Chapter 7 - Securing the contract

The more Noah feigned surprise at Jeremy's accusations, the angrier Jeremy became. It was clear to him that Noah was lying just to get Avery's attention and the thought was infuriating.

"I can't believe you would stoop so low as to act this way out of jealousy," Avery said, facing Jeremy. "If Noah shows his call history and it proves that he did pay the doctor, what then?"

"I'll admit that I was wrong," Jeremy said grudgingly. "Until he provides proof that he's telling the truth, I'm going to assume that he's lying," Jeremy said, his voice firm. "I'm not going to let him take credit for something he didn't do, just because he's jealous of me."

Avery sighed, running a hand through her hair. "I understand your frustration," she said, "but I think you're jumping to conclusions. I think you should give Noah the benefit of the doubt until he's had a chance to prove himself."

"If he can provide proof that he's telling the truth, I'll happily eat my words," Jeremy said, and Avery could tell he was serious. She knew how proud Jeremy was, and the fact that he was willing to swallow his pride and apologize to Noah if proven wrong made her have her suspicions about Noah.

"Fine," Avery said, addressing both men. "Let's settle this right now. Noah, please show Jeremy your call history to prove that you did call the doctor. And if Jeremy is wrong, he will apologize for causing a scene."

"Is there a need for such?" Noah stuttered. His mind raced as he tried to think of a way out of the situation... "Do I need to prove my generosity?"

"Just show us your call history, Noah," Jeremy demanded, his patience wearing thin. "It's the only way to settle this once and for all."

Noah's face was pale, and his hands were shaking.

"I didn't make the call," Noah finally managed to say, his voice shaking. "My father did. I told him about Mia's situation, and he used his influence to get the bills paid."

There was a moment of silence as everyone processed what he had said. Jeremy felt a surge of anger rise within him.

"You're not telling the truth, Noah," Jeremy accused, his voice loud and insistent. "We both know that you're not being honest with us."

"Do you want me to show you my call log, so you can see for yourself the time I called my father?" Noah retorted, his voice tinged with anger. "Why would I lie to you, a man of such insignificance who's only been lucky enough to marry Avery?" He had made a call to his father on his way to the hospital. It had been for a different reason, but he was ready to use that call as evidence that he was the one who had paid Mia's hospital bills.

"You're a liar!" Jeremy shouted, his fist raised and ready to strike. But before he could land the blow, Avery rushed to his side and grabbed his arm, her eyes wide with fear and anger.

"Jeremy, stop!" she yelled. "You're being unreasonable. Noah has already proven that he was the one who paid the bills. What more do you want from him?"

Jeremy glared at her, his jaw clenched tight. He wanted to lash out, to tell her that he knew Noah was lying, but he couldn't since that would mean exposing himself too.

"When the time is right, I'll make you tell the truth," Jeremy said, his words dripping with malice. But before he could continue, Avery's phone began to ring, its jaunty tone cutting through the tense atmosphere.

Avery reached into her purse and pulled out her phone, her brow furrowed as she looked at the screen. "It's my grandfather," she said, an edge of worry in her voice. "I have to take this."

Avery picked up the phone and spoke for a few minutes before hanging up, her expression unreadable. When she turned to Noah, her voice was calm but firm.

"My grandfather wants to see you," she said. "He said you should come to his house with me." Turning to Jeremy, she said, "I'm disappointed in you. We'll talk about this later, but right now, I need to go to my grandparent's house. And if you're still not convinced that Noah paid the bills, you can come with me."

The moment they arrived at the family mansion, Lord Williams and his wife greeted Noah warmly, as they always did. But when they saw Jeremy, their expressions changed, and they both looked displeased.

"What's he doing here?" Mrs. Williams asked, her voice full of irritation. "I thought this was supposed to be a family matter."

"He's my husband, and that makes him family," Avery said, her voice firm.

But Mrs. Williams wasn't having it. "He wasn't your husband when the bills needed to be paid," she snapped. "I don't see why he has any right to be here, now that everything's been taken care of."

"Grandma, please," Avery pleaded, trying to steer the conversation in a different direction. "I know you're upset, but that's not why Grandpa called us here." She didn't want her grandparents to know about the argument between Noah and Jeremy at the restaurant. She knew they would only berate Jeremy and make the situation worse.

"Fine," she said. "But this isn't over. I still have a lot to say about all of this."

"My dear son, Noah," Mr. Williams said. His words dripping with pride, but it was clear to everyone in the room that he was trying to put Jeremy down. He wanted to make it clear that Noah was the favored one and that Jeremy was nothing more than a disappointment.

"We need your help. I received a call this afternoon from one of my company's executives, and he informed me that we're facing a potential bankruptcy if the economy continues on its current trajectory."

"What can I do to help?" Noah asked, a hint of pride in his voice.

"We've been trying to secure a contract with Blue Silver Entertainment, but we've been turned down several times," Mr. Williams explained. "But I was told that you have the connections we need to get in touch with the owner of the company."

One of the Williams' major businesses was selling makeup and making up celebrities, and they also produced skin care products. They had a reputation for being one of the best in the business, and they were well-known for their high-quality products. But they were struggling to break into the mainstream market, and that's where Blue Silver Entertainment came in.

Blue Silver Entertainment was one of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, and they had their fingers in everything from movies to music. If the Williams could get a contract with them, it would be a huge coup.

"That's not a problem for me, even if it's a challenge for you," Noah boasted. "But I won't do it for free." He leaned back in his seat, a smug smile on his face.

Jeremy couldn't help but smirk as he waited for Noah to state his terms. He had a feeling that Noah was about to ask for something outrageous, and he couldn't wait to see what it was.

Noah cleared his throat, his confidence wavering ever so slightly. "If I help you secure a contract with Blue Silver Entertainment, in return I will have Avery as my wife,"

The room went silent as everyone took in what he had just said.

It was Avery who spoke first, her voice shaking with anger. "You're out of your mind if you think I'm going to marry you!" she said, her eyes blazing.

"I don't see why that's such a big deal," Mrs. Williams said, a mocking smile on her face as she turned to Jeremy. "It's a perfectly reasonable request, isn't it?"

"It's a good deal, if you ask me," Mr.William said, his eyes flashing with amusement. "He would be a capable son-in-law, after all. "
