The Black Card Palava

One of the salesgirls could predict where this whole thing would end up, so she quickly moved forward and smiled, concealing her disdainful look.

As the salesgirl approached them, while at the same time, trying to conceal her smugness as she asked, "Can I help you with something, sir?" She acted as though she wasn't aware of what had happened earlier.

Darren could notice the salesgirl's pretense but he chose to act oblivious since the salesgirl wasn't showing it.

So he also replied politely, "Yes, I'm looking for some new clothes, something stylish but not too flashy."

She gave him a condescending smile, "Of course, sir. Let me show you our latest collection."

As she brought out a few clothing items, she couldn't resist making a snide remark about his appearance, "You know, these clothes are quite expensive. They might not be within your budget." She stylishly remained with him, making sure her words weren't as disdainful as the salesgirl who had almost flared up.

Darren felt a pang of embarrassment at the polite and indirect insult. He would have replied to her but since she was still acting all polite, he couldn't do anything other than stay composed. He knew he didn't look the part of a rich man at the moment, but that doesn't mean they would look down on him to this extent.

He picked up a few pieces, pretending to examine them closely, and replied, "Money isn't an issue. I'll take these."

The salesboy and salesgirl exchanged another glance, clearly amused by Darren's audacity. They thought it would be entertaining to watch him fail at the checkout counter. They had all directly and indirectly insulted him so they were expecting him to at least have some notion of shame and leave quickly, but from the look of things, it was obvious Darren wasn't prepared to leave.

Since he was prepared to get himself embarrassed and shamed today, then they would leave him to it, when it was time to pay, that would be the time of their victory, as they knew he wouldn't be able to afford one of those dresses he had picked.

They all returned to their duties and the customers all dispersed to go select their desired clothes.

Just when Darren was almost done selecting, he saw someone push him hard, which almost made him lose his composure and fall.

After regaining his balance back, he frowned and turned to the person who dared to do such to him.

When he turned to the person, he saw a tall slender female. Judging from her figure, it was obvious she couldn't have pushed him unintentionally. It was definitely on purpose.

"Miss, why did you push me?" He tried to keep a calm composure as he asked.

The lady gazed at him before sneering. "Yes, I pushed you, because I hate when poor people like you are in the same breath as me." She didn't try to sugarcoat her displeasure, instead, she spilled it out so blatantly.

Darren was so frustrated and wanted to shout the question about why they all kept calling him poor, but then he realized his cloth was indeed a waiter's cloth.

Everyone who had once returned to their work immediately raised their true heads at the harsh words from the lady.

Seeing that the insult was being thrown at Darren, their puzzle look immediately changed into a laughing face. They wondered if Darren has such bad luck that's making everyone feel utterly disgusted about him.

When the lady saw Darren wasn't replying, she felt even more disgusted and angry. "Hey peasant, why are you still standing in a trance? Don't you know what you are supposed to do?" She asked, with a furious and disdainful expression.

Darren gave her a bewildered look. "What am I supposed to do?" He had just been insulted by her and without even shouting at her for it, she was asking him to do something. What a joke!

The lady rolled her eyes. "You better apologize to me now." When she said that word, everyone laughed even more as they waited for Darren to apologize as asked.

Darren almost laughed. "Excuse me, miss, but on what basis should I apologize?"

Before she could answer, he continued. "Is it based on me breathing in the same space as you? How great of you." Sarcastic remarks could be seen in that word.

Despite knowing what Darren was saying, she remains unfazed by his words, he must apologize and that's it. "Yes, you need to apologize for such a person like you breathing next to me." She shamelessly uttered.

" Then, I suggest you shouldn't be on this earth because as long as you're on it, you'll meet many others like me who would have to breathe." He didn't bother waiting, instead, he turned to one of the salesboys. "I'm done."

"Very well, sir," the salesboy said, trying to hide a smirk, "Follow me to the counter, and we'll process your purchase."

The lady who was left standing felt utterly and greatly insulted, she has never felt humiliated In her life and the word part of it was that the humiliation was from a worthless trash heap. With anger in her, she left the cloth shop. Although some of the salesgirls wanted to cajole her they couldn't as she had long left before they could get to her.

At the counter, Darren placed the clothes he had chosen. The salesgirl rang up the total, and her smirk grew wider as she announced the exorbitant amounts.

$40,000!!

40,000 dollars was no small amount so their smiles grew larger as they heard the price of all the clothes he picked.

