Jackson decided to ignore her rude behavior, it was after all that last time he would have to with her stoic and cold attitude. He also entered Sophia's office and shut the door. She turned to him with a frown as she saw him inside.
She wondered what he was doing, was she trying to ask for more bonus, or had that display for the fat man put some ideas in his head about actually asking her out?
"You don't have to follow me like you're a lost puppy, I said I will give you a bonus for what you did out there and I will add that to your salary at the end of the month." She snapped impatiently and lifted her beautiful face to glare at him. "Now leave, I have work to do and you're interfering."
Jackson shook his head calmly and replied, "I am not here to ask for the bonus."
She frowned, wondering if the few seconds of affection display could have gotten into his head and given him stupid ideas about actually being with her.
"Then what are you doing here?" She snapped arrogantly and before Jackson could say a thing, she flung her hands at the door, "Get out of my office." She instructed coldly.
"You won't bother to hear me out?" Jackson asked, shocked at how rude she was. But then, it was not entirely new to him, he had known for as long as he worked for the company and she was as cold as ice and very impatient.
"I think I have a fair idea what it is you want to say and I can assure you that you will only get me more upset, now leave! Before I change my mind about that bonus." She snapped.
Jackson calmly dropped his resignation letter on the desk despite her angry tone. "I'm here to submit my resignation." He said in an even and calm tone.
Sophia's eyes went wide for a second before she composed herself again. She was ashamed of yelling at him just then and she was also shocked at his sudden decision to resign.
She knew him to be one of the most hard-working persons in the establishment and she had it in mind to promote him soon.
"What's going on? Why are you resigning?" She asked, her tone reasonably softer than it had been earlier.
"Can I sit?" He asked politely and she nodded at him, her eyes barely meeting his, she was ashamed of how she had just asked him to leave her office, thinking he had ideas about dating her or asking for more bonus for the favor he'd just done.
Jackson stared at her blankly and decided to give his reasons, "I'm starting a new life soon, I have to let go of my old life and that includes this job, I can't continue to work here." He said.
Sophia frowned, she could not quite get the logic behind his decision but she nodded with a sigh, she knew that her plans had just been ruined by his sudden decision to quit.
She had formed a plan just that afternoon and she needed Jackson to help her out. Sophia had hoped he would become her shield to ward off the fat man but apparently, he wouldn't be around to help her. "Okay, I guess the company has to let you go." She finally agreed.
Jackson stood up and turned to leave but he had a nagging feeling at the back of his mind, he could almost sense that Sophia needed help, it was unlike her to put up a show like that, he knew something was wrong, and it likely involved the fat man.
He stopped by the doorway, hesitant, and then turned back to her. "Are you having any problems with the man that just left?" He asked.
Sophia was surprised at how observant he was. She knew she could not tell him what issues she had but she decided that if it wouldn't hurt to open up to him, after all, he was no longer going to be a member of the company since he'd just resigned.
"I guess you could say that I have some unfinished business with him." She admitted in a low tone. She picked up a pencil from her desk and spun it absentmindedly, a nervous habit of hers.
"We've been in some financial difficulties, the company needs some strong investment or we will be falling soon, that man you met is Smith Josh, he is a rich and influential businessman who would have helped out by investing with our company I've been trying fruitlessly to make him invest with us and he's... difficult to convince." She finally admitted.
As much as he knew she was not entirely lying, he also knew she was not saying everything. "That doesn't quite explain why he made you uncomfortable earlier, I know he was not happy when he saw me arrive and you introduced me as your man," Jackson noted, Sophia did not look eager to. explain herself to someone who had been her staff just a couple of minutes ago but she sighed and indulged him anyway.
"Let's just say that he has some ideas about me and now he wants something, he's threatening me and the stability of the company to get what he wants." She admitted soberly.
Jackson looked at her, he could tell she was in a tight corner, so he decided to help.
"How much money do you need to settle the company and get rid of him?" He asked.
