On the other side, a Rolls-Royce glided into the estate, drawing envious gasps from pedestrians who marveled at the limited-edition luxury car. Inside, Elara, the wealthiest person in Dominus City and one of Kai’s most trusted allies, respectfully reported tonight’s agenda.

“Master, the banquet will be held promptly at 9 PM. All the bosses working for the Orion Group in Dominus City are eager to meet you,” she said.

Kai smirked, his lips curling with anticipation. He, too, was looking forward to the evening’s event. But before that, there was a pressing issue to take care of.

“Stop in front of the Sky Hall,” Kai’s deep voice rumbled, his eyes gleaming with a mischievous light.

If someone wanted to stir things up at the wedding, then why not give them a show they would never forget?

As Kai stepped down, he heard a familiar voice, dripping with smug satisfaction.

“Well, look what the wind dragged in.”

Kai didn’t even need to turn. The stench of arrogance said it all.

Reginald Thompson strolled out, champagne in hand, flashing his trademark fake smile. “Didn’t think you’d show your face here, Blackwood. I figured you’d be too ashamed.

“What are you doing here?” His tone was laced with amusement. “Don’t tell me you’re here to beg for scraps?”

“Or maybe...” He leaned in slightly. “You still can’t let go of Astrid? You poor thing. Showing up at her wedding like some desperate stray, hoping for what? Closure?”

Kai smirked. It seemed he didn’t need to put on a show after all. The supporting actor was already in position, and everything was falling perfectly into place.

Kai deliberately let a look of contempt flash across his face as he fixed his gaze on Reginald. "Quit your delusions. Just one more glance at you two and I’ll be sick to my stomach."

Reginald fell right into the trap!

His temper flared instantly. Kai was nothing—just a worthless, abandoned stray dog, and yet, he dared to act so boldly in front of him! Unforgivable!

Reginald’s eyes darkened as he fixed Kai with a murderous stare. "Is that so?" he sneered. "Then let me see if you’ll puke out your guts and heart."

"Guards!" He waved his hand, and in an instant, dozens of muscle-bound men appeared, their eyes cold and threatening, all focused on Kai.

"Here we go again", Kai stepped forward, radiating an aura of danger. "Reginald, if I step inside, your wedding is over!"

The confidence in those words unsettled Reginald, and at the same time, stirred a surge of blood to his head, “Big words, Blackwood.”

Kai didn’t even blink. “Then let’s see.” With that, he strode boldly toward the banquet hall.

"Keep an eye on him," Reginald hissed, his tone low and venomous. "If he dares stir trouble..." His smile twisted into something dark and malevolent, a grin so chilling it made the hairs on the bodyguards' necks stand on end.

The moment Kai stepped in, his eyes immediately landed on the massive crystal sculpture at the center, with a crowd gathered around it.Right in front of the sculpture stood Astrid, holding a champagne flute, her face radiating smug satisfaction.

Without a doubt, Kai knew she was flaunting Elara's gift.

Sure enough, the sharp sound of clinking glasses echoed, and the crowd of sycophantic guests began to cheer, "To Elara!"

"Astrid, tell us more about Elara. We’re all so intrigued by this self-made queen of business.”

"Yes, the last time I heard her name, it was as she rang the bell at Nasdaq—she truly stole the spotlight."

"Well," Astrid replied with a coy smile, "it’s mostly thanks to my husband, Reginald."

"They’re great friends. Elara holds this wedding in such high regard that she had this crystal sculpture custom-made just for us."

"May our marriage be as clear and transparent as crystal," she added, her voice laced with satisfaction.

Kai’s jaw ticked.

What a joke.

Elara was his most loyal and capable subordinate; he knew everything about her.

She would never recognize someone as hypocritical as Reginald, nor would she ever waste a gift on two adulterers celebrating their marriage.

Kai’s gaze swept over the so-called sculpture.

It was nothing more than an overpriced piece of junk, probably dug up from a gallery clearance bin. Yet here they were, basking in the false glow of stolen glory. It was all just a pathetic, self-made farce.

He almost laughed but he wasn't in the mood for attention so he found a corner to stay but whispers followed him.

A woman snickered behind her champagne glass. “Did he really think he could just walk in here dressed like… that?”

A man chuckled. “He looks like he just walked in from the streets.”

Laughter spread. Disdain painted every face.

“He looks like a waiter.”

But just as another insult was about to fly, a sharp, clear voice sliced through the murmurs.

"Enough."

The room quieted.

Kai turned to see a woman standing a few feet away. Tall. Poised. Eyes sharp as if they could peel through a man’s soul.

She wasn't looking at him...she was glaring at the group sneering in his direction.

