03: His Ancestral Pendant!

Seraphina's words sent daggers through Adam's heart.

She hated him so much that she wished him death.

"I prepared a divorce agreement a month ago. Quickly sign it!" Seraphina threw a folder at him.

Adam stared down at it in shock. While he was enduring, trying to please her, she'd already planned a way to get rid of him!

"What're you being slow for, sign the damn thing already!" Lori lashed out.

Adam cast another look at Seraphina, the last shred of love he had for her fading in his eyes. "Are you sure about this?"

"I've never been so sure."

Despite the pain in his heart, he picked up the pen and signed the divorce document.

"From now on, I no longer have anything to do with such a useless person!" Seraphina beamed happily, twirling to share a passionate kiss with Roberto.

Adam clenched his teeth, his heart slamming as he watched them. He didn't realize when he crushed the pen in his hands to bits.

"I request for the papers to the Hundred Herb Mall before I leave."

"Really?" Lori smirked.

She had signalled a helper to quickly retrieve the folder and hide it. "That shop is worth merely a few hundred dollars. Leave that as repayment for our hospitality for the past 5 years."

Adam laughed sarcastically. This woman actually dared to cheat him? After all what she'd done?

The helper returned with panic in her eyes. "Madam, I searched everywhere, but the documents are missing!"

"What is missing?" Adam asked with a sinister smile. "You mean this?" he flashed a blue folder in the air.

"Give that back!" Lori lunged forward to snatch it but Adam pushed her way, a ferocious look in his eyes.

This was the last thing he had of his parents. Over his dead body would any person snatch it again!

"You!" Lori's face reddened in anger. She couldn't bear losing such a profitable business to him.

"What is it, ex mother-in-law? Do you perhaps think this is yours?"

"It's fine, Mother." Seraphina spoke up. "The shop is totally useless anyway. No matter how much he tries, that shop will never be profitable!"

"Mark your words, Seraphina. A day is coming when you will take it back!" Adam shot her a cold look.

Lori couldn't still bear to let go. "Then you have to repay everything you gotten from this family, down to every cent!"

"How much is it? I'll pay it!" Adam replied coldly. It was best he settled his debts once and for all. That way, in the future he wouldn't hold back on his revenge.

Before he could speak, six muscular men arrived at the door, bowing to Roberto. "We're here, Boss. Please give your orders."

"Drag that man out, and make sure he pays back every penny he owes my mother-in-law." Roberto said lazily.

"That's right!" Lori was more than elated.

Roberto just called her mother-in-law. Wasn't this a dream come true? She reached over and snatched the folder from him.

"Let go of me!" Adam struggled against the guards. But his weak arms were incomparable to their muscular strength.

Gritting his teeth, he sent an icy glare to Roberto. How he wished he had the powers to beat this shameless man to pulp!

Adam was dragged to the sitting room and forced to his knees.

The whole family had arrived and were looking entertained.

"Adam Carson again? There's no day you wouldn't get into a scruple with someone. Why don't you just go drown yourself?" Nate shook his head in disgust.

"Tsk, tsk. I've never seen someone looking so pitiful." Debra laughed at his weak struggle.

"Now, listen." Lori hovered over Adam, waving the folder. "Before I hand over this piece of trash, you have to pay back all what you are owing!"

"The meals you and your sister had for the past 5 years, shelter, clothing's, transport and the surgery fees when Amelia fell sick last year. Excluding the 3 years profits, your debt is amounting to $20 thousand." She sneered. "You actually agreed to refund it all, so don't blame me for forcing you!"

Adam felt his scalp itch. That was equivalent to 4 month profit from his shop!

Lori was willing to hand over the deed, but after snatching all the capital.

"You can't do that!" He hissed in anger. "Do you call those shabby food you gave meals? Most times, I throw those pieces of junk away and starve! What about the amount of chores I did willingly for the past 5 years, you have to pay for that!"

Her face turned purple from anger, but Adam quickly added. "I'll only pay you half of the money, so hand over my document right now!"

A conflicting expression showed on Lori's face before she nodded, quickly retrieving a cheque book. "Here, sign an advance cheque of $10 thousand before I hand it over."

"Mother! You can't just let him off so easily!" Debra and Emily complained.

"I can't keep holding onto those useless shops forever." Lori shook her head. "Don't worry, we now have a wealthy son-in-law, we definitely wouldn't suffer."

Adam quickly signed the cheque. This was way better than dragging the matter and wasting time in this stupid place.

He got up immediately the guards let him go. "Listen, you Hemsworths! You're going to pay for everything you did to me!"

"Pay?" Carmen burst out laughing. "How does a nice of trash like you intend to make us pay?"

"He's currently in misery cause my sister has chosen someone better." Debra laughed. "Listen, Adam. You're never going to amount to anything in this life! You will always remain a colossal failure!"

"I promise you. Down to every humiliation I suffered, I'll make sure you suffer 10-fold!" Adam swore. "By then, I'll remind you of your statements today."

"We don't care, so get the hell out!" Lori yelled, pushing him violently.

Adam turned around to leave, but before he could get to the door, a guard pulled him back.

"He can't leave yet, Mother. He still has to kowtow to me." Roberto arrived with Seraphina in his arms.

Lori laughed. "Of course, you should pay obeisance to Mr Walters for sparing your life!" She grabbed his collar, pushing him towards Robert.

"Kneel!" the guards grabbed his shoulders, forcing him down.

"Wait a moment! I can kneel on my own." Adam smiled out of the blue.

"Take this instead!" He suddenly charged forward, sending a punch across Roberto's face.

Everywhere went silent for a second.

"Wastrel!" Lori was the first to react.

Roberto's eyes turned red. "Break his bones!"

Adam sprinted for the door, but he wasn't fast enough. One of the guards caught up with him, knocking him down with a heavy blow.

With kicks and punches raining from all sides, Adam braced himself. He fought back fiercely, managing to get back on his feet.

One of the guards grabbed his shoulder and twisted, dislocating the bone. The other man repeatedly rammed his stomach with punches.

"Bastards!" Adam spat out a mouthful of blood which spilled all over his shirt.

"Why's he still standing?" Lori screamed. "Make him beg for his life!"

Before the guards could attack him again, Adam screamed out in agony.

A very hot sensation shot from his heart to all parts of his body.

Everyone paused to stare at his chest, disbelief in their eyes. Blood had spilled on his ancestral pendant as it assumed a bright red magical glow.

"What's happening?" Adam blinked in shock.

A surge of energy was circulating all through his veins, stregthing his arms and sending his heart racing.

"Drag him out!" Seraphina ordered.

As the guards were about to touch him, Adam flung them across the room with so much force that everyone gasped.

The sounds of bones crushing brought everyone back to reality.

What just happened?

Adam smirked at their bewildered faces. Seems his ancestral pendant had the ability to give him supernatural strength.

"Who wants to go next?" Adam asked.

That same moment, the sound of several footsteps at the door alerted him.

"Don't allow him to escape!" Roberto shouted.

Avoiding their grips, Adam dashed out of the house, down the stairs to the road.

His heart rate increased by a million and his vision went blurry.

Behind, the men were still chasing after him. Adam miscalculated his steps, staggering to a stop with a sharp pain in his temples.

"What's going on?" He gasped.

Before he could react, a truck zoomed up the road, smashing straight and flinging his body some metres away.

"Good riddance!" Robert's gaze was lifeless at the sight of the bloody accident.