They all folded their hands waiting for Darren to make a complete fool of himself. Today was surely going to be a laughing day for almost all of them.

With both the customers and workers watching, Darren remained composed.

He calmly pulled out the credit card his dad gave to him and handed it to her. "Will this be acceptable?"

They all got shocked to see a black card in his hand. It was only a handful of people that had it and all of them were big shots so where did this man get the card from?

The sales girl's eyes widened, but she attempted to maintain her composure. She felt the card might end up being empty so why do they need to bother fretting out now?

She calmly collected the card from Darren and swiped the card and processed the payment, hoping against hope that it would be declined. With everyone anticipating the card to show red, Darren remained composed and collected.

Seconds came on going and then suddenly the color had been shown. Everyone immediately looked at it, and to their greatest surprise, it showed green.

Decline!

So they had been worried for nothing. Everyone slowly turned to Darren with a look that showed he had wasted their tune for nothing. For a moment, they had almost felt Darren wealthy, but now their doubt has been cleared.

Meanwhile, Darren on the other hand, was also surprised and confused. As Dad had said, he had stocked the money in the card so what was happening? Why did it decline?

The salesgirl who had almost flared up at Darren earlier quickly took her opportunity and spoke. "Where were all the mouths now? You were blatantly saying that money wasn't an issue so where are all claims now?" She sneered as she asked.

Every single person watching also felt the salesgirl was right with her word. It made them so angry that they had wasted their time for no reason.

With anger in them, they started shouting at the dazed Darren. Despite watching them shouting at him, Darren was in no mood to retaliate, instead he just stood still in a trance.

Just when, one of the salesboys was about to hit the trance Darren, a loud voice resounded throughout the whole shop. Hearing the voice, Darren also snapped out of his thoughts to look at the person. It was Easton and he could see that he had an angry expression on his face.

"What's happening here?"

Everyone quivers in silence at the stern look on the man's face. None of them dared to say a word as their breath immediately seized from the piercing look from the person.

"Young Master, I'm sorry for not coming on time." The person bowed his head slightly.

Young master

Was a movie going on? Who's he referring to as a young master? They couldn't help but wonder as they saw the man facing the direction of Darren.

Darren slightly moved his lip. "Easton, it's okay, I…" he was interrupted before he could continue his words.

"Just shut up! Who do you guys think you're trying to fool? Firstly, you created chaos here and wasted everyone's time by claiming you can afford an outfit here and now, you have sent another man to act and call you a young master!" The same salesgirl, who threw a disdainful look at him upon his arrival, was the same person who was shouting now.

Darren: ??

Darren was apparently tongue-tied, not because he accepted her allegation but he was dumbfounded because the salesgirl accused him of sending Easton to act. Was this a joke?

After a while, he wanted to speak, but before he could say a word, a customer beat him to it.

"What else does your worthless self have to say? You are really shameless for trying to still defend yourself despite being wrong."

" Poverty-stricken person like himself won't know what shamelessness is, because they are used to it." Another customer replied as she gave a mockery laughter.

Darren, who was quietly listening to their ridiculed words, just couldn't take it anymore. Without thinking twice he spoke. "Since you're calling me a poverty-stricken person, why don't you let this poverty-stricken person try once more. If it doesn't work, then I would accept the allegation and also kneel for you all." He said those words, loudly.

Kneel? Everyone's ears immediately raised, when they heard Darren's. They completely ignored when he said he would accept the allegation, instead their enthusiasm was at Darren kneeling to them.

A bright smile immediately appeared on everyone's faces. It sure would be interesting for them to see him make a mockery of himself.

Easton, who was standing was also shocked, he wanted to object but Darren stopped him with a smile.

"Alright, let's give him a chance."

The salegirl took the black card from Darren and inserted it into the machine as she felt it would be empty as before. However, to her surprise, the transaction went through successfully this time around.

The salesboy's and salesgirl's expressions quickly shifted from arrogance to surprise and annoyance. They had underestimated Darren, and it was evident he had the means to afford the high-priced items. They reluctantly packaged his purchases, their disdain replaced by begrudging respect.

Darren sneered at their astonished expression, without wanting to say for another minute, he walked out of the cloth shop.

As Darren and Easton left the store with his shopping bags, he couldn't help but notice their astonished gazes following him. He had shown them that appearances could be deceiving and that he was not to be underestimated.

Walking away from the shop with his head held high, Darren knew he had reclaimed not only his style but also a sense of self-assurance. He had faced their insults and disdain, and through it all, he had refused to be defeated.