"You're at a wedding," she said, her voice cold. "Not a back-alley gossip circle. Try to act like it."

The group shuffled awkwardly, some lowering their gazes, embarrassed.

Kai raised a brow. Interesting.

The woman finally turned her attention to him. Unlike the others, she wasn’t looking at him like he was some uninvited pest. Instead, she studied him...curious, intrigued.

She extended a hand. “Abigail Alfred.” A slow smile curved her lips. “A pleasure.”

Kai glanced at her, then at her outstretched hand. Instead of shaking it, he dipped his head slightly. “Likewise.”

Abigail arched a brow. “I know you, Astrid's ex-fiancé. But you’re quite different from what I expected.”

Kai smirked. “You expected a desperate ex still crying over his loss?”

She chuckled. “Something like that.” Her eyes gleamed with something unreadable. “You don’t seem… particularly upset about the wedding.”

Kai’s smirk deepened. “Why would I be? It’s not every day you get to watch a circus up close.”

Abigail blinked, then laughed...a real, genuine laugh. “I like you.”

Before Kai could respond, a sneering voice cut in.

“Tch. What’s an elegant sexy goddess like you doing talking to him?”

Kai sighed as he watched Astrid’s pathetic little brother approaching.

Drunk on champagne and arrogance, he swaggered over, eyes flicking between Kai and Abigail, despite the bandages still wrapped around him.

His lip curled. “I thought you had standards, Abigail.”

Abigail’s expression didn’t change, but her voice cooled. “And I thought you had manners.”

Sage scoffed. “Please. Don’t act high and mighty. You’re still single, aren’t you? And I heard you are going to be a slut soon base on the news I'm hearing, how about I fuck your little cunt first” His gaze dropped, lingering on her curves. “Or maybe you’re just picky?”

With that, his hand suddenly groped Abigail’s breasts with vulgar intent, his face twisted in a leer. He was moments from tearing her dress open when she froze, trembling. “How dare you—”

But before she could finish, Sage was sent crashing heavily to the ground, shattering the champagne tower beside him.

BAM!

Kai had struck. his gaze was icy as he stared at the broken heap of flesh-Sage.

"Apologize to her!" He twisted his wrist, coiling with tension. "Or you won’t leave here on your feet."

Gasps filled the hall.

Then...

“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?!”

Astrid Laurent’s furious voice rang out.

All heads turned.

She stormed forward, face livid, eyes blazing as they landed on Kai.

Her lips curled in rage.

"You." Her voice shook. "What the hell are you doing here?!”

Abigail's eyes lingered on Kai, scanning him with quiet suspicion. He didn’t look powerful. He didn’t dress like a man the city feared. Everything ached. Especially his head… and more strangely, his right eye. It throbbed deep in its socket, pulsing like it had a life of its own. He winced and groaned softly trying to figure out just what was wrong with him. “Kaiden?” Abigail’s voice called beside him, sharp with worry. She had been sitting by his bedside the entire time and instantly leaned closer. “You’re awake! Are you okay? Should I call the doctor?” He shook his head weakly, his voice low and cracked. “No… I’m fine.” That was a lie. His entire body radiated heat...violent, unstable heat. His veins glowed faintly under his skin, and the air around him was vibrating. She could see it. Feel it. The burn in her palm still stung. He was gone. Whatever part of him was still human… was buried under the madness. Kai could hear her...her sobs, her pleas but it was distant, like echoes inside a dark tunnel. The bloodlust, the pain, the humiliation they had caused... it surged through him, adding fuel to a fire that refused to burn out. Conrad Lin. He wasn’t drunk. He wasn’t high. He was waiting. Her family had collapsed one by one, slumped over the table or against plush leather couches, unconscious from the drug-laced wine he had poured with fake smiles and false sincerity. Abigail had taken only a few sips, but it was enough to dull her defenses. Now she was cornered. Conrad stood in front of her, tie loose, breath heavy. The grin on his face wasn’t amused anymore. It was hungry. "Tch," he clicked his tongue, looking over the passed-out bodies. "Useless lot. Wasn't after them anyway." He turned to Abigail. She tried to cra

Abigail smiled and opened her mouth to answer but just then, her phone buzzed. She frowned. “My mom.” Kai nodded for her to pick up. “Hello?” Abigail answered. On the other end, her mother’s voice was unusually sweet. Too sweet. “Hello my darling, sorry I'm disturbing but it's really urgent, so Conrad Lin wants to apologize. He invited us to dinner tonight and we have very little time to get ready, please head home soon.” Abigail blinked. “Conrad?” “Yes,” her mother continued. “He even asked your Aunt Matilda to mediate.
