’s tears could not stop streaming down his face as he watched the images his brother imagined. They were filled with Axel: what he would look like when he graduated from college, when he landed a corporate job, how happy Axel would be when he introduced his girlfriend to Nyx, and what Axel would look like in a black suit as a groom when he decided to marry his girlfriend. Nyx would take care of his cute nieces and nephews.Axel finally understood that it wasn’t Nyx’s intention to isolate him. He just wanted to protect him from the bad and ugly things that make one unable to sleep for countless nights. Axel’s tears never stopped. He continued

Axel was clearly at a loss. He was already exhausted. He had experienced many strange things in one day. He had just died, then was brought back to life. Then he witnessed his brother left to die by his guildmates. Now, there were talking puppies with fox tails staring at him with ruthless red eyes. Axel could not take any more surprises and collapsed."…Crap, we scared the human.""…He’s not dead yet, right?""…With the skill finally finding its new owner, what about the demon of greed? Will it be reborn too?""…New demons using stronger skills with notorious previous owners cannot resist the temptation and become possessed. Both men use weapons against each other. The man who can control metals wields a large metal axe, which he swings horizontally and vertically. He has a huge mustache and strong, beefy arms full of tattoos. The other man is slender in comparison. What’s surprising is that the metal man can bend and change the shape of his weapon at will. At first, it was an axe. When he noticed this could injure his friend, he changed the shape into a long metal rod. His speed and strength are no joke. He fights on equal footing with his opponent, who can fly.The more Axel observed, the more he wanted to have that skill. Axel approached them and observed with the other patients.“You idiot! Come down here and fight me, Nelson!”“Tsk, tsk, tsk. So immature, Leroy. How are you going to kill monsters with wings if you dumbly ask them to come down?” Nelson used his sword and swung it three times; three wind blades immediately appeared to attack Leroy. But Leroy seemed unfazed. He deflected all three wind

How are you feeling?” the doctor asked while checking the monitor at Axel’s side.“I feel fine.”“Do you experience any pain in your head? Or any parts of your body? Do you remember anything that could have caused you to collapse?”“No. I was just walking around, then I suddenly felt dizzy. Axel spent all night practicing the three skills he had just stolen. The challenging part was finding a small knife. His reflexes were also top-notch. Grandpa Ken said that this student had a natural talent for sword fighting.Considering Grandpa Ken, it was rare for him to praise someone else for their skills. The first person he admitted was better than himself was Nyx.So if Axel was really as talented as Grandpa Ken said, then why didn't he fight back against those people? Gabriel didn't believe it was to enhance his ability. That would be too stupid and risky. Oh, it was the recording from earlier.Axel breathed a sigh of relief. At least she didn't see the actual event. It was a few more minutes before he spoke.“Axel, you’re good with sword fighting?”“Not as good as Luna,” Axel replied.Gabriel studied Axel closely, his dark eyes narrowing with suspicion.“If that’s the case, then you should be able to fight those boys and defend yourself. Why did you let them beat you?”Axel was stunned. After a moment, he erased the surprise from his face and looked at Gabriel seriously.Tsk, he had forgotten that people like this existed. They’re too perceptive for their own good. Axel decided to abandon his plan to use Gabriel for his own gain and just let him be. After all, he couldn’t take advantage of Luna's family.A

A week had passed since Axel was released from the hospital. During this week, he never missed a day visiting the Masuda Dojo and practicing swordsmanship with Luna. He also got to know her better. She didn’t like to talk, but she loved animals. When he mentioned the tuxedo cat he had saved in an alley, she showed interest for the first time. She said she wanted to visit the cat and even thanked him for saving it. Axel immediately took this chance to invite her to his house, but she refused.“Why?” he blurted out before he could stop himself.“Just so,” she replied with an expressionless face, turning her back on him. Axel was left scratching his head. Sometimes he couldn’t tell what she was thinking. She wasn’t the talkative type, and her actions were hard to decipher. But he knew she was kind. She was kind enough to give him towels and a bottle of water during break time and kind enough to prepare his dojo uniform before training. Although he soon found out she did these things for e

Axel waited for the others to leave before he got up and left. But right when he turned to the next alley, he slipped and tumbled.A slightly big lump was lying in the street. His legs were still unstable, and he could not avoid it in time. Luckily, his butt only hit the ground beside the lump, he did not hit it directly.Axel curiously looked at the lump.It was a cat.A big tuxedo cat with a fluffy belly.Axel is not fond of animals… but his brother is. He remembered that his brother would adopt cats, feed them, and if they didn’t stay inside the house, he just let them go. But Nyx will always leave cat food in the backyard, just in case it comes again. As Axel took a closer look, this fluffy tuxedo cat is injured. It’s belly has an ugly wound and blood pooled around it. Axel stretched his hand to heal the little thing but he can’t muster any healing aura on his hand.He was able to regain his physical strength but not his abilities.Axel gritted his teeth. This won’t do.