Sophia frowned deeply at him and scoffed, angry at the fact that he dared to ask her such a question when it was obvious he couldn't do anything about it anyway.
"What do you think you're doing? What could you possibly know about finances and how to handle such matters?" She snapped.
"You have no idea what I know, I'm not offering you professional advice on how to handle your finances, I'm asking how much you need to settle it." He repeated himself.
"Why are you asking such nonsense? What would you do about it if I told you how much?" She bit out angrily.
Jackson smiled, he could understand why Sophia did not believe him, after all, all she knew about him was that he was her worker and depended on his pay for survival. Jackson knew nothing he said would make sense to her so he took out a card from his pocket.
Sophia looked at the card strangely, she had never seen a card like that before.
Jackson threw the card on her desk and said, "If you need the money to settle your company, you can take the money from my card, it has no password."
Sophia hissed, she was upset at his actions and the fact that he'd tossed the card on her desk carelessly. She thought he was mocking her and bragging too.
"You think you can mock me just because I told you about the company? What do I need this for?" She snapped angrily and waved the card in his face. "Do you think I'm talking about some cheap amount for shopping? I'm saying this company needs a lot of money to get out of this mess."
Jackson simply nodded at the card for emphasis, "This can take care of all you need to restore the company and get out of the hold of that man." He responded calmly.
Sophia became even more enraged, she believed that Jackson was bragging and could never have such an amount of money, she needed millions of dollars to get the company out of the financial crisis.
"You're bragging, Jackson!" She snapped and then stated angrily, "In fact, you know what? If this card can truly pay off all the debt and get this company back on its feet then mark my words, I will marry you without any hesitation."
Jackson laughed at her words, he found her tantrum amusing and he could not wait to prove to her that she was wrong. He walked to her and lifted her chin with his fingers. He knew how lowly she thought of him and her status as the boss of the company made her unable to believe that he could help the company in any way. Sophia was shocked at his actions, he knew him only as a lowly worker, a loser, and a coward, how could he dare to speak nonsense and then touch her? What was he up to and when did he grow the balls to address her so casually? With a cocky smile, he said, "I accept your terms, you have got yourself a deal." He said. "You can go ahead and transfer the money you need." "Put your hands off me, you have no idea what you're talking about, get out of my office, Jackson." She snapped. "Are you going back on your words so soon?" He asked, arching his brows. Sophia bared her teeth at him and slammed her fist on the table, angry at what he'd just said. "I do
Jackson looked at Sophia, his smirk still intact, he could see her shocked expression and he was amused because she was dumbfounded. "So, when do we go to register for our marriage? Do you have any location in mind? Color?" He asked with an amused smile. Sophia was not aware of all he said, she was so shocked that her mind wandered far from the present. How could Jackson possibly have so much money and also own such an exclusive card? Who was he? Why did he want to give her so much money? She wondered silently. Jackson waved a hand at her face and finally snapped her out of her reverie. Sophia snapped out of it with a jerk and looked at him curiously. "I'm asking when you would love our wedding to be held, remember what you promised earlier." He asked with a cocky smile. Sophia blushed, she didn't know what to say in response. She looked down at her desk and almost admitted that she was only joking because she could not believe that he had such an amount of mone
Jackson finally agreed to her offer to become a part of her company. "This technically makes me the owner of the company, you know that right? And I know that this company is your treasure, you value it." He said. Sophia nodded and replied without hesitation, "The treasure would have been ruined if not for your help, I know it's best this way." She replied. Jackson smiled at her, he was just getting to see her fun side, Sophia looked even more beautiful when she wasn't wearing the cold face that everyone knew her for. "I still want you to oversee the company, don't worry, I won't mess up the management or try to take charge, I know you've been handling the company well, this is just on paper, no one has to know about it." He said. Sophia thought for a few seconds and then nodded, "I trust you, Jackson." She replied with a soft smile. No matter how long she worried or the connections she had, she knew she could not have single-handedly settled the crisis as quickly as Ja
