The guard kept coming closer and closer. I slowly closed my eyes, and she ordered them to stop.

“Taylor, do you have anything to say to me just yet?”

I raised my gaze to her and smiled. “Well, Mom, I have nothing to say to you, but you need to know that tormenting me this way, you're only burning bridges!”

She burst out laughing. “Burning bridges? Burning bridges by dealing with you? You keep elevating yourself, and it baffles me sometimes!”

I looked at her face; she was slightly confused and shocked at the same time. I knew instantly that this was the time—she either gets into my head, or I get into hers!

I smiled sweetly, my eyes locked on hers. “Oh, Mother, you're so predictable. You think you're the only one who can play games? I've been playing this game since I was a child, and I've gotten quite good at it. If you make me feel pain, you have burned down a bridge that has been shielding you for two decades now.”

I leaned forward, my voice taking on a conspiratorial tone.
