Chapter 8: Reward? Money?

" Then...you must be stuck inside no? ", Alex just casually asked, everyone might be scared and restless for many months and days, knowing they can't get out of this place.

Mike was stunned to hear that question.

" Why do you think I am stuck here? ", Asked Mike curiously as he could see something on his face.

He could see Guilt written all over Alex's face for some reason as if his disappearance had something to do with Alex. No, it can't be right. The person who himself was stuck here, how can he have something to do with this matter? Maybe it was just an illusion. That's what Mike thought.

Alex was speechless, most importantly...he had no answer to give Mike, and the truth can't be told under any circumstances. Yeah, he was guilty in some aspect but he never expected his virtual game to turn out like this.

" I don't know...I just thought ", Alex twisted the whole question to his liking again.

" Hmm! let's see what we got here from these people ", Said Mike as he looked at the stuff he just took out from those people's bodies.

Alex nodded but was uncertain as to why this guy was not scary at all as he was a while ago, he was too ruthless a while ago while dealing with those guys. But now...he was on a whole different level. Like, the one from before and the one now were two different people.

" By the way, do you have perhaps...have two personalities? ", Asked Alex curiously.

This question was a little odd for him to also ask Mike, but he couldn't stop himself but ask after witnessing the split personality change in him.

Mike turned his head towards him again after hearing that question, his eyebrows were knitted together as if he wanted to ask just what was wrong with him.

" Do you ask those random and odd questions to whoever you meet for the first time? ", Mike asked in a cold tone.

Alec felt his bones chilling again as he cast that cold glance on him.

Alec was now even more terrified because there was no guarantee he would be safe if he was to stay with him any longer. He was sometimes making Alex feel safe, while dangerous most of the time.

" I...Umm...I was...I was just joking around, You don't need to mind. But...but I do apologize for my rude behavior ", Alex gulped down his saliva as it was unbearable to meet his cold gaze.

" Hmm! since it's your first time ".

On the other hand, Mike did not seem to be an ordinary person as he refused to reveal anything about himself to him.

A person as well who doesn't like anyone asking him those odd questions or interfering in his life and invading his private life, Alex quieted down. Zipping his mouth, Alex came to Mike and started searching through the stuff he just took out from those dead people.

Alex touched the can of the store peaches.

" Wow! a food source. Looks like we are safe for today ", Alex was brightened in happiness because even a can of food was very important in a place where only war was happening and people were getting killed.

Mike scorned and sigh...

It was the first time he was seeing something getting this happy only because he found a can of food.

" Are you that happy to see that single can of food? ", Mike asked as he smirked.

" Maybe for you not. But for me? yes...it's a treasure. Cause I don't want to get killed while raiding another person when I just fall in this world from the sky ", Said Alec.

As a developer and the one who's going to correct the errors, he couldn't die so meaninglessly...

Mike was speechless and didn't know what to do with this person...

He just met Alec, but this person was already too strange to him.

Mike himself didn't know what he was doing in the virtual reality. He remembered that he was driving on the road but then his car crashed against a truck and when he opened his eyes, he was in this world.

At first, when he fell into this world, he had no idea what type of place it was. But soon...when he saw how mercilessly people were getting killed and one person was killing a weakling...

He couldn't help but feel sick in the stomach.

That was the time he realized how different and cruel this world was. But then he soon realized that he was in some virtual game...And the game was called " Virtual Survival Instinct ".

" Are you here for money as well? ", Mike asked.

Till now, all the people he met, were following the rules created by the system and were doing every possible task to survive in this world.

Even killing each other for a reason like " I want the prize money and I must kill others and survive to get damn money " was the mentality of all people in this world.

Alexander was baffled once he heard that strange question.

" Money? what money? ", Alex tried to understand what Mike was saying. But no matter how hard he tried to think...there was no recollection of money in this game.

" What are you talking about? What money? ", Alex asked the question as it was hard for him to understand Mike at the moment.

Mike's eyebrows knitted again, he was dumbfounded to know that this person here had no clue about the prize money that the last survivor will get once he completes all the tasks, and only he would alone stand in this world.

" Don't tell me that you know nothing about this world and that you are not here because the company will pay a big amount to the last survivor ", Mike asked for the last time since he couldn't believe that this person just blindly got inside.

Alex was even more confused after knowing what he was saying but he couldn't seem to understand a single thing...

And then suddenly...he burst out in a forceful laugh...

" Hahaha! so you are telling me that people are killing each other not because they find it interesting but because they are trying to survive in this world and want to be the last to stand in this land... and that's only because they want to earn the money ",

Alec would like to punch whoever did this. A big amount of money would be paid to the winner. that was a big scam.

Because nothing like that was ever mentioned before nor a feature like that was added into the game, everything was just a buff.

Mike blinked several times..." Has this guy finally gone crazy? he seems like ", He thought since Alex was behaving this brazenly.

He laughed for a while like he had gone crazy already. But then stop and come to reality after a while...

"Things are more complicated than I thought, I can't let this glitch live any longer, I must find it ", He mumbled.

He believed that all this was a glitch because no notice, warning, or competition was launched since today was only the third day after the successful launch of the game.

" But how am I able to find when the problem lies when I am stuck in this world? ", He was mumbling to himself and Mike seemed to hear a word or two from him.

Alex started looking for the important stuff again as he wanted to find the glitch.

Mike found him weird. For him, Alex was different and kind of crazy in his view.

When finding suitable stuff for himself from the stuff they got from those...

The system sent many notifications informing the host about what this or that. But in that pile of garbage. They only found untouched water bottles, packed food cans with many varieties, knives in different shapes and styles, and some guns.

Some tickets and most importantly...

Alex was not disappointed since he found many important things.

It's just some hours since he got into this world, but he already was finding this place unfamiliar yet familiar at that point.

" Umm! you said money...so are you here for money as well? and why didn't you exit from the game? ", Alex asked as the rate of trapping in this game was too less.

But the formula of who would stay trapped here was still unknown to him.

" I don't lack money but I have no idea as to why I am here...", Mike answered with simplicity as if what he said was true.

He had no idea how he would fall into this world.

" All the people in this world are only thinking of completing the mission and staying alive, they care only about the money but I am more worried about my own life. I can't die and I don't know if I will return to my world ", Mike wanted to return to the real world.

But he once saw something scary in front of him.

He had a special ability and had gained many different skills and abilities from the time he came into this world. But one thing was still very scary to him.

" Grumble.....Grrrrrr!...".

The cave started to shake suddenly, making both Mike and Alex startle...

what was that? what were they going to encounter next?
