Chapter 6

“What happened?” Nathan asked the driver. He felt something was out of line.

The driver, who screamed out of his lungs a few seconds ago, went silent. He looked at Gwen Smith, who was smiling a while ago and was looking at him. Gwen was also able to feel something was amiss with the driver. The driver’s Adam apple was moving up and down, indicating that he was tense about something; sweat beads were formed on his forehead even after the car’s AC was at full speed.

“Are you planning to sit with your mouth shut all the time or are you going to say something?” Gwen roared. She doesn’t want someone to stay silent and waste time.

“Hmm, ma’am, I am sorry,” the driver apologized in the first place. Gwen didn't understand what he was saying and Nathan was saying everything silently.

“For-” The driver interrupted Gwen.

"Someone kidnapped my wife and daughter and kept them captive. I was forced to accept their terms and conditions in order to save them, which were to bring Miss Smith to her desired place without her bodyguards. Right now we are at the halfway point,” the driver revealed the reason.

“Then what made you open your mouth now?” Nathan and Gwen inquired at the same time.

“I have heard the Smith family’s bodyguards talking about Nathan’s magic. After listening to their words, I am very sure that if I take Mr. Nathan there, he will definitely kill the people who were threatening me and in that process, he will kill me for sure. I don’t want to die and that's the reason I thought to inform you both in advance,” the driver revealed the whole scenario.

After listening to this, they both stayed calm and neutral. As they emerge from prominent families, they are both more accustomed to having backstabbers in their lives. Nathan didn’t respond or take any steps. He let Gwen take the action and wanted to see what she would do.

Gwen fetched her mobile out and pressed a series of numbers on her phone.

I am curious as to what you are doing. In order to disseminate the information, the Smith family did not hire you. With one more word from your mouth about Mr. Nathan and his magic, I would like to take you all on a trip that is nothing short of a nightmare. Come to X place right away; rush,” Gwen warned and at the same time, she ordered them to reach them immediately. She hung up on them and then turned to look at the driver.

Gwen issued an edict that rendered you permanently unemployed as a driver, but assured that your family would be spared.

Because of the paramount importance of family trust in a profession like private driving, loyalty serves as the sole evaluation metric. Punishment in prominent families like theirs is notoriously difficult to foresee after trust and loyalty have been shattered. They claim that Gwen's action of simply removing him from his job was incredibly kind.

Nathan was actually dissatisfied with the turn of events because he didn’t want his work to be spread among everyone so easily. Once it was revealed to everyone, it might hinder his secret and reveal his true identity, which he really doesn’t want to happen now. The bodyguards of the smith’s family don't need to worry about it now, as Gwen has already handled it. According to the doctors at Belloberhg Central Hospital, they were cleared a long time ago. The only threat he poses right now is the driver.

Unleashed into the shadows of obscurity, the ousted driver, nursing a toxic brew of resentment and revenge, emerged as the clandestine fulcrum, threatening to tip the delicate balance that Nathan had so intricately woven into a tapestry of secrecy and stability.

Even though he wanted to express his dissatisfaction and displeasure there, he decided to stay silent as it would reveal his identity. His face remained expressionless and if anyone looks at him, they won’t ever understand that his heart was filled with displeasure. He decided to let his men kill the driver later. Nathan waited patiently along with Gwen there and not long after, Smith’s family bodyguards arrived at the juncture.

“Now, you just walk into the alley and wait for my instructions,” Gwen ordered the driver. He didn’t dare look at her or reject her. He knows if his family has to be saved, then the only option left with him was to obey her orders. He just nodded his head without looking straight at her or getting out of the car. Gwen and Nathan also got out of the car and stood there. The driver walked into the alley and stood there, waiting for her further orders.

Gwen, who was standing there silently, ordered the driver to call the attackers and inform them about their arrival at the spot.

"Ok, ma’am,” the driver bowed and made a call.

“As you said, I brought Miss Smith here,” he said, sharing the location details with them. Meanwhile, Gwen fetched her gun out of her car. Her cheerful face turned into cold and there was a murderous aura around her. Once the driver was done with the call, she fired a bullet towards him and shot him to death. The driver collapsed on the ground immediately. Bodyguards ran to the driver and confirmed that the driver was dead.

Gwen asked Nathan: Do you think I'm callous?

Nathan: That's what you have to do when you're the leader of a gang like the Smiths.

After Gwen listened, she felt that the other party could understand her, and her favorability towards Nathan also improved a lot.

But she deliberately used words to satirize Nathan: "You should say this to the driver I just killed and see what he said."

Nathan recalls his past life with the Amber family. In order to inherit his parents' power, he had to do a lot of dirty things.

But Nathan knew his relationship with Gwen was still not close. Without saying it out loud, he just told Gwen, "Trust me, we're the same kind of people."

Before Gwen noticed, Nathan had changed into driver's clothes.

“Don’t worry about what the dead think of us, but don’t forget why we have to do what we do.”

Nathan stood alone in front, the engines of the Raider convoy roared, but Nathan's figure was like an unshakable mountain.

"So, why are you doing these things?" Gwen stood next to Nathan and asked him softly.

"If you want to hear the truth, it's revenge." The Raiders' headlights illuminated Nathan's eyes.

"But if you want to hear some high-sounding reason, it's that I hope no one in this world does those dirty things."

Gwen was still in a daze, and finally, she just said one word: childish.

...

The atmosphere clenched with anticipation as the obsidian vehicles glided into the dimly lit alley, their presence hinting at a looming confrontation. Amidst the silent tension, Nathan's keen eyes discerned the approaching fleet of black cars, but instead of trepidation, a spark of intrigue ignited within him. The visage that had remained calm and stoic suddenly underwent a metamorphosis; his expression shifted from the tranquil serenity of a placid lake to the dynamic contours of a storm brewing on the horizon. A familiar magic aura danced in the air, and with it, the alchemy of intrigue and peril transformed his countenance into a tableau of profound interest. In the shadowy realm of the arcane, Nathan's curiosity, like an awakened force, mingled seamlessly with the impending danger, creating an intricate dance of emotions that painted the alley with an aura of enigmatic allure.

The cars came to a halt in front of them and the door was opened. The car doors were opened and the attackers came out of the car. After noticing that Gwen was all alone by herself along with Nathan, they felt super excited, thinking that their work would be very easy.
