Chapter four

"This is madness!" Ella screamed foolishly as she watched the flames engulf the boxes. She was furious and she glared at Pamela threateningly.

"You have no idea what you've just done! You don't know who you are__"

Pamela sneered at her, "Last time I checked, you aren't anyone significant." She snapped and then waved her aside like she didn't matter.

"He isn't in my class! You can have him for all I care, I have a better man by my side."Ella retorted with a glare. Even as she spoke, she knew all too well that Pamela was way above her league, and the bags she'd just burnt to spite her could very well change her entire wardrobe.

"I think that's ironic, you are not in his league." Pamela replied offhandedly, she swayed to Jackson, "Come on, let us go." She said and invited him to the car. Jackson followed without a second glance at Ella and they drove off speedily.

As the duo drove off, Ella stomped and cursed, embarrassed at the entire scene. She wondered how Jackson could suddenly afford such a car and know such a beautiful lady.

Ella calmed down and thought about it clearly, then she decided that Jackson must have paid for the whole show and hired the girl just to make a statement and get back to her for divorcing him.

For many years that she'd been married to him, she'd never even met him with such rich people before nor did she know of any connections he had in the city. She could not believe that such a car worth over 10 million dollars could belong to him or anyone he knew for that matter. She regarded Jackson as a complete nobody and so she knew there was something fishy about what had just happened.

"Jackson can not afford those designers," she said wistfully, thinking out loud. Then she looked at Alexander with a knowing smile. "I know he paid that girl to show up here and make a show, he's a nobody and can not afford such connections or such a car." She stated.

Alexander nodded eagerly, then he turned to look at the ruined state of his car. "And that bitch ruined my car! She could not hit the brakes when she got here and now she has destroyed it, that's my new ride!" He snapped angrily.

"Jackson could never afford such luxury, he's lying to us just to save face," Ella added scornfully.

Alexander nodded and frowned at the ruins of his car, "He must pay for what he's done to my ride." He insisted.

"It's perfect, that's what we'll use to make him pay for this embarrassment," Ella suggested and Alexander raised a brow at her.

"I need to disgrace him for trying to humiliate us in public, I need to show him that his silly tricks can not work on me." He stated firmly and decided she would make sure he groveled and begged Alexander for ruining his ride.

"I'll call the police and report your car, he'll have to pay compensation and then we'll see if he can truly afford all that he claimed," Ella replied. Alexander smiled and nodded at the plan, "Perfect." He said.

Jackson had made up his mind to resign from his job. He arrived at his company, ready to turn in his resignation letter and call it quits. Jackson could not keep up with the job anymore, he had more important things to do. With his white envelope in hand and mind made up, he strode into the elevator.

As he walked briskly into the office lobby, he saw his boss, a lady named Sophia. She was in an intense conversation and from all indications she was not happy to be involved in it.

As she heard his steps, Sophia turned to him and her eyes lit up immediately she saw him, she ran into his arms, she smiled at him fondly and turned to the fat man with an apologetic smile.

"I'm so sorry we'll have to cut our conversation short, my boyfriend is here and we have a date soon." She said, The fat man glared at them, Sophia acted unaffected and held Jackson's hands. "He's here to pick me up, maybe we can have this talk some other time," Sophia explained.

Jackson was confused at the display. He was neither Sophia's boyfriend nor was she even friendly enough with him to be considered an acquaintance, she was cold and domineering as a boss and she barely spoke to him except bark instructions.

Sophia was the typical boss lady; arrogant, cold, unfriendly, and with tolerance for anyone, especially men. She did not have the time to play nice with any of the workers and Jackson had no relationship with her beyond that of an employee with an employer.

But from the scene unfolding, he knew that Sophia needed the ploy to get rid of the fat man so he smartly played along, circling her with his arms and smiling down at her, "We have to go now, darling, I made the booking for us this afternoon, say goodbye to your guest." He said.

The fat man sneered at Jackson, he suspected that he was not who Sophia claimed she was. He did not believe that Sophia could even have a boyfriend because of her cold and bossy nature. But he knew he couldn't make a fool of himself and began to argue that, so he simply walked away and decided to carry out his plans another day.

"Is that so?" He asked sarcastically and Jackson nodded firmly, "I'm afraid it is, we have our reservations already and you'll have to postpone this meeting, my apologies." He replied to the fat man boldly and smiled down at Sophia again.

"Very well, I'll be back." The fat man said and glared intensely at them as he left the office lobby.

Beside him, Jackson could hear Sophia's sigh of relief as the fat man walked out of the office.

She remained in his hold for a few more seconds just to be sure that the man was completely out of sight and then she quickly regained her composure and flinched away from his hold, her face morphed into its usual cold expression.

"I didn't know you were so smart," she said, her tone cold and stoic.

"I guessed you were in trouble and I realized I had to play along." He agreed.

"I wasn't in any trouble, do not flatter yourself." she snapped and turned to glare at him menacingly.

Jackson could tell that she was lying and the fat man was holding something against her. But she did not look like she wanted to discuss anything with him so he let it slide.

"But you've done well, I'll make sure to include a little bonus in your salary." She said with an arrogant wave of her hands and then she walked out of the lobby into her office.

Jackson frowned at her arrogance, he had just helped her, and she was treating him like he didn't exist. He followed her into the office, ready to turn in his resignation letter.
