Sage stared at Kaiden Blackwood in disbelief. His head spun. His pride was in pieces. He had never been humiliated like this in his entire life.

Vivian's voice cracked in anger and agony as she saw her precious son on the floor.

“You bastard! A filthy mutt with no father! We fed you, clothed you, and this is how you repay us?”

Kai never hit women. Never. But today?

Today, she had gone too far.

Her words weren’t just insults. They were knives piercing him. And she had also driven them straight into his mother’s grave, she's free to cuss him but she should never use her bad mouth on his late mother.

Kai’s face darkened with fury as he fixed his gaze on Vivian. With a single sweep of his hand, she crashed to the floor.

She screamed, scrambling to crawl away, too terrified to meet Kai’s eyes. This was not the useless Kai she once knew—this was a monster!

“You... You monster!” she gasped.

Kai stepped forward, intent on ripping the necklace off her neck. But soon heard a rustling sound coming from behind. He spun around abruptly.

Sage had grabbed something from the doorway. A vase. A lamp. He didn’t care what. The coward was about to throw it.

Kai smirked. "Like mother, like son, like daughter," his voice dripping with mockery. "Attacking from behind, typical in your family huh?"

Sage lunged, but Kai moved faster. A sharp backhand knocked the object from Sage’s grasp. It hit the floor, shattering into useless pieces.

Then, without warning...

BAM!

Kai’s fist slammed into Sage’s gut.

Sage crashed into the wall like a broken puppet in an instant. He coughed violently, his face contorted with pain, and a vivid streak of blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. He looked up at Kai, who was slowly advancing towards him. Kai was like a wild beast out of control. God knew if he would tear himself apart for that damned necklace!

"Mom!" he wheezed. "Give it to him! Just...just give it to him! Give him whatever he wants!!"

Vivian didn't dare to even breathe, and with trembling hands, she took off the necklace and handed it to Kai.

“I'm sorry, I was wrong! I shouldn’t have taken it! It belongs to your mother!”

Kai didn’t hesitate, he grabbed the necklace from her.

"Bastard." Sage cussed.

Kai paused for a split second. Then, without turning to look at the bloodied man on the floor, he kicked Sage aside like a piece of trash blocking his path. Sage crashed against the gate, his curses turning into strangled gasps of pain.

"Get lost with that lousy necklace, you bastard! Next time we meet, I’ll cripple you!"

Kai stepped outside, the cold air greeting him. The sleek Rolls-Royce awaited, its polished exterior gleaming under the light. A burly man stood beside the open door, his sharp gaze flicking toward Sage.

Sage, groaning on the floor, looked outside the gate in disbelief. A Rolls-Royce? For Kai?

---

At the Sky Ballroom, Astrid stood at the entrance, forcing a smile as she greeted guests.

Reginald had promised that tonight, the biggest names in the city would be here—especially Elara, the city’s wealthiest, a person she couldn’t afford to disappoint. She had waited almost an hour, her smile beginning to crack. Just when her patience was about to snap, she saw them—her mother and brother, storming toward her, furious and limping.

"Astrid, my baby! You have no idea what we’ve been through!" Her voice trembled with just the right amount of misery. "That monster nearly killed Sage! He’s out of control!"

Astrid’s gaze flickered to her brother. Sage looked pathetic, bandaged up, his lip swollen, one arm wrapped tightly.

Guests cast curious glances in their direction. Astrid, unwilling to let anyone see the stain of her disgraceful ex, swiftly ushered them into a small lounge, her smile strained, a mask of forced politeness.

"He barged into our home like a madman," she wailed. "He snatched my necklace! The one you gave me as a gift! And then..." She craned her neck, pointing at the faint red marks. "Look! He attacked me! If Sage hadn’t stepped in, I might not even be alive right now, you'll have become motherless!"