At the police station, Ella sat closely with Alexander by a little desk, eating from a tray of sliced fruits. Many officers surrounded them, cheering them on and acting like sycophants. "Don't worry, master, we will be sure that he regrets the day he ever dared to offend you, I'm sure he'll be begging and crying for mercy once we're done." The cop said with a wide smile. "I trust you'll teach that loser a lesson of his life," Ella replied with a wicked smile. "He'll grovel and beg for mercy and then we'll see who the real badass is." Alexander retorted with a smile. He wanted to keep impressing Ella and he wanted the beautiful girl to compensate him for his loss while he thoroughly humiliated Jackson too. At this time, the gates of the station opened and the officer they'd sent drove in with Jackson in the backseat. The car opened and Jackson stepped out with his hands before him, handcuffed. Ella smiled at the sight and Alexander was very pleased that finally, he'd had
In a matter of minutes, after that call was made, hundreds of soldiers were being assembled at the base, and shortly after, a fleet of armored vehicles drove out of the base, heading to the police station. In one of the cars, an older man in a general's attire looked at his junior officer and said that he was surprised at the alarm. "It has been a very long time since the god King left us, no one has ever checked his file." He said and thought for a second, "I'm wondering who it is and what they want with that information." Even though he knew that the information on the file had been altered to protect the god king's true identity, he was one of the most important men in the country and he could not be toyed with. "Drive faster, we must quickly get to the god King." The general commanded the driver. Meanwhile, at the station, two ruthless police officers were with Jackson in the interrogation room. Ella walked in with a smile and looked at him without saying a word, her face
The chief frowned, “The army?” Jackson thought out loud, “Yes, sir. and it looks like they mean business,” the young officer saysJackson got up and followed the officer to the front door. As he stepped outside, he felt a chill run down his spine. Jackson saw dozens of armed soldiers, wearing black uniforms and helmets, pointing their guns at the station. They had parked several armored vehicles and tanks around the building, blocking any escape routes. The chief felt a wave of fear and confusion. And Jackson wondered if this was some kind of coup or martial law. He looked around, hoping to see a familiar face or a sign of explanation. Jackson saw no one he knew, only hostile and menacing eyes.Pamela walked into the station dressed in all-black, leather high-heeled boots, a leather jacket, and black pants and complemented it with dark sunglasses. She walked like she could kill a hundred men with one look. She ignored the officers and the police chief who made way for her by stepping
Sophia glanced at her phone for the third time in the last five minutes. She was getting anxious. Jackson had not answered any of her calls or texts since when he was arrested by the police she knew he was innocent, but she also knew that the justice system in this country was anything but fair, the Mills family held the justice system in the state by the balls, She had to find a way to get him out of there, before it was too late.Sophia decided to call Paul Mitch, He was a sleazy man and second in head only to his mother in Mitch’s family and he had a reputation for being a dirt pig. He had always made advances on her since she was promised to him, but she had always rejected him, she hated him, but she was desperate. Maybe he could help her get Jackson released from police custody, or at least find out where he was being held. She dialed his number and waited for him to pick up."Hello, Sophia. What a pleasant surprise," Paul said in a smug voice."Hi, Paul. I need your help wit
Sophia felt a wave of dizziness as she stood up from the table. She had just finished dinner with Paul, But something was wrong. She felt lightheaded and nauseous as if she had drunk too much. But she had only had one glass of wine, and she was usually good at holding her liquor. She wondered if the food had been bad, or if she had caught a bug.She looked at Paul, who was smiling at her. He took her hand and led her to the exit. He paid the bill and thanked the waiter. He seemed oblivious to her discomfort."Did you enjoy the dinner?" he asked."Yes, it was lovely. Thank you," Sophia said, trying to sound polite."I'm glad. You're very welcome. You know, you're even more beautiful tonight," he said, leaning closer to her.Sophia felt his breath on her ear and shivered. She didn't like the way Paul was touching her. Neither did she didn't like the way he was looking at her. She felt a surge of fear and regret. wishing she had never agreed to go out with him. Sophia wished she had s