Astrid’s nails dug into her palms. Kai did this? Didn't Kai die? Even if he didn't, with so many bodyguards ganging up on him, there's absolutely no way he could have left unharmed!

"Where is he now?" she asked, her voice cold.

Vivian sniffled. "I don’t know! He just—just left in some fancy car like he’s suddenly important!"

Astrid froze. "A car?"

Vivian nodded frantically. "A Rolls-Royce!"

Astrid’s stomach twisted. No. That didn’t make sense.

Kai was nothing. He should be rotting in some filthy apartment, licking his wounds. How the hell was he leaving in a luxury car?

Her fingers curled around her phone. She dialed his number. It rang. Then, click. He hung up! Astrid’s blood boiled.

"That bastard!" she seethed. "I swear, he’ll regret ever crossing me!"

"Let him rot!" Vivian lowered her voice, leaning in close to Astrid.

“Babe, did you see those big shots?”

“What's for the gift from Elara? Wasn’t it worth a fortune?” Her eyes glinted with impatience and greed.

Before Astrid could respond, the door swung open and Reginald stepped in.

"Darling, come out and see the gift Elara sent us"

Abigail's eyes lingered on Kai, scanning him with quiet suspicion. He didn’t look powerful. He didn’t dress like a man the city feared. He didn’t carry himself like someone who just brought the most powerful wedding in Dominus City to its knees. But Elara had bowed to him. And no one...not even Reginald's so-called elite friends...dared question it. She tilted her head slightly. "Who are you, really?" Kai chuckled lightly. Not mockingly. . .just tired amusement. Kai's eyes flashed open. A harsh, sterile light seared his vision, and a jolt of pain arched through his body. His muscles screamed with fatigue, each breath a reminder of what he’d unleashed back at the club. His bones felt too heavy, his skin too tight. He wasn’t just tired, he was drained. Everything ached. Especially his head… and more strangely, his right eye. It throbbed deep in its socket, pulsing like it had a life of its own. He winced and groaned softly trying to figure out just what was wrong with him. “Kaiden?” Abigail’s voice called beside him, sharp with worry. She had been sitting by his bedside the entire time and instantly leaned closer. “You’re awake! Are you okay? Should I call the doctor?” He shook his head weakly, his voice low and cracked. “No… I’m fine.” That was a lie. He felt like death warmed over and all he wanted to do was lose consciousness again so all the pain would go away. But seeing the concern on her face, he didn’t have the heart to add

Abigail was trembling, panic bursting in her chest as she stared at the chaos. She couldn’t stop crying, couldn’t stop screaming his name. “Kai...please! Please stop! You’ll kill them!” But he wasn’t listening. He couldn’t. Kai stood in front of the crumpled bodies of Conrad and Reginald, his fists soaked in blood, his chest rising and falling like a caged beast. His entire body radiated heat...violent, unstable heat. His veins glowed faintly under his skin, and the air around him was vibrating. She could see it. Feel it. The burn in her palm still stung. He was gone. Whatever part of him was still human… was buried under the madness. Kai could hear her...her sobs, her pleas but it was distant, like echoes inside a dark tunnel. The bloodlust, the pain, the humiliation they had caused... it surged through him, adding fuel to a fire that refused to burn out. Conrad whimpered, barely conscious, his hand dragging feebly on the floor. Reginald was slumped against the wall, nose br

Her eyes fluttered open weakly and locked on him. “Kai…” That broken whisper was all it took. Something inside him snapped. The glass chandelier above trembled violently, cracking at the edges. Conrad turned around, stunned. “What the f—” He never finished. Kai’s figure vanished in a blur of motion. (THIS IS AN EXPLICIT SCENE, PLEASE MOVE TO THE NEXT CHAPTER IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE IT, THANKS.) The room reeked of alcohol and sin. Abigail's head throbbed. Her limbs were heavy, her vision blurred. Something was wrong. Her throat was dry like sandpaper, and the heat crawling under her skin wasn’t natural. She struggled to sit up, but her body refused to obey. Across the room, laughter. Conrad Lin. He wasn’t drunk. He wasn’t high. He was waiting. Her family had collapsed one by one, slumped over the table or against plush leather couches, unconscious from the drug-laced wine he had poured with fake smiles and false sincerity. Abigail had taken only a few sips, but it was enough to dull her defenses. Now she was cornered. Conrad stood in front of her, tie loose, breath heavy. The grin on his face wasn’t amused anymore. It was hungry. "Tch," he clicked his tongue, looking over the passed-out bodies. "Useless lot. Wasn't after them anyway." He turned to Abigail. She tried to cra

After stepping out of the Luricor building, Kaiden Blackwood glanced sideways at Abigail Alfred. She looked more relaxed now, her cheeks flushed with victory. For the first time all day, she smiled without tension and he was glad he was able to help her. “I owe you a meal,” Kai said, hands tucked into his pockets, his voice low, "A congratulatory meal." Abigail smiled and opened her mouth to answer but just then, her phone buzzed. She frowned. “My mom.” Kai nodded for her to pick up. “Hello?” Abigail answered. On the other end, her mother’s voice was unusually sweet. Too sweet. “Hello my darling, sorry I'm disturbing but it's really urgent, so Conrad Lin wants to apologize. He invited us to dinner tonight and we have very little time to get ready, please head home soon.” Abigail blinked. “Conrad?” “Yes,” her mother continued. “He even asked your Aunt Matilda to mediate. You know how awkward it’d be if we refused. He says it’s just a simple dinner. No drama.” Abigail’s jaw cl

The Luricor lobby was a full-blown circus. Reginald was still shouting like a madman, jabbing his finger toward Abigail and Kai. “They bribed him! That’s how they stole my project!” he roared. “This is slander! I worked for that deal!” People gathered, murmurs swelling. “Isn’t that the guy from the wedding scandal?” “Same one. The fiancée who got beat up and the fake gift drama...” “Now he’s crying corruption? The irony’s too much.” As the whispers grew louder, the elevator dinged. The noise dropped instantly. Thane Jackson stepped out, surrounded by assistants and two suited security guards. His expression was cold, razor-sharp, like a man used to cutting heads without lifting a blade. The moment he saw the scene, he didn’t even blink. “Call the police,” he told the secretary beside him. “Now.” Reginald’s roar died in his throat. Thane pointed straight at him. “I just got the internal report. Reginald Thompson. It was your company that conspired with Conrad Lin for an ill

Reginald had been restless all morning. Ever since the wedding fiasco, his mood had been foul, his calls unreturned, and his ego bruised. Still convinced that Kaiden was just a lucky bastard who happened to win a bet, Reginald wasn’t too worried. But there was one name that haunted him, Elara Vasquez. If she really was close to that loser, and if she truly meant the things she said that day... he could be in trouble. He had to confirm something. “Get dressed,” he told Astrid sharply, tossing her a purse. Astrid frowned. “Where are we going?” “To Luricor. I need to see Conrad. If he’s still working there, that means the cooperation is safe.” “But you’ve been calling him for hours...” “And I’m done waiting,” Reginald snapped. Soon, they arrived at the sleek glass building of Luricor, one of the Gyrix Group’s most important subsidiaries. Inside the lobby, Reginald marched up to the front desk, dragging Astrid behind him like a disheveled accessory. “We’re here to see Conrad.”

The family seated in the spacious parlor looked up as one. Some eyes narrowed. Others lit with curiosity. But as soon as they saw what Kai was wearing, the air chilled, they barely replied to Kai’s greeting. “So this is the boyfriend?” Aunt Matilda scoffed, folding her arms and looking at Kai with hatred that could burn, “He looks like he just walked out of a student hostel.” Conrad, clad in designer wear and reeking of smugness stood and gave Kai a disdainful once-over. “Not much to look at.
